    Beastboy

Re: Beastboy Where are you getting that Multi-Form can't go in a pool? Multi-Form itself is a standard power and according to the text on page 212 there's nothing at all that forbids it from being in a pool. As far as the senses go just buy them on the multi-form itself. I do agree with the limitations you brought up though. My suggestion to the OP is to stat it up as a Multi-Form VPP and then just stat out a variety of animals for the player to shape-change into. Let him know that if you guys need stats for something that you guys haven't stated before the game starts that you'll base it off one of the stated forms. If he wants to come up with new and unique forms to use frequently then let him but let him know that you guys aren't going to let it slow the game down. In other words make sure he knows new form means you guys will be winging it, new form he wants to use a bunch will have to be winged until after the session is over then it'll get stated out fully if needed.
  2. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts I built a multi-form mimic character who could always take on the forms he'd learned. The game effect I used for this was to buy 'naked' multi-forms, in other words I bought like 16 multi-forms but only defined two of them. As the game progressed I was planning on spending some xp on additional multi-forms if I needed it. Something similar could be done with a multipower with the GMs permission, the point value wouldn't be to obscene especially if done in fixed slots. If you're guns the only thing that really changes it would be even easier since you already have the multipower for that. This of course assumes a permanent copying of the new tech. A vpp could do it to. For VPP Limitations; Only Attack Powers (-1/4), Only to Mimic Technological Devices (-1), Burnout 15- (Permanent Unless Re-Mimiced, Applies Only to Slots; -1/4), Powers May Only Be As Powerful as Mimiced Device (-1/2). Then if you want more stipulations Requires Successful HTH Attack Roll (-1/2) and Suit to Device Contact Required (-1) could work. Even with all of that though a VPP is still going to be expensive since you can't modify the Pool Cost. *edit* And I'm slow. Beast's multipower slots should do the trick aside from the drains
  3. Re: A progressive multiform. The triggered Aid idea for this I thought about as well. Just building the characters he switches into by adding limitations to his powers might get pretty complicated considering the growth cycles they'd go through. Personally I like the idea you have for this braincraft though I don't know that I'd call one way right and the other wrong. Multi-Form has a lot of potential for abuse and this is actually one potential example of it. Not saying what the OP is shooting for is abusive, just that edging high point characters into a low-powered campaign is possible with Multi-Form and it's something the GM should really look at to make sure game balance is maintained. Honestly though I think Multi-Form with a limitation is the simplest way to represent what the character is shooting for. When I first read the OP I thought he was shooting for another form of progressive multi-form were the multi-forms each take multi-form and you basically hit a point were the system breaks. Infinite character points.
  4. Re: A progressive multiform. The math looks right to me. As far as the gradual effect thing I don't know. No conscious control might be one way to do it, gradual effect another. Probably the best bet would be a Limited Power (Can only use multi-form progressively and only after x time in previous form). Or x time in combat or x amount of whatever depending on how you want to work it.

