  1. Re: Adventure with Pre-Gens

I recommend "Infectious Enthusiasm"' date=' from [i']Digital Hero[/i] #9. It's a complete adventure specifically designed and playtested as a convention game for beginners to Champions, with a good balance of combat and non-combat scenarios. It has five-member teams of starting-level superheroes and supervillains already fully statted out and illustrated, as well as three color maps.

I designed the adventure as way to introduce new people to Hero at sponsored events. The plot is pretty darn simple...that was the plan. In fact initially my plan was to simply post it on the boards in the Legion area then the esteemed DH editor intercepted it and told me to clean it up so he could add it to the zine. I spent a month cleaning it up then two gentlemen did the incredibly fantastic artwork to pull it all together. I have used it for several demos and it works great. ;)

  2. Re: Philosophical: Definition Of A Mechanic

Every Power has a header in the book like this:

    Type:

    Duration:

    Target:

    Range:

    Costs END:

    Cost:

The opening paragraph describes in simple terms the Powers most basic function.

Energy Blast, for example, says: "A character with Energy Blast can attack at Range, doing Normal Damage."

While it could be argued to add in the type of Defense, if you look up Normal Damage you discover it is a Mechanic describing damage going against PD or ED.

Going through the book, the first sentence, occasionally first two sentences, describe exactly what you are talking about.

So, erm, you got what you wanted! Ain't it cool.

Something I think should be removed from the first paragraph is Example SFX and that should be moved to a separate section altogether. Say a minor header at the end of each Power Description called "Example Special Effects"

Perfect idea. Really like that...I would give you rep...but I already have... ;)

  3. Re: Philosophical: Definition Of A Mechanic

I agree with Doc and Jedi Master. There is some core function that is present in most powers that defines them. Yes, advantages and limitations can change the bells and whistles but the core is present.

With EB I would almost define it as a ranged attack that does not combine with a stat. In fact in my latest campaign I have renamed it Normal Attack - Ranged and Normal Attack - Hand-To-Hand to match the definitions for Killing Attack.

    Essentially...ditto. ;)

  4. Re: Healing

    IMHO no

healing and regen where 2 different powers that only crossed over where body was concerned

they should still be seperate powers not a kludged special rule to make it work

with the added text that went in to making healing do regen also

you could have had regen as it'e own power in 1/2 the space

I agree with Beast. I use the old rules for 4th ed for Regeneration. I think they work out a lot cleaner.

  5. Re: What Makes a Good Non-Human Fantasy Race?

When I designed my Star Hero campaign I created a set of very unique races and I intentionally had them fill a particular campaign need. In the FH campaign I am working on now I am using a lot of races because I wanted a very diverse feel. I also wanted lots of opportunities for players to experiment. Different motivation entirely. ;)

  6. Re: The Ol' Cross-Genre Bait-and-Switch

I did exactly this at a con. I told the players to make PC before the con. the PC would be frozen then awake in a post holocaust world...think Morrow Project. ;) In the first session they meet a mad scientist and start getting attacked by a paramilitary force. They activate a device that shoots them through time and space. One PC has a device that can shoot them again once some condition is met. Think Sliders, Time Bandits, or Dr Who.

The PC were surprised but rolled with it. One key thing I did was to give the PC a chance to do a rewrite. I also gave them an allocation of free disads points to replace existing slot. With the time period constantly changing hunted and such don't really work. ;) Since the time period was constantly changing it was less of a hardship. In fact if the PC died or new players started they had to play PC from the target location. Thus now the group consists of a football star, a western scout, a victorian actress, and a 6th century monk...tons of fun! Since I ONLY run it at cons it works fine.

My players nicknamed it Time Traveler DI and it stuck. ;)

  7. Re: Super Creator (how to)

As is typical with Hero there are a lot of ways to do everything. In my Reliance Reforged Champions campaign there was a character called Smith who could produce an exact duplicate of anything he touched. We built it with a VPP. For vehicle you buy summon, for powers you buy the power, etc. It worked really well. You can get a copy of the character by going to the site...see the link in my sig.

  8. Re: D&D 4th

I was a playtester for 4e and our whole group was very negative of the changes they made. Obviously, they wouldn't let our voice be heard before the game was released, but it's not D&D. It probably will be a fun RPG, but it is D&D no more.

The biggest thing is that every character plays the same and the game has a very very very bad healing mechanic.

Due to the NDA I can't really can't communicate my and my groups disgust with the new "Dungeons and Dragons".

Hi Gunstar: Can you talk openly after the release? If so I would really like to hear your opinions.

  9. Re: Steve Reviews INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

The club scene in ToD was a great piece. The best in that film and it beat out many from Raiders.

I'm taking the wife on our first date since September. So it will be good no matter what.

OMG...too funny. I am taking my wife on a date to see it too and we have not had a date in a long time...two young kids... ;)

  10. Re: Shard

I had a character in a game I ran that was named Shard. He was a mild mannered glass repairman. After a while he started selling glass repair insurance. His picture looked a LOT like this one. He had a RKA with high stun mod and low dice (1d6 with +5 stun mod or something like that), teleport, force field, and missile deflection. Fun character! :)

  11. Re: Masterful Ambush

An easy way to do it is by taking advantage of the Change Environment rules ability to penalize opponents. It can get a tad expensive, but its definitely effective. Both of these characters have CE based super skills representing their special skills at combat that could serve as an example:

NICE! I change my vote. :D

  12. Re: Masterful Ambush

I like your method actually. The only change is minor...maybe put a limitation that the effect is driven by the amount the tactics roll is made by. For example if you make the roll everyone gets 1 level, if you make it by 2 they get 2 levels. You get the idea...nice...
