  1. Re: Fantasy Hero Preorder Available

I also think it is a very good (or is it evil?) scheme. It is my prefered method of buying for the "can't wait" books as long :

    1) The discount on the bundle is substantial.

    2) The S&H cost isn't a killer.

    3) The PDF is "complete". That is it as a cover and a back cover and is in color if the book is in color.

    4) The wait to get the book isn't too long.

So far, DOJ's scheme respond to all four so I bought H6th, CU, APG and FH that way. I bought Champions, Ultimate Base and HSMA in the FLGS as I will for HSB eventually.

From what I have seen so far, FH is really good!

  2. Re: FANTASY HERO Sneak Peek #1: The Cover!

I really liked Elmore's cover on FH 4th while Storn's cover on FH 5th didn't do it for me (too cartoonish for my taste). This one is just awesome. Easily the best of the three. Dynamic scene, atmospheric lighting, desperate situation, a big warrior fighting with two weapons, it's a winner.

  3. Re: Lucha Libre convention game!

It's possible it's not needed? Con game and Luchadores don't get killed and all that?

Sure, it is entirely possible this was a concious decision. And I am sure if there is no speed on the sheet it is because it is not used.

The other things "missing" are the CVs but again, my guess is that for a con, there is not many maneuvers used aside from those on the sheet and when a special case arise (like a move-through for example), teh bunneh just work it out in his head for the players.

All these points in my opinion help to make the sheet simpler and cleaner and give the impression HERO is easy. All good!

  4. Re: Lucha Libre convention game!

I gotta show this off. Our very own DrDestiny (who did the character portraits in LLH) offered to do a picture of the new Luchadora. So here she is in all her glory:

I give you, Silver Sapphire (aka Zafiro de Plata)!

These character sheets are great. They are effectively hiding a lot of the non-essential numbers sometime giving the impression the system is complex. Looking at this sheet, HERO looks as easy to get than say Savage World.

On Silver Sapphire sheet there is no Body value though.

  5. Re: (6e) Classified: Characters Wanted!

great minds and all of that' date=' hey why don't you post up what you have and see if the OP can use him? If nothing else, depending on how similar Kid Paragon could be related to my Paragon...I like that kind of stuff[/quote']

Hmmm I guess I could... except that his background his written in french so maybe only the sheet could be enough?

  6. Re: (6e) Classified: Characters Wanted!

    Sorry I am running late...

    I will have

    Paragon: Flying Brick

    Marksman: trickarcher

    &

The Fox: Skill monger Urban Champions

ready by 21 Sep09 for you

 Wow! I have just finished a few weeks ago my character for an upcoming campaign. It is a youngish Superman knock-off called Paragon but dubbed Kid Paragon by the press. He is a Flying Blasting Brick. My alternate character was a Batman knock-off (character sheet yet unfinished). The name is still in the air but The Fox was one of the runner up!

  7. Re: Surely You're Joking, Mr Long.

So far I only have very minor "meh" in 6E. First I'll echo Hugh on DEX.

My own pet peeve for 6e would initially be pricing DEX at 2 points' date=' along with doubling the cost of DEX skill levels. [\QUOTE']

Second, I find OMCV and DMCV ugly to the eye. I would have prefered OMV and DMV or even better rename the whole set:

    OPC (Offensive Physical Combat)

    DPC

    OMC

    DMC

Third, I would have like OMCV and DMCV to be more encompassing and include more mundane ways to influence people (like Presence attack). It would then have been useful for everyone. As is, OMCV is on everyone's sheet but it is only useful for a fraction of people. It would be a reworking of Presence attack mechanics though so maybe not worth it.

So, all in all, I didn't have any WTF moment so far ;)

  8. Re: Was Fantasy Hero 2nd ed self-contained? How was it?

I'm part of the fanbase that would love to see the HERO lite rules (Sidekick' date=' Basic 6E Rulebook, whatever) combined with a fantasy setting in order to attract some folks over to HERO. Probably not titled "Fantasy HERO" as that is the genre book.[/quote']

Yep, we are standing side by side in the same crowd.

  9. Re: Adventures Into Darkness Arrives Jan. 12!

Hey guys! OK' date=' we've had this on sale for a week now, and not a single purchase. What's going on? I can't think of a single reason *not* to buy this- it's cheap ($11.95), it's written by Ken Hite, the setting is awesome, the book looks great. Fill me in- what have we missed? dw[/quote']

Speaking only for myself, there are two things that stop me from buying HERO's PDF :

First, the lack of previews. This product is a good example as I'd like to buy it but I won't buy it sight unseen. I find it quite surprusing that no effort is done to promote your products with previews.

Second, I am under the impression from a previous topic that HERO's digitalized books come without cover image. I assume it is not the case for this one but for other books, I won't buy the PDF of a book when the cover does exist but is not provided in the file.

    Cheers guys!

  10. Re: Scourges Of The Galaxy

    A few reasons maybe.

I wasn't even aware it was out. The last update (october 17) state that "We’re still waiting on Scourges Of The Galaxy to arrive at the warehouses". Others may be in the dark.

I still buy mostly from my FLGS mainly because I love to have a look at a book before I buy it (see below).

