  1. Re: Killer Shrike: Armor You rock! Thank you so very much
  2. Re: Special Materials Sounds like you're gearing this more towards a magic system. But then again, I'm not the best at describing things...so here goes a (hopefully) clearer explanation. I'm thinking more along the lines of adding modifiers to a weapon (for example) based on the materials that it was constructed from. i.e. a Broad Sword has X properties, but a Broad Sword made from Mithril has X and Y properties. I'm just wondering how others handle developing the Y properties.
  3. Hiya KS, I was looking over your armor system and I love the concept. I was wondering what adjustments I would need to make in order to set it up as sectional?
  4. Hello all, How do you handle making equipment out of special materials? Do you just arbitrarily add in modifiers or construct ads/lims to effect the points value of the equipment? My preference is to just add additional lims and such to bring the items into "balanced" point range. The reason for this is I'm still debating on whether or not I want prices to be roughly based on the Real/Active cost of the item. But what are your opinions?
  5. Re: The Ugdul ROFL! Yeah, I really need to get up to speed on at least naming them.
  6. Re: The Ugdul Thanks. The number references are for the races/cultures I have yet to define (or at least name).
  7. Re: [Magic System] Runeforging Re-doing the Divine Magic thing is actually what I'm working on as well. For some reason it has always seemed that "Miracles" should have a more organic feel to them, like special abilities rather than rote spells.
  8. Re: [Magic System] Runeforging ROFL! Perfect! But I also agree with you on the Magic System thing. Killer Shrikes stuff is far beyond what I am currently capable of doing, so it's like trying to reverse engineer a nuclear reactor with a shovel.
  9. Re: [Magic System] Runeforging Old Beatles tune. Maxwell's Silver Hammer...I must be old...
  10. Re: [Magic System] Runeforging His hammer isn't silver by any chance? Sorry, couldn't pass it up. But the character really does bring to light exactly what I was thinking on this one. Me likey the style.
  11. Re: The Ugdul Thanks. Now for the Dovani. Some of this is shamelessly taken from Tolkien
  12. Re: World creation help (Magic system question) Cool stuff. I'm basically going this route myself. I'm thinking External Magic is the traditional magic that most people think of (i.e. pointy hats and long beards, musty tomes, etc.), I'm thinking this will be an MP. Divine magic will be a bit more restrictive and utilize an EP based on the gods sphere of influence. Internal magic will be much more restricted and be based on a VP with 1pt. familiarities indicating the learning of various meditations.
  13. Re: [Magic System] Runeforging Hiya Killer, Sorry. I still haven't read this one. I'm pouring over your others and trying to "visualize" them. Being knew to all this, I still have a hard time picturing how these systems in some cases. You've actually overloaded me with information and diversity Once I've got a handle on this stuff I'll be more than happy to lend opinions. But, I love the concept and really fits in with a "traditional" dwarf style of magic. I definitely have a group of divine casters that would fit the bill nicely for this, once I get a handle on how these things work.
  14. Hello all, Busily working on the beginnings of my campaign. I'm starting on a very small scale in a medium-sized town in a very small country that is fairly isolated from the rest of the world. The Ugdul are the primary race in this land (Mak-Ugdul), with several small populations of humans (Dovani, Badreen and Ichoko)and a smal population of elves (Penztah). Here is the write-up for the Ugdul. Let me know what you think.
  15. Re: "Fantasy HERO general comments & ?" pt.1 oooooh, I like those idea's.
  16. Re: World creation help (Magic system question) I have a few questions on using MP's for a magic system: Do you make the slots Ultra, Flexible or Normal? I'm leaning towards Ultra How do you handle players increasing the MP? Do you allow players to create their own spells? If yes, what (if any) restrictions or in game procedures to have them go through?
  17. Re: "Fantasy HERO general comments & ?" pt.1 This is actually a very cool idea as well and one I may have to pursue.
  18. Re: "Fantasy HERO general comments & ?" pt.1 Wow! This is all great stuff, folks. Thanks! I think I'm going to go with a combination of what Ndreare and i3ullseye suggested. I just need to hammer it out. The_Saint: Yeah, I can't escape the great magic system in Rolemaster. It really just "makes sense" to me and really does a great job of classifying magic-users.
