Re: The Last Word Mitnoy, our cat at the time, was a remarkably patient creature, but even he got annoyed enough at times to try to time a buzz-pass right and leap to catch the incoming bird. That, of course, caused many more alarm calls and further buzzing....

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well, the counter to all way-out cosmology/theoretical physics fringe ideas is to ask: what possible observable consequences are there from these ideas? If you're greeted with shocked surprise, or rude dismissal, then the answer is "None". At which point it's exposed as just theoreticians w*nking away on some whacked-out idea.

Re: The Last Word Heck, I've been harassed by little birds like that. When the barn swallows insist on building their nests under the eaves right over the patio door, it gets annoying that they panic and attack any person or cat who passes through that door all spring & winter.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I'm not sure I've seen that discussed in that form before. It touches on something called the anthropic principle (the weak form), which is almost tautological. Physicists spend more time & energy thinking about a vaguely related item called Maxwell's Demon, which gets you more insight into thermodynamics.
