  1. Re: DEX: and the Marvel Universe

One has to wonder why someone who disagrees with almost everything in the rules' date=' treats everyone who plays the game differently them himself like crap, and never has anything good to say about the game, company, or fans even bothers to play the game.[/quote']

Who knows. Hopefully he's got it all tweaked out to his personal tastes in his game. I'm just not gonna worry about it, personally.

  2. Re: DEX: and the Marvel Universe

I think the only problem with the CU chart is that there are no Superhuman dexterity characters in the mainstream CU. If no one has above 30 then Superhuman is really a meaningless and confusing category. For that reason alone I would have made the cut-off for Legendary at 25. That way you can see there is something special about the 26+ dexterity characters. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing some over 30 dex characters in the game. :)

Yeah, what we need is Rainbow Archer (35), Pantera (35),Mongoose (33) and the Whip (33) to come back. Oh,and we could kick good ol' Fiacho back up to his 33 Dex glory. Or Thok. I always liked Thok. Superhuman Strength and Dex, bullet-proof and a whopping 8 Body. Good times, man.

  3. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord

But my point is there's no game implication. With 2 body Joe Normal can still run' date=' jump, crawl, swing a baseball bat, etc. There are no rules in Champions for being reduced in body. You can say he has a ruptured spleen or you can see he has a bruise. Both are valid.[/quote']

Depends on where he took that 6 Body. If you look at the optional Impairing and Disabling rules, you can assign penalties to the joker who thinks running around freely at 1 Body out of 10 is perfectly ok.

  4. Re: Stranded in the Past

Hmm. Y'know, that whole thing about time-travellers and their knowledge of technology always bugged me. How much does your average guy from today know about distilling alchohol, carding wool and blacksmithing? Heck, could they build a steam engine? Why would someone from, oh, say, the 30th century know how to slap together early 21st century tech when he's used to programming the nano-vats to fabricate everything or relies heavily on energy field manipulation. To swipe a comic example, pre-pre-Reboot Legion character RJ Brande made his fortune building stars while the version just one prior to current built a series of stargates for galactic travel. We're still banging rocks together, comparativelyHow many of programmers are still well-versed in the older programming languages today, let alone whatever they'll change to in several more generations of development. Set someone who's exposure to computers is all post Win95 in front of a dos prompt and they're gonna stare blankly at it.

Sure, I know it's a staple of the genre, but it's one that always gets to me.

  5. Re: DEX: and the Marvel Universe

For some reason' date=' if memory serves, Marvel Super Heroes RPG gave him an unearthly agility.[/quote']

This is the same RPG that gives Captain America's indominible willpower as a Psyche ranke of anything from Good to Amazing depending on just which book you look in.

  6. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord

Actually you're mistaken. Thor always did Shift X damage with mjolnir. In 2e he could do Shft Y. And I'm hold a copy of Avengers Coast to Coast in my hands right now and it says the Hulk has monsterous strength' date=' amazing resistance, and 190 health. :)[/quote']

The worst part of it is that depending on just when they wrote any of these stats, Thor can be found to have anywhere from a Monstrous Str to Unearthly &wear his belt of Strength that enhances it one more column shift His defenses are just as wonky. Originally, he was given Excellent rank Body Armor but once the true Invulnerability power was created they reset him to having that at Excellent according ot the Gamer Handbooks of the Marvel Universe. Said power causes a reduction of incoming damage by the power's rank in column shifts. An Excellent now would grant -5CS to incoming damage meaning that even a Class 5000 hit would downgrade to Shift X damage while a wallop from the Hulk degrades from Unearthly to Excellent, meaning Thor takes but 20 points.

Naturally, the same writeup this power was given in lists Thor at a base of Monstrous while the later Avengers boxed set gives yet another set of stats for him. Sigh.

  7. Re: Help me with my plot for my next session!

Well, to keep the thumb twiddling to a minimum, have Titan be sprung by rebels who need his help in some anti-Omega operation. Build yourself some rebels with something approximating the power level of the other heroes and let the other players run them. At the end or near it, you send Titan home. If you want him to feel pretty heroic, let him kick butt a few times. If you want him angsty or angry, just pop him home secure in the knowledge that without him, this is now a suicide mission. Instant hate for the uber-villain.

On the homefront, whip up another problem for the other heroes to tangle with as they strive to locate thier lost buddy. as there's seldom any thing as vicious as a PC handed a villain and told to go to town, do just that with Titan's player.

'Course, the other suggestions here aren't bad either.

  8. Re: Marksman's Arsenal

Hmm. Nice expansion to your previous post on this VPP construction. You have a few more arrow types and you gave everything clear descriptions to avoid the 'huh?' that always happens when an outsider looks at your shorthand terms.

Is this still a 75pt VPP?

