  1. Re: Villians & Vigilantes (aka Living Legends) "to HERO Adaptations & Conversions* Thank you, Jhamin for posting. I love the Hero Designer software. I hope these characters make your game just a little better. More coming!!
  2. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? Exactly, that what is being discussed. Toolkit or alternate rule. I e-mailed the members of the group about this, and I have received positive feedback. We only have one powered armor guy, and even said, "Yeah, what's the problem??" We have discussed this previously and he had plenty of time to think about it.
  3. Re: Villians & Vigilantes (aka Living Legends) "to HERO Adaptations & Conversions* Bringing in the MACE. I am almost done. I will dropping it off in HD format soon!!!
  4. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? Do you consider armor as a power? I have seen conflicting ideas about this. Some house rules say yes and others say no. I have also seen house rules that do not allow Suppress power (sometimes generally) and sometimes (specifically towards various defenses)
  5. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? However, the problem with this concept is this still does not address the problem with Power Armor, generally. This rule only applies to those games where Four color role playing occurs. I have also seen on the web House rules that follow along with my idea of "all powered armor, devices, weapons are foci and can never take away that aspect". These games do not follow the four color campaign idea. I am still developing my list and be able to intergrate the chart.
  6. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? Someone suggested taking a look a new limitation kicked around....called Battlesuit. I found it out on the web. It is a -1/2 limitation. It works exactly like a focus. They even have a list of malfunctions and breakdowns based on the battle suit (powered armor) taking a BODY. They even came up with a 5 or less on the roll plus 1 BODY to determine if a part of the battlesuit (a power) malfunctions. It is an interesting concept. I like the chart and the roll idea.
  7. Re: Hypothetical Axis Amerika 2005 I got it a few months ago for $1.00 The postage was $3.00. Looks brand new (looking at it right now!!!) If people keep talking up the interest, the items go up and up in price. The key for bidders is bid low and keep their mouths shut until the time runs out. Then it's GOOD TIMES!!
  8. Re: Corven's Heroes & Villains I have a question about Mr. Psycho. In the write up, character points are assigned to languages and Linguist, but the background never mentions any of it! What's that about???
  9. Re: Hypothetical Axis Amerika 2005 My favorite part of these "what if" type scenarios, is how things we have in our world would be different. Star Wars - a movie about the "heroic" Darth Vader and his stormtroopers fighting to get back the plans of the Life Star from the terrorist group who sadly think they are "rebels" Raiders of the Lost Ark- a movie about an german american archaeologist sent to recover the Ark before the evil jews get their hands on it!! ( I apologize if anyone is offended by the jewish reference. I don't think anyone here has meant the reference other than in historical context) That's just two...... And who are the famous people in America who have helped the Nazis, who was neutral, who fights against them, and who has been gotten rid of.
  10. Re: Hypothetical Axis Amerika 2005 As stated earlier, I strongly recommend Champions in 3-D. It was sourcebook produced in 1990. It had a lot of interesting full campaigns including Nazi World with it's own timeline. I bought it intially, but lost it. A few months ago I found it on Ebay for $1.00 Thank you ebay!!
  11. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? I am not here to change any minds or change the rules of the HERO system. All I am giving is my take on the concept of Powered Armor. This viewpiont comes from years of watching, participating, and playing in RPGs crossing all the genres. I have played many Super Hero RPGs. If this is not your cup of tea, I understand. I appreciate the feedback and if anyone would like to work on the list, as posted earlier, I would gladly accept any submissions. I believe this topic has been discussed enough, and I believe everyone has had an opportunity to voice their opinion. I believe I should quit while I am ahead (?), neck and neck (?), falling behind(?) I will also be updating the successes and failures of the project for all those interested.