The store doesn't offer previews of the products. It is in my opinion the main flaw of the store. Heck, when available there is a better view of the cover on Warehouse 23.

Aside from that, if quality is good, I intend to buy it... as soon as I can have a peak :)

  11. Re: Need some name help: French Supers

How about Forte. Which means 'strength'. It would be a good name for a brick type.

There are a couple of options here :

    Force = strenght

    Fort = strong (masculine)

    Forte = strong (feminine)

I apologize for the many posts. I had to choose between replying individually (which people might find annoying) or a multi-quotes long post (which people might find annoying). In the end, I went for the easiest.

  12. Re: Need some name help: French Supers

It's... not really all that surprising' date=' though, is it? I mean, it's not like the ability to speak French is [i']rare[/i]...

Well I would assume that Le Baiser secret attack is some kind of kiss of death not his/her ability to speak French :D

  13. Re: Need some name help: French Supers

    ah yes

    la liberté vigueur

It doesn't sound right. Vigoureuse Liberté?

chatouiller cute and acrobatic teen sidekick limited mentalist able to cause uncontrolled laughter.

    I would say Chatouilleur

together they defend the freedom of the French people and the world.

    Nice ideas.

  14. Re: Need some name help: French Supers

    Hey guys,

Allow me to correct some mispelling for you (I will try not to make some myself ;) ). Keep in mind some expressions may be written different ways so I expect some people to come back and tell me they were right as well.

    Fleur-di-lis

    Fleur de lys

    La Fantome

Technically it is Le Fantôme but I guess it would be acceptable for a female to be called La Fantôme.

Le Polisson is a less obvious possibility - it means "devil' date='" but also "rascal," much like we might say, "you little devil!" [/quote']

Yes, Polisson means "rascal" and has nothing to do with "devil". It is mostly used to describe a little rascal in a cute kind of way.

    Le Hypnoteur

    L'Hypnotiseur

    La colombe blanc

    La Colombe Blanche

    Hope that helps!

  15. Re: Strength as a Figured Characteristic

Depends on what we think makes it hard to get for newcomers now (to the extent that it is hard to get). Decoupling Figureds would essentially mean that there were 14 Primary Characteristics instead of 8 Primary and 6 Figured' date=' which might be seen by some as too many entirely-distinct CHAs. But on the other hand, it would also remove some math formulas, divisions, rounding, etc. which put off some newcomers. It's probably a wash, IMO. Or maybe a little simpler with just one kind of CHA.[/quote']

Simply decoupling Figured Characteristics has the advantage of reducing the number of Mathematical Formulas needed at Character Creation.

If anything I think it'd make the system look easier. It's not like other systems don't have roughly a similar number of starting numbers (D20 has the "Characteristics" plus Saves, AC, Initiative, etc).

I believe there are a small proportion of players that are completely put off by whatever math there is in a game but in my opinion, the biggest challenge newcomers face when the come to HERO, is the huge about of work to be done up front before you can start a campaign. You and I, playing the game for years may not think this is such a challenge but I can imagine new players and GM being totally overwhelmed by the flexibility provided. "Here are nuts and bolts for you. Build whatever you want." This a much greater offender then trying to figure out that PD=STR/5. I'd even say that for people coming from other games, it must be comforting to have ready made packages, characteristics in that case, that make sense for them.

That being said, and I am now dangerously threadjacking so I will try to make ity brief, I would like the HERO Rulebook (6th maybe) to be a real stripped down toolkit which decoupled figured characteristics, the powers and disadvantages systems pretty much as is (at least in philosophy) and the Skills system with standard skill rolls (x+CHA/Y) depending on game style (in other words, I would make page 11 to 15 of Ultimate Skill part of the basic toolkitting rules). It would then provide suggestions and tips on 1) how to build "packages characteristics" (like the way they are now), 2) how to build Talents, Super-Skills, Magic and Super-Powers with the Power system and 3) how to choose your base skill rolls for different campaign (so, 9+CHA/5 or 7+CHA/3?). Note that 2) is already very well covered in the actual rule book with a section on Talents and many exemples in the sidebars and 3) is already very well explained in Ultimate Skill p.11 to 15.

Second, I books like Turakian Age for exemple would be a little more complete. The Character Creation section on the book would not just give tips and suggestions about how you can use the rulebook to create TA characters but would spell out how the author envisionned character creation within the setting. So here are the characteristics used, how much they cost and how they influence (or not) secondary characteristics and skills, here are the TA skills and talents lists and here are the racial, cultural and professional packages available. Part of this is already well done but most of the time, they feel like incomplete suggestions about how to run the (Turakian Age) game. By making them more developped, a group could jump right in the game while another could decide to use the toolkit to tweak it to taste ("the TA book says that STR cost 2 per +1 and gives such and such but in my game (flipping throught the rulebook)... it will cost 3 per +1 and gives such and such and else.

Third, and by now I owe an apology to the OP for threadjacking, HeroDesigner would support that king of toolkiting. "Ok, in my game the skills will be based on 7+CHA/3 (click a checkbox), I will use this characteristic set (upload a prefab or use the characteristic builder), this skill set (prefab again), this talent set (ditto), these packages, this magic system and these spells (ditto, ditto and ditto).