  9. Re: O.m.a.c.

    Hmmm...

Psych Lim. (common, total) = 'Must make complicated plans to destroy/defeat/inconvenience superhumans, even when this has been shown to be ridiculously stupid and a terrible idea'

    Or just maybe...

Psych Lim. (common, strong) = 'Cannot escape terrible repetitive scripting, acts only at derivative writer's behest'

That'd give Batman an Ego check to have the occasional cool and original storyline. Hmmm... maybe with a couple negative CSLs on that check?

Hmmm. That might just work. :)

  10. Re: O.m.a.c.

No offense' date=' I have no problem with you being critical, but you seem awfully ready to jump on the writer anytime anyone posts anything about recent events in comic books. If you don't like it, don't read it. But it seems entierly unfair to judge a book based on the incomplete tidbits you glean from the forums.[/quote']

Actually, I did read the comic in question. Still want to know why Diana was losing to Medusa. Admittedly, I hadn't read the issues leading up to it, but I don't see why Medusa was presented as a credible physical threat to Diana. If Medusa was enhanced at the time, did WW know her current capabilities? I mean, she must have since she didn't turn to stone. Is there a reason Diana didn't bring a burlap sack to cover Medua's head? Yeah, it would remove the final personal combat, but that's not a problem to me. Regardless, most of the time I"m still gonna come down on any writer who needs to dumb down a character to make his villains seem threatening.

As to taking offense, nah, I seldom take offense from anything said on the internet. I don't know any of you so whatever personal opinions you form really don't mean much to me. No offense to either but what I say really matters not a bit. Only thing I do, regarding comics is vote with my wallet. I do buy a fair number of comics each month and have for several decades now. As a result, I do get irritated when writers wind up reinventing the wheel when they take the helm of a character. Sure, I'm judgemental, but when something seems to me to be ignoring a fair chunk of comics history, my inner fanboy starts frothing at the mouth.

Anyway, I don't see any further joy to be had in talking about current WW plotlines, so I'll shut my mnouth for a while.

  11. Re: O.m.a.c.

I'm not familiar with Nightwing killing Medusa.

Rucka's use of Medousa ties directly to Greek mythology. The only person prior to Diana to behead her, was Perseus.

Medousa was resurrected at the behest of her two sisters, by Circe. She went after Diana because, like Perseus, Diana is Athena's Champion.

So, like others have said, it's good that the best tactic the Champion of the Goddess of Skilled Warfare and Wisdom can come up with is blinding herself. She couldn't have dropped a dumpster on Medusa and beat it like a drum?

  12. Re: Character Critique II: Catwoman

Selina is a master thief first and above all else so should have a greater ability in security systems, lock picking and the like than is currently listed.

Maybe the Dark champions "security ghost" skill or something is in order for her?

    QUOTE]

Nah, she's good, but she does get caught on occasion. 'Sides, the write-up he has gives her a 19- in Lockpicking and 18- in security systems with her levels and tools added in. She also has PS:Burgalar to make supporting rolls with.

I suppose she could be given KS: Locks & Security Devices representing her familiarity with pre-existing setups and the idiosyncracies of various manufacturers & designers.

  13. Re: Character Writeup Critique: Black Widow (Natalia Romanova)

No' date=' she just doesn't use the gear anymore because cold war era tech at this point... it's archaic, has seen too much action to be reliable and she presently has no way of getting updated supertech, so she sticks with more conventional gear.[/quote']

Huh? Between Stark and SHIELD, I'd think she'd be all set to update occasionally. 'Sides, if Falcon can get tech upgrades from the Black Panther, you'd think Natasha could too. -shrug- Well, the writer's the one in charge, not me.

  14. Re: Retcon Waves Destroy Continuity: Film At 11!

Dude' date=' yer bummin' me out. Not that it's not all true (to at least some degree), but still...just cut it out and let me have my escapist fantasies.[/quote']

Don't worry, these fits only hit me once every couple months. Now I've vented and won't harp on it for a while.

  15. Re: Character Writeup Critique: Black Widow (Natalia Romanova)

I'm not a long time fan of Natasha, so I'm only passingly familiar with what she is fully capable of.

However, I've read her most recent series and let me simply say that lots of stuff has changed. Her background has been retconed and she's not using the Widow's Bite --claims she hates the heavy things, that it kept breaking and that she got tired of having to fix it mid battle-- or any of the rest of her high tech gadgets.

    I hate retcon.

Well, is she just shooting people like in the Ultimates, then or is she delivering painful beatdowns through liberal aplication of fisticuffs?

