  1. Re: Martial Arts to represent "Basic Training"

Or is Airborne just a special branch of the Rangers? Someone set me straight...I thought it was

    Army-->Special Forces, Rangers

    Navy-->Seals

    Marines-->Recon

    Airforce-->Airborne

What am I missing? Seems like Airborne is just a special branch of the Rangers...can anyone shed some light?

And...if Airborne is not the special branch of the Air Force, then what is?

    Thanks.

  2. Re: Martial Arts to represent "Basic Training"

Well...so much for finishing these packages...Dark Champions page 51 has most of these and in better detail...the only one that is missing is Airborne...I wonder why that was left out as an "Elite" military package?

So then...let's build it...in reference to pg 52 of Dark Champions, comparing Airborne to the existing Recon/Seal/Ranger/Green Berets, how doesit stack up?

    Thanks

  3. Re: Martial Arts to represent "Basic Training"

Thanks all, this has been a big help...so, to sum up from the email, the packages might look something like this:

    Boot camp training packages

    Army

    - +2STR/+2DEX/+2CON

    - PS: Soldier (8-)

    - WF: Small Arms

    - D: Subject to Orders

    - D: DF: Uniform

    Rangers

    - +3 STR/DEX/CON

    - "Commando" Martial Arts package

    - D: Subject to Orders

    Navy

    - WF: Small Arms

    - PS: Sailor (8-)

    - +1STR/+1DEX/+1CON

    - D: Subject to Orders

    - D: DF: Uniform

    Seal

    - +3 STR/DEX/CON

    - "Commando" Martial Arts package

    - D: Subject to Orders

    Airforce

    - +1STR/+1DEX/+1CON

    - PS: Airman 8-

    - Electronics 8-

    - KS: Airforce history 8-

    - Rank (E-2)

    - D: Subject to Orders

    - D: DF: Uniform

    Airborne

    - +3 STR/DEX/CON

    - "Commando" Martial Arts package

    - D: Subject to Orders

    Marines

    - +2STR/+2DEX/+2CON

    - "Commando" Martial Arts package

    - D: Subject to Orders

    - D: DF: Uniform

    Recon

    - +3 STR/DEX/CON

    - "Commando" Martial Arts package

    - D: Subject to Orders

I know these need to be fleshed out a bit...anyone want to help? How would you work Package Deals that require another package deal to qualify? Obviously you've got to have the Army "Basic Training" package before you can take "Ranger". Do you work that with a Disad?

    Thanks.

  4. How would you represent a character who has only "Basic Training" from the army? Specifically, would you represent it as Martial Arts or just a couple of HTH skill levels? Does anyone have a "Basic Training" package deal they'd like to share?

Since I've never been in the military, I really have no idea how extensive the HTH training is. If I had to guess, I'd probably try something like this:

    Martial Strike

    Martial Block

    Martial Throw

Anybody with more experience have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  5. Okay, perhaps I'm over generalizing a bit...but, it certainly *SEEMS* like there are never any FH games at conventions...just look at the ConQuest schedule: http://www.con-quest.com/site/conquest2004/rpg.htm

There are 4 or so Champs games, an X-files game, a Hell's Children game and a game about Sock Puppets in Love or somesuch! But no FH...Is FH too hard to run at a Con? What are your opinions?

    Thanks.

  6. Hero does not have a standard (non-martial) maneuver for tripping an opponent that all characters can use...how would you build this? Base it off legsweep? Remember, it's got to be free...

As an aside...not having a standard maneuver to trip an opponent seems to be an oversight...what are your thoughts on this?

    Thanks.

Yep, the 7 body is only to defeat the first 7pips of armor. the rest damages the target. AP just doesn't work with a weapon like this. It is known to have a high degree of armor penetration, with little stopping power. This was the only way that I could see to make a weapon that could penetrate a Kevlar vest without doing so much damage that against unarmored targets the gun doesn't make sense.

So...if you have 3 pts of hardend defense from Combat Luck, does that mean that the Piercing is completely negated or that the first 3 points of piercing are negated? I'm inclined to go with the second option. What do you all think, is that balanced?

  8. Re: Bolos in the Hero System

8 REAL/45 ACTIVE - Bolas - 3d6 Entangle ADVANTAGES: Transparent to attacks(+0.5) LIMITATIONS: Range based on strength(-0.25), 1 recoverable charge(-1.25), OAF(-1), Can be escaped with Contortionist or 3 phases spent to remove(-0.5), Does not prevent use of Accessible Foci(-1), Cannot form barriers(-0.25), Set effect: Hands or legs only(-0.5)

Alternatively you could go with a ranged Martial Trip -plus- ranged running Drain.

  9. Re: Stargate weapons

As for the "Zat" gun...it appears based on use in the show that the range is fairly short...at least shorter than the staff weapons...would this be a "reduced by range" disadvantage or just "special effect"?

  10. Re: Stargate weapons

Hum...so it looks like you are a fan of the staff weapon being a killing attack? I thought it more appropriately represented by an Energy Blast (8-10 dice)...though that's not going to kill a normal outright (as it does when shooting grunts).