    Dementator

Re: Dementator The first thing that struck me looking over the character is how does this belt work? Every power was bought to zero-end and I don't see any mention of charges. Does it have an infinite power supply of some kind? Also to buy a damage shield to persistent it looks like it needs to be bought to constant first, as per the FAQ and this power effect from CK&C Fiery Form: HKA 2d6, Continuous (+1),Damage Shield (does damage in HTH combat; +¾), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½), Persistent (+½); Always On (-½), No STR Bonus (-½).
  6. Re: Fueled By *** Power Help Yeah, that's one of the ideas I was playing with when I brought up charges. Basically put charges on the power (actually a TK EC) that could only be recharged when struck by five or ten points of physical damage and that faded quickly if not used. And it was late when I wrote the thread title . Fueled by Physical Damage would have been better and less confusing.
  7. Re: Fueled By *** Power Help That's true for the general effect. Part of the way I'm envisioning it though is that it takes a lot of direct energy to get the ball rolling so to speak and that that energy bleeds off very quickly if not used up. As an example I was going to do Absorption 5d6 with Increased Fade Rate (-20 per Turn). So assuming the character can hit 60 END in a single Turn and didn't use any of it or get hit again by the end of Turn Four all the stored energy would have bled off. That high fade rate would also bleed off any minor returns from walking, running, etc. But in general I do agree that other similar effects could pick up some recovery.
  8. Re: Fueled By *** Power Help Yeah, it's the most logical way to do it and frankly it's the way that 'fits' best with the power idea. When I put it down on paper though by the book I felt like I was paying way to much for the TK powers considering the effective limitation I was putting on them. Not to mention the extra points shelled out for absorption. Maybe a Limited Power (Power Fueled by Empty Power Reserve; -1) limitation coupled with Absorption and an END Reserve would feel like it fit better. As far as the friends slapping the character around thing it would be possible but I'd work in some RP reason for that not to happen. It just feels hokey to me to have the character get hurt on purpose to fuel his powers and frankly doesn't feel very heroic.
  9. I've seen the idea of having absorption fuel an end reserve come up a few times and I'm trying to get something workable that's similar. The power effect is basically hero gets hit, hero can use telekinetic attacks. If he's not getting punished then his telekinetic abilities don't operate at all. He basically stores up the energy and unleashes it. Some basic guidelines would be that the energy needs to dissipate quickly, if built using absorption an increased fade rate would probably work. I've looked at using charges, having absorption fuel the charges for the TK powers, but that still leaves me with trying to figure out how many base charges the power would have, rather or not it recovers on it's own (which it shouldn't), and setting up an absorption to tk ratio that doesn't limit the character concept more then needed (a base charge of 1 on his TK level would require 60 points of absorption to fuel once). Another thought is ditching absorption completely and just using charges that Only Recharge When Character is Struck in Combat with maybe Charges Fade After 1 minute or something like that. I've also played with Absorption to End Reserve and TK only works off End Reserve but ended up with a very limited power that was very expensive. Anyone have any thoughts on how to put something like this together?
  10. Re: Complex Power Build I like that idea. Once I figure out how to install Hero designer I''ll play around with it and post a follow up thread with the character. Thanks for all the ideas everyone.
  11. Re: Complex Power Build I like this idea. Not sure if my GM will go for it but it does take care of the going from one form to the other. I thought about doing it this way but I want the breadth of his distraction to increase with every personality he learns to clone. Especially if I do it as a VPP as opposed to just a large number of undefined multiforms. I want a real draw back for him having so many people inside his head and for it to get worse with the more personalities he shares his mental space with. I like this. I want Shyft to be able to resist the accidental change using his ego possibly vs. the ego of the other personalities.
  12. Okay I'm building a character with a large number of undefined multiforms who is able to clone other people he comes in physical contact with. Once he clones them he basically copies their intire character sheet as one of his available multi-forms, complete with psychological limitations. Now the kicker is that I want to work in some sort of limitation on the power so that the more personalities he abosorbs the crazier he gets. I was thinking like maybe a -1 to perception checks or possibly all intellegence based rolls per 2 or 4 personalities he clones becuase each personality becomes something of a voice inside his head once he clones them. The voices only affect the true form who is in a way a link between the others and the dominant personality. When he shifts into another multiform all the voices go still except for the multiforms and maybe a very quiet voice of the ture form. Secondly I want the multiform power built so that it takes a full phase action to switch (if it doesn't already have to check my book) which is easy enough and also so that he has to switch to his true form inbetween shifts to his secondary forms. For example he can't go directly from cloned guy A to cloned guy B he has to become true form before he can hit cloned guy B. This affect I'm pretty sure I can work out easily enough but their is one more I'm having problems with. Because Shyft has the clones in his subconcious I want it to be possible that in certain situations the clones have a chance to take over without being called up by the true form. Say Clone A is completly afraid of heights and Shyft is up on a high roof top. I want the clone to have a chance to take over as the dominante personality until the situation passes. Any suggestions on how to do this?

    Taunt

Re: Taunt LMAO. True that. But beyond that I would like the character to have some sort of ingame reflection. The player is ample at RPing such situations but we both want him to be able to over ride the better judgement of NPCs.

    Super Names

Re: Super Names Here's a couple. Shyft Edge Rain Enoch Blink (I'm sure some of those are already on here but figured I'd post anyway) Also the Dumpshock forums have a rather large list of runner names for Shadow run. I'll post a link as soon as I can pull one up (DS is currently switching servers. Been having problems pulling up older threads.)

    Taunt

Re: Taunt Thanks all. And yeah the character is a brick. Buddy of mine wants to play a character who isn't super strong. His whole power is basically you can't hurt me.

    Taunt

I'm looking for build suggestions on a taunt ability, either as a power, or possible ways to represent this with high stats or skills. The first idea I have would be a presence attack and the second is a transform that would give the target a disad that was a total psychological limitation making the target want to avenge any wrongs to his honor or something like that. Any suggestions?
  18. Re: Angel, the worst original character concept ever? I like Angel. But I really like Arch-Angel. Then again I go for moody somewhat dark heros. But yeah, definately has that chick-magnet thing going.
  19. Re: A Momentary Shyft (Character Background) Interesting idea. I was actually thinking of playing it with the other angle. Basically Blink (re his sister), is eternally optimistic and would be even unto death (Near total Optimistic Disad). Shyft however is distrought and reckless over her death. Though he doesn't remember her per se he does remember enough to know she is the only relative he knows of. Losing her was like losing the only link to his past and he views the voice in his head as a phantasm and constant reminder of her dying. Most of the scenes I've thought about where her personality re-emerges have been extremely heartbreaking for Shyft though Blink handles it with empathy and comforting to those around her. Such as if Shyft ever finds his parents and let's his mother know the situation with his sister. Mom asks Shyft to let her talk to her and he does. The whole scence while the Shyft personality is dominate he's sad and a bit withdrawn. When Blink comes to the surface she is the opposite and comforts mom saying, "It's okay mom I live on in Jared." Or something to that affect.
  20. Re: A Momentary Shyft (Character Background) Motivation? Good question. Since the GM wants us all to have amnesia then working something into his background that would inherently want him to fight crime is difficult. The only thing I've really come up with is that some of the personality traits that were passed along from the person he was cloned from gives him a strong desire to help the innocent. I also know that the rest of the party also will have both amnesia and many disadvantages that are along the Hero Psychological limitations line. I also want his sister to die in the begining and for him to absorb her personality and abilities. Playing some more with the idea the last couple days I'm thinking of giving him some powers and disadvantages to reflect that when he's in his primary form the other personalities guide him and influence him. Basically like having Multiple personality disorder. His sister was motivated by a strong desire to help others and her voice is one of the ones inside his head. Thus giving him further reason to help the innocent. Animal forms I want him to learn to do eventually but starting off I'm going to limit his shape changing to humans and his multiform power's special effect will preclude it being used to clone non-sentient beings. Thanks for the feed back Zorn.
  21. Re: A Momentary Shyft (Character Background) Just a quick third person account of a character idea I'm playing around with. The basica idea is that Shyft has full shapechanging abilities and can effectively duplicate those he touches but at the expense of surpressing his own personality in exchange for assuming the personality of the person he is transforming into. Thinking of taking Multiform with a large number of undefined alternate forms for him and shapechanging. Later on have him learn a few shapechanging tricks and be able to take the form of animals but for now he'll only have the ability to shapechange into humans. Basica personality of the character is a loner and I also am going to talk to the GM about him witnessing the death of his sister in the first scene of the opening adventure for the campaign and having him assimilate her so she can live on inside of him. On the same note the GM wants all of us to have Amnesia and wake up in a lab that's been ransacked so I'm not sure if the story above will really tie into the campaign but I like the idea of playing the clone of a dead guy. Anyway feedback would be appreciated. Enjoy

