  1. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread My boy likes cars and fire. I am proud.
  2. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "I don't understand Maxwell's Equations! Vector calculus is too hard!"
  3. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Okay, I take back my previous advice. What I recommend you do now is put your truck in a sack and drop it off a bridge into the river. Then go buy a new used truck. That works.
  4. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER And if that doesn't work, then it could be a bad starter, which would be... bad. You might check all the fuses too, I've had it happen on my car where I hit a pothole and broke the starter fuse. I kid you not.
  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings Not much... it's the Leaping you have to watch out for. That, and the Teleport. I've found widows in places where to this day I can't figure out how they got in.
  6. Re: The cranky thread So it's the first working day after sunday's server room meltdown. My phone and email are blowing up with people demanding that I bring up their 'critical' machines, but of course, the a/c is still busted and if I bring all of it up, the server room will melt down again. Meanwhile, there's a run on demo gear, since word got around that we have 'lots' of demo gear available, when in fact we have less than half a dozen, and they're all booked until end of year. And I got people riding me because I'm not done with their powerpoint yet. I got news for you, folks, if your frickin' powerpoint can't wait, do it yourself.
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Hey lady, I know it's not my place to criticize how other people raise their kids, but you know, taking your five-year-old boy to see American Gangster--what the fk were you thinking?! Did you really think that a movie about organized crime and drug trafficking would be nonviolent? That it wouldn't include graphic scenes of murder and execution? And even so, maybe the first ten seconds of the film might have tipped you off, and then you could have taken him out of the theater and gone somewhere--anywhere--more appropriate. It actually ruins my enjoyment of the film to know that you did that to your kid.
  8. Re: Musings on Random Musings Lemming, listen! And understand! That black widow is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.
  9. Re: Musings on Random Musings IIRC there are wolf spiders everywhere. Everywhere.
  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings Sounds like a cane (wolf) spider. They charge their food to catch it, but they have some really poor depth perception. More than once I've been 'attacked', the spider will charge out of its hiding place and then stop six feet away, thinking, "Wait, I shoulda caught it by now... how big is that thing?" Which is about when it gets stomped into the carpet.
  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings I'm not up early, I'm up late. There's a difference.
  12. Re: The cranky thread I was really looking forward to going to bed early tonight, for once. But one of the zillions of messages in my email before I went to bed was an overtemperature notice from one of the boxes in the data center. How over? I wondered. Well, the ambient temperature in there was 120 degrees. Uh oh. So I log in and start shutting down the non-critical boxes, hoping to keep the place from overheating. But as I shut down the last of them, first the DNS server goes, and then everything else. Now I'm sitting here in the living room, way past when I was tired enough to go to bed, waiting for the A/C repairman to call me back. But judging from what my guy tells me is the error message on the A/C unit, it's not the kind of thing that's going to get fixed tonight.
  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Does it turn over at least?
  14. Re: Musings on Random Musings I believe I can fly. I believe I can touch the sky.
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Why is the NyQuil so much more effective than the DayQuil? The ingredaments are almost identical. Could it be...?
  16. Re: The cranky thread That's pretty good. Here, when someone gets hired, I'm lucky if I have any advance notice at all. So I can set them up with webmail and intranet access in maybe an hour depending on fires, but it takes at least a week to get a new laptop through channels, and then it has to get configured.
  17. Re: The cranky thread (cue banjo music)
  18. Re: The cranky thread You know, this makes it sound like you have a grand total of four teeth.
  19. Re: The cranky thread I wish I could breathe through my doze.
  20. Re: The cranky thread Sick again. This is at least the sixth time this year.
  21. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER That is always the number one issue paintballers have with airsoft, and all I can say is that in ten years of off-and-on airsoft, I've never seen a cheater firsthand and only heard of a couple. I have no explanation, that's just how it is. Even in games that are played for prizes. Cheating just isn't a big issue.
  22. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER The mess and expense of paintball are the biggest reasons I switched to airsoft. Not that paintball isn't fun, of course.
  23. Re: A Thread for Random Musings So we thought the toddler was sick, but the pediatrician said it was probably allergies. Well... now we know.
