Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Exactly. If they reduced ammunition carried to a couple dozen rather than a couple dozen thousand, then there would be a lot more movement and aiming and a lot less suppressive fire.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER You're going to have to give me a rundown on XBall, a quick Google search just turns up a bunch of links for XBall® brand paintballs. But I don't think rule changes are what's called for so much as better camera angles and maybe tracer rounds. And some kind of real ammo limit so that the game doesn't devolve into bunkerball.

There is also "to secure or attach to an object", "to assemble or prepare, as in a meal" or "influence the outcome of by improper or unlawful means". None of these are more correct, but all are more amusing.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER The type of paintball where gaily-dressed men run about on a field amongst giant balloons, firing balls of paint at one another with paintball guns. This was maybe four months ago. Whatever I was watching looked like plain old paintball to me. It wasn't good on TV because you can't see the paintballs in flight, you usually can't see the shooter and target on the screen at once, and every team's strategy was "camp and shoot lots of paint".

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER The really big culprit is Siebel, followed by a couple of other CRM software mfrs. These clowns code for IE and nothing but IE, and then dumb@ss CIOs who don't know any better buy it for any website that requires even a marginally complicated back end database. So although I have 98% of my company on low-maintenance Macs, I have to support Parallels or VMware or Virtual PC on all of them, with Windoze licenses, just so that everyone has a copy of Windows IE6 they can use to use vendor configurators or bid on gubmint contracts. I have yet to see any of these sites done in a way that couldn't have been done better in PHP/MySQL or (if it was reeeally complicated) Javascript or even Flash. Siebel has to be one of the bigger scams going on in the IT industry today.

Re: The cranky thread Broke down? Wrong fuel shouldn't really break the car so much as require that you siphon it out and put right fuel in. Not to say that it's impossible, though. Highway driving is easy. Fast, yes, but it's all in a straight line. Lane changes are iffy but if you can look over your shoulder without reflexively turning the wheel in the process, you should be fine.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings You know what throws me off? Cartoon terrain. All cartoons have the same terrain. GI Joe, Transformers, Robotech, Pokemon, Samurai Champloo--every one of them takes place in a mostly barren wasteland of dirt and rock formations, without even a weed in sight. Once in a while, for a change of scenery, an episode will occur in a forest in the wilderness--one that's perfectly level, with trees of identical appearance and height, and no undergrowth unless they're looking for something small. Cities? Swamps? Ravines? Streams and rivers? Tall grass? Not here.

But I'd missed him; he'd gone out drinking with the sales guys. The good news is he'll be in a much better mood on monday. The bad news is now I get to stew about it all weekend.