Subject’s abilities proved to cause instability in individual cells and resulted in a terminal cancer diagnosis. Experiment Beta 001 still appears to be stable. Subject demonstrates remarkable abilities and seems to have taken to the treatments better then her twin brother. Beta 001 has not been informed of her brother’s death. Staff psychologists have deemed that it would be detrimental to the continuation of the program. Several stem cells have been saved. Cloning of Alpha 001 to commence Monday morning. DNA will be altered slightly to increase cell stability. /:Begin File download @ 11:02:01………. File Download Complete; 11:02:18:\ Open Intercepted File? Subject was awakened from accelerated cloning stasis this morning and demonstrates the desired abilities. An odd side effect of the cloning was noted by the staff; many unexpected aspects of Alpha 001 were passed on to Alpha 002 other then the expected cellular cloning such as many of the original subjects personality traits and basic motor functions. Alpha 002 appears in all regards to be a well-rounded man of his age able to communicate fully and many of Alpha 001’s learned skills also were passed along during the cloning process. These unexpected results have greatly expedited the retraining of Alpha 002 though we are still unsure as to the exact cause. Most concrete memories seem to have escaped the fluke, subject was shown a picture of Beta 001 and though he knew that he was her twin sister he could not recall her name, staff psychologists are working to reconstruct Alpha 002’s memories in hopes that he can be reintroduced to his sister and we can play off the failure of the original Alpha experiment. /:Begin File download @ 09:24:14………. File Download Complete; 09:24:31:\ Open Intercepted File? (Y)/(N) y To: doctormoores@uspec.org From: drfoster@uspec.org Subject: Uspec-Alpha 002 Dr. Moores, Experiment Alpha 002 continues to surprise the staff Doctors. Alpha 002 has shown not only to have the improved cellular stability hoped for but also the remarkable ability to assimilate the personality and skills of those he comes in direct contact with. Alpha 002’s own personality and abilities show signs of repression while he assimilates other life forms. He has also showed the ability to keep knowledge of the assimilation after he has returned to his original form and assumes the forms he has taken previously at later times without having to come in direct contact with the subject a second time. The personalities he assumes do appear to grow over time in their own regard and appear to share conscious memory with Alpha 002 while he is in his own form or the forms of other individuals. Though it appears that so closely mimicking another individual suppresses his ability to shape change further. In other words while he has shown the ability to fully imitate my physical features with his shape changing abilities and even to make minor alterations such as changing hair and eye color when he fully assimilates my personality even minor alterations to my form seem to be at this time beyond his abilities. At this time I would call the experiment a success. We have not as of yet been able to rebuild the full memories of Alpha 001 but have managed to reintroduce him to Beta 001. Following staff psychologists’ suggestions of explaining away his fractured memory due to an unexpected side effect of the experiment. Beta 001 has agreed to help us walk her ‘brother’ through his memory restructuring and we have not explained to either the exact nature of his ‘rebirth’. Thankfully Alpha 002 follows suite with Alpha 001 as far as personality goes and appears just as reluctant to befriend the other subjects on the grounds thus easing the process of having to explain to too many curious minds. Beta 001 seems to be adjusting well to the situation considering the circumstances just as staff psychologists predicted her optimistic and trustworthy nature has allowed us to further give Alpha 002 the impression that he is none other then the original Jared Roberts.
  23. Re: Help me populate the Seeds of Change Universe The setting and premise reminds me alot of Rising Stars. An excellent set of graphic novels about a group of kids who gained super powers from the passing of a comet. The story leads into their adult lives and the struggles they face with morality and being super human.