  16. Retcon Waves Destroy Continuity: Film At 11!

Actually, what makes more irritated than anything else is this business of not smacking the writers in the head when they decide to retcon comics. I really don't care one way or the other how "kewl" or "relevant" a story is, if you have to set fire to the past to write it. Am I supposed to be impressed that Jean Loring is now a deranged murderess 'cause she wants her man back after divorcing and dumping him years ago? Am I supposed to care when the Scarlet Witch spends 30+ years becoming a strong-willed individual only to have a slash&burn pulled on her "revealing" she's been warping reality all this time? Am I supposed to be other than annoyed that Dr Light is now a physical powerhouse that the Flash can't pound into ground chuck in a microsecond just cause he is shown to have raped Sue Dibny. I don't care what level of psychotic glee he's feeling, Barry should have been able to beat him like a drum, let alone what Hawkman could have done if violent head trauma is called for. Ralph would have wrung his neck like a chicken or done what he's threatened before and ripped Light's lungs out. (This was in an old issue of Blue Devil in a news interview about his public ID, BTW)

Heck, now it's been shown that the Savage Land interferes with Wolverine's enhanced senses and Spider-Woman's brain cell usage. After all, suddenly Wolvie can't track people in the Savage Land? First time for everything I suppose. He apparently has forgotten what Cap, Spidey and Iron Man look like as well, but never fear, Spider-Woman, who's know Wolvie for years can't recognize him either and wrenches the arm with three metal claws extending from it around and stabs Wolvie in the throat with his own claws before belately figuring anything out. Gah!

And another thing, why is Batman more worried about the superheroes than the villains? "Oh, if Superman were to lose control he could kill hundred and thousands of people! Maybe. Y'know, like, it could happen." Right, Bruce, but let's not worry about any of the bad guys out there who are already killing hundreds of people. Remember the Joker? You know, pasty white skin, grins a lot, kills people like a fat guy eats fries. Messily and with little discrimination as to people's sensibilities, that is. Couldn't pony up a few thousand to lo-jack the Arkham inmates just in case they go carrying on in high spirits as they are wont to do? "What's that, Joker has gotten 20 feet from the asylum grounds and is convulsing and vomiting from the control chip in his head? Good. Toss him back in his cell."

    Feh.

  17. Re: Character Critique II: Catwoman

Hmm. That's a really impressive history there.

Anyway, does her current costume only defend against energy attacks, and all energy at that or is it even moderately bullet-proof? As it stands, it's apparently not only fire-resistant but cold, electricity and generic energy resistant as well. If it's only fire, you might toss that limitation on there.

You might upgrade her lockpicking tools to a more rounded set of tools including Security Systems skill bonuses and such, representing her equipment for circumventing more than just locks surrounding her loot-to-be.

Adding Legsweep might be useful and simulates her using her whip to trip people up

Swinging could be increased to 8" in the multipower to increase it's general utility.

  18. Re: Character Writeup Critique: Black Widow (Natalia Romanova)

Hmm. Interesting take on the Black Widow. I do have some suggestions, since she's on effectively whatever points you want to give her.

The explosive belt would work well with boostable charges to simulate multiple discs used at times.

She certainly rates Defense Maneuver 1-4 as she's seldom at a disadvantage against a group of mooks/agents/ninja/whathaveyou.

Her Widow's Bite multipower should also have a standard EB as it's often been shown to damage objects and knock people around as well as knock them out. If you don't want to go too hi-powered, an 8-9d Eb should do the trick, though as she's dropped the occasional tougher opponent as well, boostable charges would go well here too.

You might also increase her Con to 23, she's pretty resilient.

She'd also do well with Analyze Combat & Teamwork to reflect her experience at working in teams and as a leader for the Avengers

  19. Re: Mad and Stupid... with a touch!

I mean really' date=' y'all saw Yoda. Even without his light saber, and presuming you knew nothing of the Force, do you really think you could take him if you were a schoolgirl?[/quote']

Heck yeah! He's like the size of a lawn gnome. Barring something clueing me in, I'd try for a field goal between the trees of Dagobah! Lousy little freeloader, eating my emergency rations! Yeah, yeah, I already know that being in a Star Wars universe means that if I've got any force potential, I'm going Darkside in like 3.2 seconds.

    And Superskrull wins the No-Prize!

I know my Ranma fairly well. 'Sides, first time I saw Ranma was a fansub of the Nekonron movie. Happi was my favorite character in that sucker.

  20. Re: Mad and Stupid... with a touch!

Anyone? Oh, and this will be easier for some; given my fondness for anime, can you guess who this is for?

Sure, it's probably Happosai. That seems like a lock due to your handle here.

As to how to enrage someone, you could I suppose, do it as a Mental Transform, moderately low dice, since it is cumulative. Touch, touch, frenzied snarl and all that. Afterwards, the conditioning cuases you to over-react to comments and Presence attacks such as waving lingerie and requesting a show. Recovery could be had by pounding the creep into the ground and then being given time to cool off.

Presence attacks do have that desensitization problem on thier own.
