  1. Re: Nethack Hero

I was thinking about this a while back.

I even started making notes about how to make HERO combat determanistic enough to be programmable.

As a primary programmer of Herosphere I can tell you that the Hero System is in fact programmable... but it is a very complicated process. The basic Attack powers and Defense powers are pretty straight forward for coding, but when you start getting into Adjustment powers it becomes a bookkeeping nightmare (kind of like playing REAL Hero. LOL) It also gets a little wonky when dealing with powers that affect senses and Mental powers.

works for me' date=' i was thinking a summon with TK only to throw dementors away[/quote']

Yeah I think a summon is too complex for what the patronus does. If the patronus could actually do other things then a summon might be appropriate. For all we know, a patronus can do other things other than expell dementors but that hasn't been demonstrated in the books.

Although just using TK to expell the dementors could work to an extent. The problem is that we don't know how long the spell lasts; how long do the dementors stay away from the spell caster until they come back for more?

  3. Re: [Terran Empire] ISP, TSS, TIC ...

I read your reply again and my first reaction is : there could be some rivalry between these organizations.

Absolutely there is rivalry. How many times do we see on dramatic cop shows where the local polive is butting heads with the Feds (FBI/CIA) over who has proper jurisdiction? It creates great conflict and drama, expecially when the different bodies of law enforcement have a slightly different idea of what the punishable crime is and what the proper justice is... and who gets to carry out the justice.

  4. Re: Does Seeker still suck?

My main problem with NightDuck is' date=' you guessed it, the duckbill.[/quote']

    Not this again.

Look at the beak. It is sharp and pointy like the beak of a... HAWK. I duckbill is dull and rounded. It is not a duckbill.

  5. Re: Bat-Swarm Man ???

Do you think a movement power linked to an AOE attack would work just as well? If this is a way to get around, simple flight. Clairsentience (go my minion and spy on the evil ones.)

    I got nothing.

    CES

Actually those are on the right track.

    - If the only thing the character can do in "swarm mode" is an attack then just write it up as that. Most likely AoE, Any Area.

    - If the character can also fly to other hexes in "swarm mode" then make it an AoE attack linked to a Flight power. Or just us the Move By/Through maneuver if you don't want it to do more damage

  6. Re: An Open Call to Action

PS - actually' date=' Ben, involvement by a DOJ member would be most welcome, in fact highly prized. I would just ask they recognize the body as independent - just as I recognize that DOJ has zero reason to take it seriously and zero obligation.[/quote']

Oh we're not going to try to stop this from happening. This is an interesting study.

I doubt anyone from DoJ will have any serious involvement simply because we do not have the time. It is interesting to me, but the only input that I would give would be "Hey, if you like doing it that way, then do it that way," and I know that responses like that are hardly helpful. :)

Oh my, Ben is watching, I see his name there, lurking! Run, hide!

Uh, Ben, nothing going on here...

Relax, I'm only reading this thread so we can steal your ideas and reprint them in our books claiming them as our own. ;)

That, by the way, was a joke and to take it any other way would be sillier than the joke itself.