  12. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? There is alot of opportunity for adventure seeds....reason for Hunteds Depends on the tech level of the campaign. Very realistic option. The problem with that concept is that if I can't damage the armor, how am I doing damage to the person inside it? If you all have agreed to OIHID, I don't think the question will be asked. As long as this is spelled out up front, there are no problems. Universal focus can also be added to my list, thanks for the idea. This can be added to my list, good idea. I can count on my hands how many times I have ever seen Magic Ring Man or Magic Belt Man. People are fascinated by Powered Armor. You can always add that to their OAF limitation. You can always apply these criterias to other items. The difference is that alot of times these OIF is not enforced, because GMs are running games with far too many characters with most of the time complex power builds in complex campaign settings. This is one reason OIF has become so "cliche". I suggest a short list to draw from to help define the character a little further. Also, if you are not playing in Four color campaigns, this list will greatly help. The idea that people are going to drop out of Powered Armor because even without the limitation they can still have some problems with the armor just doesn't fly!! Granted, some will decide to go a different direction with their characters, but the players who love Powered Armor will take it all in stride. Good thing I didn't bring up making Powered Armor a type of VPP or suggesting Powered Armor is not solely a pile of points but actually built!
  13. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? I didn't say everyone would love the idea. This idea really springs from people who I have played with, who have used "house rules" similiar to this over the years. It isn't an exhausted list and somethings can be switched, dropped, or added. This is by no means a final version, but you get the gist. Once again, this will not follow in lines of the four color campaign. This rules works really well when the player "says why can't I do that to the villain's suit?" I have heard this alot. This rule is the suggestion that special effects affect and vice-versa. I appreciate the feedback!! Thankyou!!
  14. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? . I was trying to be polite and answer your posts. Here is the idea.... Power Armor - a suit of armor (technological, magical, or alien) that provides multiple powers (attack, defense, movement, and sensory or any combination of) or enhancement to characteristics. Power Armor (no limitation) 1) Can be damaged, destroyed, removed from the owner when unconscious, 2) Lost, stolen, or taken away temporarily 3) Requires minor maintenance (polish, painting, etc..) 4) Systems test performed on a irregular basis 5) Non-ferrous 6) Don in a normal time (set up by GM) Power Armor (-1/4 limitation) 1) Can be damaged, destroyed, removed from the owner when unconscious, 2) Lost, stolen, or taken away temporarily 3) Requires minor maintenance (polish, painting, etc..) 4) Systems test performed on a regular basis 5) Non-ferrous or ferrous (if magnetics are rarely used) 6) Don in double normal time (set up by GM) Power Armor (-1/2 limitation) 1) Can be damaged, destroyed, removed from the owner when unconscious, 2) Lost, stolen, or taken away temporarily 3) Requires minor maintenance (polish, painting, etc..) 4) Systems test performed on a strict schedule 5) Ferrous (if magnetics are regularly used) 6) Don in extended time (set up by GM) This is not an exhausted list, but should get those people started. I am going to try this in the PBEM I am running.
  15. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? Here is an example of a person who has modified his game to meet his tastes. He doesn't go into specifics, but I am sure certain rules have either been modified, bent, or even dropped. For him, it's still the same game.
  16. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? This seems to be where the disconnect lies. You apparently play in Four Colour campaign style. This rule change is for games that do not follow that path. I agree, the system is very flexible. However, this alternate rule is not addressed. In my alternate rule, Dr. Destroyer's armor and Viper Agent Smith's armor are the same in that the armor is real and can be affected by the universe just like anything else. Their are alot of differences. I also noticed, In Hugh's comments, the reliance on the comic book "feel" or being true to the comic books. I, haven't read a comic book in 15 or 16 years. I remember them from my youth, when I would go down to the five and dime and purchase the latest copy of Nazi Smasher and get a ice cream cone with a quarter!!. Seriously, I don't play this game because of comic books. I understand that the origin or essence of the game comes from comic books, but that's where it ends for me. I suspect that is why we don't agree.
