  1. Morpheus Unbound has long been one of my 'go to' sites - along with Matt's Champions Page, the Great Net Book of Real Heroes, and Surbrooks Stuff - when looking for build inspirations and such. Great to see it get some love.

Where else might you find such things as this classic scenario from the Adventurers Club magazine (WARNING: Some potential spoilers for classic Champions campaigns (circa 1983) involving the group known as Genocide.   )

  2. I'd say find the Starwars d20 rule books, and apply Killer Shrike's methodology for converting d20 stuff to HERO.

That said, I put Google to work and came up with the following:

    http://www.sysabend.org/champions/campaigns/StarHeroWars/CharacterGeneration.htm (scroll down for races)

    Races

The packages below are a combined Racial and Cultural packages. They describe the "average" of the species.

To find the Species average stats first assume that for any characteristic not listed the average is assumed to be 10. For characteristics that are listed with a changed Maxima (whether increased, or decreased) subtract 10 to find the "average" stat. Apply all powers and skills listed in the package to complete the "average" of that species.

  3. This potential development has uses in other genres (such as a maguffin for a Dark Champions scenario...or as a power source for a hero in Champions...etc) but I suspect that it belongs here. Thus...the posting:

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/15/us-lockheed-fusion-idUSKCN0I41EM20141015

(The first three paragraphs of the article follow...)

(Reuters) - Lockheed Martin Corp said on Wednesday it had made a technological breakthrough in developing a power source based on nuclear fusion, and the first reactors, small enough to fit on the back of a truck, could be ready for use in a decade.

Tom McGuire, who heads the project, said he and a small team had been working on fusion energy at Lockheed's secretive Skunk Works for about four years, but were now going public to find potential partners in industry and government for their work.

Initial work demonstrated the feasibility of building a 100-megawatt reactor measuring seven feet by 10 feet, which could fit on the back of a large truck, and is about 10 times smaller than current reactors, McGuire told reporters. ...

  4. I saw images of the recently released posters of the 'rebels' from the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Part 1) and was struck by how the layers of the image(s) lined up to give the appearance of wings on the rebels.

Thus I found myself taking a second or two to generate the attached (modified) image of Natalie Dormer's character Cressida, and have begun playing with what sorts of specs might fit such a character...

    Thoughts?

  5. I've toyed with something similar for my still unfinished and unplayed character Sekkou. While I don't have any of those notes at hand, at initial glance/thought I'd say that:

**Increased Knockback on Strike(s) (as Hermit mentioned above) is a worthy idea. You could modify the idea of the Wuxia '1 inch punch'....

**Following up on the '1 inch punch' perhaps you could justify some form of modified 'Nerve Strike' as well.

**Knockback Resistance (as Crusher Bob mentioned) is also useful and reasonable. As would be a resistance to being thrown following being grabbed by an opponent.

**The Martial Arts move 'Trip' could be used as a gravity related martial attack, under the supposition that the PC caused a 'gravitational cliff' to be formed which resulted in the target tripping.

**Perhaps some form of the maneuver 'Joint Lock' as well?

Beyond those? Well, based on the range limitation....herrrmn.

BTW, when you do get a set of maneuvers worked out, please share them here so that all of us who have grav based character types can steal....errr, I mean examine them.

  6. I had not seen this posted yet so....

This story fragment, while still unverified, never the less offers a variety of possible plot hooks - such as artifact, cursed item, etc. And while it could show up in a Pulp Hero or other genre scenario(s) I thought it had the best fit here:

This is the archetype spy in popular media.

I like this, especially because while the point total(s) are a bit higher than I recall, this generally reminds me of some builds for such characters that floated around my particular gaming group back in the days of Espionage! ....Oh, such nostalgic memories.

  8. For your consideration - an older version, within the same basic cost range you mentioned, character sheet by Sam Bell from The Great Net Book Of Real Heroes:

    http://www.sysabend.org/champions/gnborh/text/She-Hulk-sb.txt

And another version, from the same source, character sheet by Matthew Ignash:

    http://www.sysabend.org/champions/gnborh/text/She-Hulk-mi.txt

Granted, these are (from the information I can find) 4th Edition builds...But still worth a look, IMNSVHO.

  9. Just had a thought, and since my copy of 5th Ed is not at hand I'll throw it out here:

If something like this were to be used as a form of 'regenerating shields versus physical attacks' in a near future-ish scenario, what sort of cost modifier would you give for it, given the (as described in the original paper) long recycle time?

    -Carl-

  10. I just had an idea pop into my head for a Teen Hero character:

Basically an homage to Cap, but rather than an adult he is "just a kid". Not a sidekick, but an aspiring hero in his own right, he has somehow (the full backstory is still being developed) ended up as a youth in the modern day world.

I think it might be interesting to mix the issues faced by a youth of today with the idea of a 'person out of time', etc.

Most of the build is pretty straightforward. I've already been toying with a Golden Age Hero concept that I'd be importing large portions of for this so the characteristics, skills, etc are fairly well fleshed out. But I admit that I am still working through what sorts of Disads I might add to give him the 'flavor'  that I am seeking. So I put it to you assembled: any thoughts on appropriate Disads for such a character?

    Thanks.

    -Carl-

  11. As far as campaign concepts go, personally I find # 5 and # 7 most intriguing. And admittedly # 8 could be a fun romp as well.

If real life didn't present certain challenges with any potential posting schedule....herrmn.

Color me curious: How many players are you looking for? And what sort of posting schedule would you expect, etc? Because I have a couple of characters (from other campaigns at Hero Central) that I'd love to see get some use again.

    Herrmn yet again.

    -Carl-

  12. Speaking of sources from The Internet Archive, you might find some use from this:

    https://archive.org/details/clutchcargocartooonscollection

It's episodes from the late 1950's cartoon homage to action pulps and serials known as Clutch Cargo.

And for some 'slightly pulpy sci fi', there is also this: https://archive.org/details/SpaceAngelCartoonsCollection

  13. While not directly a Hero product, if you are okay with 2D versions of your heroes you might want to look into the classic Cardboard Heroes. Basically they are images that fold in such a way that they stand up by themselves, though I am certain that other mounting methods are also feasible. The imagery is drawn by folks like Jeff Dee, and Denis Loubet. I am a fan of them because 1) they can be stored flat (or flat-ish) when transporting gaming supplies, 2) are lightweight, and 3) they are generally inexpensive.

Steve Jackson Games still markets some versions, sold as PDF files, so you can print at will. Here is the link:
