  1. Re: How to build: Targeting Computer

For x/n ray vision just use it as an adder to a sense instead of a separate power.

    A targeting computer is simple

+x OCV ranged (5pts per) OIF -1/2 (battlesuit) only for suit weapon systems -1/4 (or -1/2)

For electronic survailence you need to add ranged otherwise you'll only spot guys who ping you with thier radar.

  2. Re: Amalgamation Hero, let's create new Heroes from old ones

    Vortex

Rose Monroe was raised by her daughter with no knowledge about her father. When she became a teenager she found that she was able to control the very winds about her. Already a natural athlete and training in the martial arts She combined her natural athleticism with her mutant abilities and Vortex was born.

As Vortex her most common power trick is to whip up mini tornadoes that wield a large number weapons that she carries upon her person making her a literal blade storm.

She has recently found out that she is the illegitamate daughter of the assasin Slade Cain.

  3. Re: Character: Admiral Dame Honor Harrington

In addition to her speed I'd also bump up her PD as she full contact spars on a very regular basis.

Her empathy seems to be something that she is learning to do on her own.

For her disads the Rivalry you could easily keep after Field of Dishonor, dropping it down by 5 for the next Earl of North Hollow (Once she's got her new rank he's less powerful to her.)

  4. Re: Looking for a new cape. Can I get one here?

75/75 puts you at action movie star ability, super powers cost points. 150/100 or 200/150 give you a good superhero and at the 200/150 level it gives you plenty of ready made villans you caan use courtesy of Hero games.

As far as the # of points superman is part of it is how he is statted up and what the person doing the writing figures the power level of the character is. The superman clone in the viper book I might be wrong about. Susanno's page has 4 different vesions of superman going from 250 to 1700+ points.

One other thing to check out it a cap on Defenses and active points for attack powers, you can build abuses even with 250 points if you have some munchkiny ways.

  5. Re: Looking for a new cape. Can I get one here?

Oka in answer to the questions.

    1:

Superman: actually there is a character in the Viper handbook that pretty much is a super man clone and come in at about 1000 points.

Robin: A current incarnation Tim Drake could be done in the 275-325 point range but you'll probably be missing some minor stuff

Spidey: I can make a starting level spiderman for 350 points (350 being the current starting total for heroes).

    2:

Character points are rewarded at the end of session or arc depending on the GM. For sessions I (as GM) generally reward 1 for playing 1 for good RP and 1-3 for major plot complications overcome.

    3:

In general disadvantages are bought at creation and will up to the limit increase the number of points you have. You should not that the point levels I've given above would be the characters plus disadvantages and xp/villan bonus (villan bonuses are basically xp for villans so they conform to the build rules for standard supers) Starting level Spidey is actually 200 points plus 150 in disads.

You can get disads later but they are generally not worth any more points (although some GMs will give you new disads to cover "startup" costs of forming a group and building a base) If you lose a disad through game play you have 2 choices 1: buy it off with XP or 2: convert it into annother disad.

    4:

In general it's pretty hard to kill someone in Champions unless you work for it, combatants are far more likely to get knocked out than killed if they are up in the 350 point range. Yes people can die but it's rather rare.

As far as rules go, I use the standard rules and they are relativly leiniant about actual death.

  6. Re: The Munchkin Build Contest

And while we are at it, another munchkin using Fuel Charges.

Flaming Jet 2d6 RKA: Continious (+1), Increased Stun Multiplier +2 (+1/2) (75 Active Points); 1 Fuel Charge Lasting 1 Minute (-3/4), OAF (-1), Power (-1/4), Visible (-1/4), Delayed Phase (-1/4). Limited Range (25" or Less; -1/4). Total Cost: 25 points.

You hit once, it keeps hitting over and over again doing 1d6+1 on the Stun lottery giving you a minimum of 4 stun damage on a bad roll and 24 stun on your average roll.

Just one little nit pick, RKAs are visible anyways.

  7. Re: World without Menton

Throw one of these out just to mess with them.

Have Bush start acting hyper smart and very humanitarian.

    Have Foxbat act sane.

Have Bulldozer become a kinder caring super hero without a trace of his previous misogony.

Have some other villian reform after one of these only to find out that he was just faking it in order to gain some trust.

  8. Re: Re-Imaged Hero(ines)

*The TV cuts over to a news desk while the words 'SPECIAL REPORT' flash on the screen in from fo the news desk. The camera slowly pans twoards the news anchor leaving a picture to thier right showing a downtown street completly torn up in some sort of battle.*

"This just in, a sudden attack on a downtown bank by the Masters of Mayhem was stopped by what appears to be a lone teenage girl. Reporter Kirk Michaelson has the story, Kirk?"

*The screen cuts to a reporter standing near an overturned car, Police and Firefighters hurrying around behind him moving people and wreckage.*

"Less than an hour ago you couldn't tell this street apart from any other busy city street. That all changed when the Masters of Mayhem literally blasted thier way into the bank behind me. They quickly broke into the vault and took a large sum in cash and bearer bonds. As they left the bank they began to indescriminatly attack the bystanders on the crowded and now hopeless gridlocked street. It was at this time something unexpected happened and from reports it seems that ..."

*The reporter is interupted by someone off camera and a quick conversation is held. At the end the reported points to something behind the camera and can clearly be seen saying the words 'hurry' and 'go'.*

"Ladies and gentelman we have an eye witness video of what happened when the Masters of Mayhem left the bank, we will have it on your screen in just a second ... and here is the footage."

*The screen changes again to a view from across the street and several stories up from the bank, the image grainy and shaking. Several of the villans are firing at the nearby cars explosions and chaos drown out all dialgue except for that of the cameraman. Three of the villians eldow each other in a jockular fashion pointing down the street at a large snarl of people and cars. All three point thier hands at the tight knit group and torrents of energy erupt from thier hands and streak down at the confused bystanders.

The camera pans to follow the path of the bolts of energy strait at the panicing bystanders, then suddenly when the bolts are only feet away from striking the suddenly veer away as if yanked on the end of some string. All three bolts strike a teenage girl in a silver and yellow body suit, her face is hidden by a full face cowl. She walks out into the street interposing her slim frame between the crowd and the villians. As she walks out the camera zooms in on her and arcs of energy crackle and pop about her body.

Annother torrent of energy leaps from the hands of the villians and are again sucked into the body of the young woman. A short exchange is made between one of the villians and the young girl. The young girl then unleashes a blast seemingly composed of several different kinds of energy, striking near the feet of one of the villians scattering them like bowling pins. Streams of energy rolled off the teenagers hands and began to repeatedly strike at the assembled villians. The villians quickly scattered making thier escape. The teenage girl quickly disapeared into the crowd. The screen then cuts back to the reporter.

"From eye witness reports Burn of the Masters told the young woman that she didn't know what kind of power she was dealing with to which she responded 'I am power'. Whoever this ... Power Girl is she certainly backed up her claim, back to you in the studio."

  9. Re: Best and Worst Costume/Appearance Changes

    Good costume changes:

Tim Drake's Robin costume from the previous, pants he has pants!

Black Canary going back to the "classic"costume after the mid 80's

Black Canary getting her Birds of Prey Costume

    Bad costume changes:

Black Canary's costume new costume in the middle 80's with the huge white bucket boots and the 'wing' insigna on her chest that reached out past her shoulder.

  10. Re: WDYCD: Secret ID

I assume that's supposed to be Spanish for "Little Jaguar". If so, it's "pequeño".

And actually, if she's the Global Guardians character that I am thinking off... well, they speak Portugese in Brasil, not Spanish. As such, I believe it would be "onça pintada pequeno" or perhaps just "pintada pequeno"... not sure, my Portugese sucks even worse then my Spanish ;)

I do know we've had some native speakers here if you wanted to verify that though...

Thats what I got for a translation into Portugese but it could very well be wrong as I don't have any access to any good speakers of the language at the moment.

  11. Re: WDYCD: Secret ID

Jaguar Pequino is Lycanthropic and gains over a foot in height and 120 pounds of muscle when she changes.

Corona Wears a wig and colored contacts to make her look more like a famous hero (her origin is almost exactly the same as the other). And she does actually cover most of her face with a cowl further covering her face.

Thrum Hasn't done anything yet that would require her to protect her identity(PBEM game that she's in is still in the 'meet the others' phase)

  12. Re: What Would Your Character Wear? The Costume Party!

Corona Actually I had already decided that she would be attending any Halloween festivities dressed as Honor Harrington, completed with cat attached to the shoulder.

