  1. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Thank you. It's a TWAAAAAAAAPPP!!!! Oh. This one was so much fun to do. This was commissioned by a loving wife for her husband's xmas gift this year. Full oils. His very, very first character, who happens to be star wars. After getting the description, this image leapt to mind immediately, dunno why, sometimes that just happens. Sometimes I have to find the image while I work it out on paper/canvas.

  13. Re: Daily Art Findings This is an oil painting commission I've been working off and on during the last couple of weeks. A Forgotten Realms Drow. Finally dry enuff to slap on the ol' scanner. I'm quite pleased with how it came out. I owe Alan Pollack huge props for letting me come over to his house and watch him paint for a few hours. I took several of his techniques and materials when doing this painting and it was the most fun I've had painting since art school. So much easier that my usual struggles. I think this would make a nice cover. It has not been published. So, if anyone has a need for a drow on a cover, let me know. It will be a lot cheaper than commissioning a new cover. storn.cook@gmail.com

  16. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. No I don't. But I really should look into that. Which one are you interested in tshirt wise? The Shang Chi one? A couple of battlin' babes. First up is Lioness for Death Tribble. Next is a flying, brick, type super with a police background. 17. Re: To all the artists on the boards Here is the big tip that started me well on my way for digital coloring. I, too, scan in either line art or pencils. I much prefer doing line art that ol' fashion way... brush and pen. Line art is easy to color. Coloring over pencils not so much... UNLESS you know this tip... the "multiply" layer. Setting a layer to Multiply keeps the pencil while you color over it. I usually have a layer above the Multiply one that is "Normal" which I paint on where I do NOT want to keep the pencil line. But often, pencil line I want to keep... here is an example of digital over pencil... I learned this from Sketch magazine several years ago...and it revolutionized the way I work digitally. In credit due where credit is due category.
  18. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. This watercolor and gouache on watercolor paper about 10.5 x 15.25. The Master of Kung Fu goes up versus The Hand. Kung fu vs. ninjitsu. If Bruce Lee was the definitive model for Shang Chi in the 70s, I pushed towards an older guy (he is a master, after all) based more on a combo of Donnie Yen and Jet Li. I had the idea for doing a bit of sequential fight choreography the day after I put up the challenge. I knew I had to slap it down.

  20. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Gotta say, I do like Navarone!
  21. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Something a bit new for me today. My friend Aaron has been after me for months to do this weekly challenge over at Ten Ton Studios, a comic book forum (link here: http://www.tentonstudios.com/forum/index.php?topic=4816.0) Well. Nexus is one of the cooler outfits in my opinion and it got me off my duff to participate. I've also been meaning to return to doing some acrylics. So, I killed two birds with one stone today. And here is Nexus...
  22. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. That was very intentional on my part. Dunno why. Just seemed to make a strange pic even stranger. Like there is some kind of dimensional thing happening inside that giant body.
  23. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Here is a villainess for B's Champions game. Kinda like the slinkyness of this one. And here is a milestone. This is Death Tribbles FIFTIETH commission. It is an odd one, I'll paste the description I got here so y'all can see how fun and strange this one is.... the speedster part really threw me. from D.T. >>A transparent male human shape run like a Q ship with little figures on the inside manning a gun where the nose should be and others throughout the body. The little figures should not be distinct. No missile pods, just guns like battleships of yore. One hand should have two of the fingers, probably the two after the thumb, as these guns. This hand will be on the horizontal. The other hand can be pointing down and you could keep obscure this one so people cannot see it. Other guns would be above the naval about rib base on one side and below the naval and above the groin on the other. I am not thinking that guns in the groin area or down the legs would be a good idea. No guns pointing out of the back if the back is visible. The little figures should appear to be human. The body can look like a base with fuel storage and lifts. No hair. Neuter the figure for decency sake. Figure should be in motion either going left to right or coming out at the reader like Speester. But let's talk about this when you get to it. No radar or radio attenna outside the human shape.<<< And this is whatjaget after comes through my noodle. 24. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I don't. Y'all do.
  25. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I really don't want to open a can of worms. Commissions are a side gig for me, and that means I need to turn them out pretty fast in order to make it viable to do them. Keeping my pricing simple is part of that. When I had tiered prices, my business was actually less... it confused folks, and more work to do on my part (submitting sketches and such). If anyone wants a situation where they get sketches submitted, then tweaked, then resubmitted, then go to finals... that is what I do with publishers. And therefore, ya gotta pony up to publisher's rates. I would charge $100.00 per figure to do it til it's "right". If you are interested in that... please contact me at Storn.Cook@gmail.com