  19. Hello all, First let me thank all of you who have helped me with my questions, in particular Killer Shrike. I've found this forum to be very friendly and incredibly helpfull. Ok, do you all feel buttered up yet? Well, I've finely "seen the light" as it were, for utilizing MPP's for spell-casters and will be adjusting my magic system appropriately. This will, hopefully, place spell-casters a bit more on par with the other less-enchanted characters. Now in my game world, the God of Magic is a rather nasty individual with a real bad attitude but is a joy if you're into lies, deceipt and crushing your victims emotionally and spiritually. He's also fond of the "power corupts" philosophy. Thus, any magic that is not drawn from a deity or spirit tends to be avoided by mortals. However, this wasn't always the case and much earlier in the worlds history there were many different schools of magic. Taking a cue from my most hallowed days with Rolemaster, I have three separate "Types" of Magic: External, Internal and Spiritual, I'm debating on a fourth (Elemental) but haven't quite decided. Within these types, the practitioners have developed their own styles, or schools (This is where I shamelessly rip-off all of Killer Shrikes wonderful work). The External "type" of magic is the corrupted one, and this is what most of your traditional Mages utilize. Now the Curse that is placed on External Magic is a slow and steady corruption of mind and body, until the Mage is nothing more than a gibbering flesh-like mass that howls in agony with the slaughter of others bringing the beast only a moments relief from its torment. Ok, so there's no cure for this condition...or is there? Legends tell of a select few who have been able to stop the Curse and gain great power and others who have completely rid themselves of it...these are, of course, merely rumors created by the God to give people hope in being able to best the Curse , thus drawing in more aspirants. Now here's my quandry. I would like to have a very specific table of progression laid out for how long it takes for this transformation to take place based on the amount of External Magic the character utilizes and build a limitation that is required for all spells created in this "Type". This serves as a way to make the spells cheaper and thus "more powerful" which will feed the players own natural tendency to "get power". The roadblock I'm hitting is how to actually build this in the HERO system without taking away points from the character or, even worse, giving him/her extra points. I'm not familiar at all with how Transform works in practice and from what I've read, it really doesn't fit the bill. So any help you can lend on this would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Re: How much of a Limitation...? Even better! Saved me some points.
  21. Re: How much of a Limitation...? Oh sweet! Thanks Southern Cross
  22. Re: How much of a Limitation...? So I'd have to do this as a linked power?
  23. Re: How much of a Limitation...? Ok so here's some more info: He has a normal PD: 14 and ED: 10 He has a suit of body armor rPD: 8 and rED: 8 and here is the EC I'm wanting to include. I'm kinda fuzzy on the cost for this and I don't have Hero Designer (yet, and at $50 it'll be awhile), so any help would be appreciated. EC: Bio-Engineered Defenses (No Conscious Control: Only Activates when character at 50% Body, Reduced Endurance: 0, Always On, Persistent) 10 pts 2 Levels of density Increase 15 pts 5 PD/5 ED Armor 10 pts Life Support: Self-Contained Breathing 10 pts Life Support: All Terrestrial diseases and biowarfare agents 10 pts Life Support: All Terrestrial poisons and chemical warfare agents
  24. Re: How much of a Limitation...? Well, his "normal" defenses aren't quite worked out, but essentially what happens is that he is a bio-engineered person with an over-active genetic defense system. Once he's been severly wounded his body forms a hard shell over his epidermis. He has no concious control over it (in fact, he doesn't know about it as of yet), so I guess going with the latter suggestion may be the best form of action. Aside from that "ability", he is a skilled martial artist brick, more along the lines of Captain America than Bruce Lee.
  25. Hello all, Working on a character concept and I have an EC that I want only to be able to use when the character has reached 50% of his BODY. It's a defensive EC with Density Increase and Armor, but only activates when he is really hurt. Is this a viable Lim and if so, how much would think it would be worth?