  17. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? I am glad that this gets hashed out prior to gaming, this goes back to the consistency. That's fine, to a certain degree. Did he ask, " If taken from you, can it be used by someone else agianst you or another opponent?" As long as this is a consistent rule. Some of his opponents would be just as skilled, and have this same rule applied. That goes to the tone of the campaign. I have no problem with that. Then the limitation is more familiarity with the item than what appears to be? I agree. Are the all the items in your campaign world without the Foci limitation indestructible? as long as you are consistent. You have been consistent, but in games where that isn't the rule, there has to be a slight change. I agree with the write up, but is it an OIF, OAF, OIHID? I I agree. But, for those players and GMs who get tired of the "cliches", the idea of removing one cliche may appeal to them.
  18. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? On page 12. I apologize if I was rude in my earlier posts, but the Ignore list will help stem the flame wars that would have erupted. I understand people are very fervent in their opinions, but all of us including me, should respect others and their ideas.
  19. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? I agree, I am not saying they have the market on that idea. It's just that GvE, in most literature, film, or TV is the over riding theme. RPGs are left to player's actions, the throw of the dice and GM's discretion.
  20. Re: Add A Power Here is a great new power...Ignore.... it is a form of Suppress with a limitation (Only works against those with limited thinking)....very effective!!!! How it works, I put those people who people who have nothing productive on the Ignore list. Poof!!! They're gone!! I am sure this will generate negative responses back, but I don't see them!!! On a serious note, good luck with your project. If new ideas didn't come into this system, we would still be playing 1st ed.
  21. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? My point is consistency. All of the items you meantioned are Foci (true), but that is not where the limitation comes from. Case in point, do you allow Disarms, Grabs, or strikes against items without foci limitation? Are the all the items in your campaign world without the Foci limitation indestructible? I agree some of the things you mentioned are indestructible...Norse Storm Hammer, some other magical items of power, but certainly not the blaster gun. I am not suggesting getting rid of the limitation, but not explaining the limitation for Powered Armor as OIF.....it has become too cliche.
  22. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? Those can remain with the OAF limitation because all all bows, guns, swords, staves and other hand weaponry are both obvious and accessible. Just as long as there is no such thing as a hand item which cannot be taken away. Also, 99% of OAF apply to one Power or at most three Powers. The major factor in the limitation is the ease at which the item can be lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed. No, the logic is that there are no such things as items which because they do not have the Foci limitation means they cannot be taken, damaged, destroyed, or used by others. There should only be a short list of indestrutible items.
  23. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? As we continue on, if all Powered Armor is naturally OIF to begin with, then there is no need for a limitation based on those three facts. Therefore, as Powered Armor goes, OIF does not apply. OIHID, doesn't address the issue directly either. No limitation, doesn't work as the Powered Armor is still OIF by defintion.
  24. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? So you're going for a more realistic game? What comic (if any) would be along the lines of the games you run? The games I have run or been involved with, really don't follow the lines of comics. They more follow the spirit of the comics. Comics are really stories about good versus evil (for the most part) and usually don't get caught up in the mechanics of the universe. Suffice is to say, this is my take on Powered Armor in this concept. Obvious - All Powered Armor is obvious. Inaccessible - All Powered Armor is inaccessible. You can't take it from them without the extreme effort. Focus - All Powered armor is the "focus" or source of the power. Powered Armor is different than an armored costume worn by a Mutant, Psionic, Alien, etc...
  25. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? However, the problem is most foci handle one power, where the OIF for Power Armor can cover most if not all of the character. You also have to look at all of the foci listings IIF rarely ever used OIF used tremendously IAF rarely used OAF used frequently OIF would be continued, but not for Powered Armor that provides so much for the character. Comic book logic, in my mind, is when the "physics" or "reality" are "bent" to move the story along. They may have had some good input, but they don't want to even hear it. They would rather bash it or unleash personal attacks. For those not interested in bashing or launching personal attacks, if HERO produced an Ultimate Power Armor book, what do expect to see in it? I would expect an alternate concept to Power Armor which does not include OIF!!
