Cancer was one of the original illustrators and game designers for the paper and pen rpg, "Tunnels and Trolls"...and as a child, he peed on the Berlin Wall a couple of years after it went up.

It's a lot more fun than explaining to a student why he got a 16 out of 100 on an exam without being explicitly insulting while suggesting that he actually come to class and read the textbook for a change, which is something I did a few minutes ago.

Just about everywhere is nicer than Yakima. I can think of a few places that aren't ... Ypres in 1915, Pulkovo Heights in 1943, McGuire AFB at all times for all history, Jornada del Muerto in late July 1945 ... but you have to look hard.

Not actually news, but a very interesting article. Who'd have thought?

About the Doppler effect, and the closing assertion that because of it, images of stars moving through space are elongated in the direction of motion.

This one may be neater for me.  I tried out a panorama last year while up at the Grand Tetons.  Didn't have the things lined up right and it just didn't work with the tools I had at the time.  Since then found Hugin, which is a Open Source Panorama sticher that pretty much most of the work for you. -> http://hugin.sourceforge.net/
