  1. Re: Stargate Hero

My bad. Didn't see Univ. Trans. there. Given Jackson's language skills, as a GM I'd allow it. However, I'd probably add the limitations Spoken or Written Languages Only (-1/4) and some form of Requires Skill Roll (Linguistics) for unfamiliar languages (-1/4), even though UT already had a skill roll.

Looks good, except you left off the languages. I forgot how many he spoke, but it was somewhere in the mid teens. Also, is this Jackson in the early series? If so, I'd probably take the Goa'uld KS skills down to 8- familiarities.

And if you're thinking about a web site, I'd be happy to give you a section over at starherofandom.

Small update today: updated the Ranger Package Deal, and included an HDP file (distributes that professional package deal the same as the others). Fixed the L'lort zip file; apparently the file was corrupt.

  4. I don't have SH with me (at the office), and I need to know what the formula was for converting movement into kph. All I remember is its not exactly a straight SPD*MOVE*TIME sort of thing (there was a multiplier I'm missing). If anyone has SH or TUV handly, I'd appreciate the formula.

    Thanks

I don't know if you'd have to stat the small blocks. That would be almost like having to stat a human cell, or any other 'unit' in a hive-mind creature. I'd just build the various bugs, giving them the powers and vulnerabilities you listed. Then, just give every bug a Duplication power with the lims 'must have at least 2 building blocks' and 'duplicate is only as good (def) as raw materials.' Also, don't forget that the nanite replicators are also bullet proof (def. a good example of the desolid, only vs. PD attacks power).

  6. Re: What now?

Another thought I had this afternoon, that would translate into published works well, is Romeo & Juliet in Space. Boy and Girl from opposing Houses/Governments/Races/Etc elope, heading off into space in a ship (perhaps they stole it). Picking up some friends/strangers along the way, they are pursued by various factions/forces of their parents in order to get them back. The rest of the goings on in the galaxy will fall into place as the story progresses.

  7. Re: Stargate Hero

Cheers for that, I saw that there had been some discussion primarily about Zat's as they are a bit tricky, the staff weapons seem quite basic as an EB.

My knowledge doesn't spread to that level yet, it will be a while before I tackle that I'm sure :)

Don't worry about it. Like others have mentioned, do it how you want, and the rest will fall into place. Playing will actually help flesh out your ideas too. My other recommendation is to not sweat the mechanics. If you know a Zat is supposed to kill you on the second shot, that's all you or players need to know. Don't worry about how to build it - that comes later as you get more obsessed with Hero :)

  8. Re: Stargate Hero

I was looking at the real world weapons used in the series and they are mostly detailed in the Dark Champions book' date=' I was going to make a HD prefab for those and then build on that with Goa'uld & Alien tech later, would that be any use to you at all?[/quote']

Check the Other Genres board, maybe the main Hero discussion board too. I did some writeups of SG & Goa'uld weapons. My SG GM and I are at slightly different ends on the Zat Gun, but since we have not been shot by one yet, I don't know how he built it (he's keeping it a surprise). There are also some other contributions/ideas on builds. Pick which one you like best :)

  9. Re: Stargate Hero

I'd give him at least 50 exp. points, maybe more. His skills need to be way above starting levels. He should probably also have Luck.

We started a 3 player SG game. Once we get the kinks worked out, I'm going to put up an equipment page over at starherofandom.

  10. Re: What now?

I have to agree with Lord Liaden's recommendation, although Jhamin's idea sounds really cool. (If you ever get something 'formal' written up, let me know.) While Alien Wars is a very specific setting (time period wise), TE offers enough variety that you could do a lot.

  11. Starherofandom.com isp change

Just an FYI in case anyone has been trying to look over the last 24 hours. I had to do an unscheduled ISP change yesterday because my DSL line crashed again. The move was going to happen this weekend, but my old DSL provider couldn't get their wheels moving fast enough so I did the change yesterday afternoon. DNS servers should be updating soon. Sorry for the lack of notice.

  12. Re: Autonomous weapons

If you wanted a more simple approach, make the weapons Indirect, with maybe some OCV skill levels to represent 'intelligent.'

"...before his force-lance automatically shoots them down with effectors." could be a missile deflect slot in the force-lance's multipower.

  13. Re: Growing love for Star Hero and Sci-Fi games.

I don't think sci-fi is much diffferent than any other genre when it comes to getting players interested... Its all about having a good story, a fun 'universe' to play in, and a good GM. I think one of the things that makes fantasy more popular than most other genres (from an rpg point of view) is magic. I've found that a lot of players want to be some sort of magic user in a fantasy setting. In sci-fi, I'm always asked if they can play a psi character.