Thrum Depending on her budget for costuming she would be either 1: Slave Girl Leia or 2: A night elf in the skimpy style of Sentinel armor.

Jaguar Pequino would surprise everyone she hangs out with (either in civilian or hero ID) by showing up in an elaborate Carnival costume complete with huge feathered mask and skimpy sequened clothing. And of corse a long heavy cloak to keep her Brazilian bod warm as anything under 80 degrees is a cold wave as far as she's concearned.

  13. Re: Wanted - Comprehensive Western Martial Arts Design

    Flos Dueletorum:

    Joint Break

    Martial Block

    Martial Disarm

    Martial Escape

    Martial Strike

    Offensive strike

    Takedown

    WE: Blades

    WE: Polearms

    WE: Unarmed

    WE: Clubs

    WE: Staves

WF Common Melee Weapons (BTW in a fantasy/Medevil setting staves should really be in this WF tree)

    Riding

Flos Dueletorum is the semi-official name of the fighting style codified my Fiore De Liberi in the manual of the same name. The manual has 9 sections dealing with wrestling, dagger, arming sword, bastard sword, armored combat, dagger and stick, polearm, mounted combat and disarming. This would probably constitute a 'generic' build for the style.

  14. Re: Single Green Superhero seeks.... (personels for your characters)

Is it just me' date=' or are we seeing a distinct lack of personals here written by superheroines?[/quote']

Given the looks of the average superheroines and you average male, how many offers do you think they get when they are not posting personals?

Of the four characters I wrote adds for 3 are female and two wouldn't be posting adds on thier own. One get way to much attention as is and one is actually a bit shy when not in her heroic for. Just the way things are for them.

  15. Re: Alternate Swords, cuz Katanas are overdone!

Try that with most hand and half swords and you'll be lucky to keep your fingers - few (if any) hand and half swords had the blunted section of blade (properly called a Ricasso). This is a feature of some late medieval greatswords, but although I've seen very many real hand and a half swords, I have never seen one with a ricasso. Hand and half swords are slightly heavier, but not a great deal longer in the blade than simple longswords/broadswords, so a ricasso is not necessary

Actually, late medieval/early renaissance rapiers are generally much heavier than the modern versions we see more frequently, and a slashing cut with the tip (the top few inches of the blade) was quite capable of cutting throats, removing fingers or dealing disabling and potentially lethal cuts to groin, arm or thigh - as long as your target wasn't armoured. The first book on rapier technique- Opera Nova, written in 1536 by Achillio Marozzo de Bologne, devotes most of its techniques to cutting strokes. Rapiers of the 16th century still had blades that were 1 - 1 1/2 inches wide at the base, and look like lighter versions of the longsword with a slightly elaborated hilt. This *was* a battle weapon and was widely used together with a buckler by spanish soldiers. It wasn't until Saviolo (late 17th century) that the point becomes the preferred method of attack and it's only after this that the rapier gets both a lighter (and shorter) blade - and only after this it becomes basically a dress/duel weapon, before evolving into the smallsword, which essentially replaced the rapier in the 18th century.

True most bastard swords didn't have a ricasso but there are illistrations in Fiore, Meyer, Tallhoffer and others where they are fighting half sword. Most of the blade really wasn't sharpened because you didn't cut with the lower half of the blade so what would be the point in sharpening it and making it more prone to cracking.

The earlier blades you metioned are classified as side swords and yes Marozzo and Silver both wrote about the uses of the weapon.

  16. Re: Alternate Swords, cuz Katanas are overdone!

Rapiers were not originally civilian weapons, they became such. The first rapiers were designed to thrust into the weak points of full plate armor.

I think your thinking about an estoc. A rapier by cross section would flex and possibly break if used against armor and you missed a joint (which is quite possible). Also the intricate hand protection of the rapier is the product of civilian use and any good soldier would be wearing hand protection, where as any civilian would need some sort of hand protection as armor was not the thing to wear around town.

Also I have never seen a historical treatise for the rapier that examines the use of the rapier against armor. There are several treatises that examine fighting an armored opponent. The weapons used generally involve mass weapons (axes maces and picks), half sword and morte schlage techniques, pole arms, thrusting daggers and wrestling.
