  1. In the 5E Star HERO book (one of my favoritest books, I wish I hadn't sold it, lo those many years ago), it listed the attack needed to destroy a planet as something like RKA 51D6, if I remember correctly. In 6E Star HERO, it goes with a 10D6 RKA, using Megascale Area to apply that evenly across the whole planet. Why the change? I rather liked the bigger number, as it meant a planet-busting attack wrecked everything in its path, Death Star- or Dragon Ball-style. Believe it or not, I actually like a fair bit of Dragon Ball, and Hero seems to me like it'll be the only system, except maybe BESM 3rd, that will actually run the setting. So I was curious, and thought I would ask you HERO gurus.
  2. Re: Gaming in the Magic: The Gathering setting Well, yeah, they're definitely powerful — at the highest levels, you are summoning huge elemental forces and godlike beings to do battle for you. But lots of creatures in the various worlds of Magic have innate magical power, and I'm sure Planeswalkers are no different. Maybe a starting Planeswalker can still call forth energy from the various planes and elemental forces, but not that much energy. So no summoning huge dragons and angels and stuff to fight for you at "level 1", basically. Sure! And this is flavor, mostly, the land stuff. The elemental energies embodied in swamps reek with rot and death, while those of forest are verdant, full of life and growth.
  3. Re: Gaming in the Magic: The Gathering setting I like that idea, and it's something along the lines of what I was thinking, as well. Many creatures, or perhaps all of them, are formed of the elemental mana energies that compose the world. Magical beings, and especially something like Planeswalkers, draw upon the mana in various forms, and for various things. Perhaps along with END Reserves, there are things like VPPs or Multipowers (or just normal powers all with the same elemental theme) for each particular mana type? I mean that each type of mana is biased toward specific types of effects. You don't drain life with Blue/Water mana, for example, and Black/Swamp mana heals through draining and necromantic effects. Each type has something at which it excels, and if the others can do it, it tends to be at much greater cost and/or lesser effect. You won't find White/Plains mana powering many necromantic effects, for example, and no one plays mind games better than Blue (hehe, especially with the deck I have). Some Planeswalkers might be able to control different types of mana, but the price is either in power (splitting points between the different mana pools) or time, since it would take more time to power up a strong spell that draws equally on Swamp and Forest mana. Does that make sense?
  4. Re: HERO: Combat Evolved [Equipment Posts & Comments] Was any of this stuff ever updated to 6E?
  5. Re: Gaming in the Magic: The Gathering setting Even Planeswalkers have to start somewhere, though. I think there's definitely room to play one at the beginning of his or her journey.
  6. Re: Gaming in the Magic: The Gathering setting I've thought about it, and it's fun to try to figure it out. I think an Endurance Reserve is the way to go, but I do like the idea of "environmental" Endurance, too. How would one go about doing that? I'd figure that a lot of creatures, Planeswalkers included, have their own reserves of magic, but are skilled at channeling the powers of the various elements of the world in their environment. I'm not sure... I mean, Jace doesn't seem like he'd ever really use, say, the power of Swamps, but I wouldn't think he'd be powerless in a non-Island environment. Perhaps they carry that mana with them, or can call it from other realms?
  7. Magic has quite a few awesome worlds in which to play, as well as a huge variety of possible characters. Including Planeswalkers, who would be really fun characters to play, I think. Plus, I love me some Magic angels. Have any of you ever used HERO to game in the MTG setting? If so, what kinds of templates and things did you use? What kinds of character options?
  8. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Aw, thanks. You guys are pretty awesome! ♥ Once I get the sheet formatted correctly, with your help, I should be able to post the character for realz, yo. At least until I can get HD, which I'd really like to do sometime.
  9. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster I always loved the bit where King Caesar (who was pretty awesome) was using Godzilla as a mobile shield as he walked through the absolutely ridiculous amount of beam-and-missile spam Mechagodzilla was throwing at them. Even so, GvMG II has the "Godzilla as Nature's message" stuff I loved about the Heisei stuff, Rodan as a phoenix, and a couple of the coolest kaiju fights ever, particularly that second battle with Mechagodzilla. And the stuff that happens at the end, with Rodan, I love that bit so much that an homage to it is going into the novel that I consider my single greatest expression. There were many contenders, though. My favorite, for various reasons that I'll have to explain sometime, might be Godzilla vs. Biollante, but the rest of Heisei (Destroyer, anyone?) was great, too.
  10. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Yay, I'm one of you! The King of the Monsters. Accept no substitute! Thank you. And to prove it, here are a couple of really, really great tunes: Godzilla's Theme , from the incomparable Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II, perhaps the best Heisei Godzilla movie ever made, or perhaps the best of any of the eras.
  11. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Thanks! I'll have to try that, unless I can get Hero Designer sometime.
  12. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? I'm not sure how I would do that. I figure I can work CALC well enough, though I don't have much experience with it, but I can learn it. How do you mean using the BBCode for the tables, though, exactly?
  13. Re: Hero System Charater Creation Cheet Sheet...Would You Like One? Did you ever finish this? Assuming it gets the okay, I would totally love a cheat sheet, particularly as I don't have Hero Designer.
  14. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Those look like they'd be good, and I really wish I did have Hero Designer. I'm dirt poor, though, and don't have even $25 for it, I'm afraid. I had to trade to get HERO. I did this up in an Open Office document and just copied and pasted. That's why I asked initially, 'cause I plan on statting up lots of characters from various video games, mostly, with a few movie and book adaptations here and there.

  17. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Time to do a test and see if the formatting holds. Somehow, I doubt it will, which means I will need to come up with a forum-friendly format scheme. Can anyone help me with that? Or should I just do this stuff as attachments? Here, as a simple sample character, is Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5. I figured that'd be a game run somewhere between Heroic and Superheroic; thus, her equipment and stuff hasn't been chosen yet. I also haven't added in a picture or fluff, this is just to figure out the format. 18. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Hi! And thanks for the welcome. Hm. Not being able to edit a thread title could hurt, as I normally edit in the name of the latest character, but if I can figure out that thar blog thing, I might be able to make up for that.
  19. Re: Left 4 Dead Hero Oh, I saw where you put that. Where I would probably shoot for more of an Expert level, which would only a change a few things, I think. Mainly the Special Infected (and maybe the Commons a bit). I think you did really well on your stuff and I wish to shamelessly steal it for a game sometime. I'll also be working on my own builds as I get the hang of the system. Since I specialize in video game characters, I think I'll start with the First Lady of Gaming: Samus Aran.
  20. Re: Left 4 Dead Hero Well, it wouldn't have to be an RKA at necessarily the same level, but actually, I would prefer a greater lethality for it. The way I look at it is that Expert is the "canon" difficulty level: you can't take tons of punches from crazy people without being hurt pretty quickly, and something like the Tank, which can punch cars a hundred feet or shatter thick concrete walls and pillars and such, is going to either kill you in one punch or leave you too broken to do anything. The concrete chunks he rips up, at that size and thrown at that velocity, are going to be either lethal or devastating. I could see Survivors, since they're the heroes, being lucky or tough enough to (potentially) survive, but I actually have no problem with the thrown concrete killing average people in one hit. That seems like what probably happened in the setting, actually. Wow, yikes. The post you quoted has some serious typos. Fixed!
  21. Re: Left 4 Dead Hero Oh, okay. That's a neat way to do that. Thanks! You could substitute that with an RKA, couldn't you?
  22. Re: Left 4 Dead Hero Cool, I'm checking it out, now. Question about the Tank, or any super-strong characters: do they really have to pay points (in addition to paying for high Strength) in order throw heavy objects? Wouldn't that just be something you can do, if you have the strength?
  23. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Sure. And I do love Surbrook's Stuff; back when I (briefly) had 5ER, I used to go to the site all the time.
  24. Re: Can you post character builds on these forums? Is there a time limit on editing posts? If not, great, that allows for index posts to be maintained, which really makes the whole thing better.
  25. Re: Can you post character builds on this forums? Unless I could get a build thread stickied, though, it might be better to set it up at Myth-Weavers. I don't plan to do much in the way of converting between systems, but more just adapting characters from various media as true to form as possible.
