  1. Re: Since CoH is gone... Well COH is still running, the severs are supposed to keep going until Nov 30. NCSoft has halted all development, laid off/shut down Paragon Studio, shut down the ability to make purchases on the game but the game is still running.
  2. Re: I Replace your Reality with My Own! (Power Ideas) He replaces the air around the target with air from another dimension that's toxic. (NND Attack, defence doesn't breath/immune to gas selected, etc.) The one where he removes the wall by replacing it with nothing sounds like Desolid usable against others (defence being hardened defences?) Porting a cage over the target is obviously entangle. Turns the ground the person is standing on into sand (Drain running) Turns the ground the person is standing on into ice (Change Environment -X to Dex, linked to Negative skill penalty rolls Dex rolls) Replaces "bad air" around the target with breathable air (Life Support usable by others). Drops an anvil on target's head (EB, physical, indirect (from above target) Rain of fire - brings in rain from another dimension that is made of fire. (AOE EB, indirect). Changes the earth's rotation around him (TK only to push target forward). Transplants the temperature from another dimension (change environment, perhaps linked with a drain to CON, and STR to represent sapping one's strength and endurance due to heat exhaustion, or a DEX drain if it's a large drop in temperature and the target is shivering) Dump a bunch of water over top of a fire based character (Drain Fire Power Effects, or perhaps Dispel or suppress if doing specifically to a force field or another constant power) Removes attacks that are hurtling towards the target (Missile deflection works on others. or perhaps a really strong force wall with the FX of the attack is shunted away). I would suggest building this an an VPP or if you want to limit the amount of on the fly power creation a multi power with tons of slots. and you just come up with a huge amount of things he can do.. If using a VPP I would suggest having him make a KS: Alternate Dimensions roll in order to be able to chose the correct spot form the correct dimension at the right time to get the effect he wants. Obviously he needs to know a massive amount of dimensions rather well in order for him to do this. Unless this is more of an instinctual power and he just decides what he wants to happen and his mind/power just finds the perfect dimension to use.
  3. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... So what you are saying is you had Bug Boy cruelly force his insect friends to play in toxic filth which certainly led to their painful death... Dude, not cool...
  4. Re: Champions Whoops, I must have mentally switched the words when I read that.
  5. Re: Champions What does the revised version have that the first printing didn't?
  6. Re: Call for Replacements Yes, that's what i'm looking for. The element(s) of the character that makes you want to play him. I find that it helps me get a better handle on the character if I know what attracts the player to the character. It can help me pick up on the little things that make the character interesting that I may not have picked up on just from the character sheet/background. It also makes it easier for me to make suggestions on changes to the character (so that I don't suggest changes that take away from the hook, or so that i think of changes that could improve on the hook). It also helps see how well the character will fit in the group (extreme example for illustrative purposes: if someone's hook was "I like that he's a borderline psycho and I want to play a character that crosses the line of hero/villain." then he's not going to fit with the Justice Squadron. ) and whether the player will enjoy himself in the game. (ie. if the character hook is being the team's only scientist, the player probably won't enjoy the game since there's already two characters that fulfill that role especially if stats wise the new character doesn't come close to the level of knowledge as Victor and Valeria. )
  7. Re: Call for Replacements And a reminder to post your character's hook. So far the only character hooks that have been posted are Quantum's and Silk Detective and Wrath's.
  8. Re: Call for Replacements I would like for the players who have submitted characters to post their character's hook. What I mean by that is what is the hook, the thing, that makes you want to play your character? What aspects of the character really attract you to him/her? What's the hook that makes the character important to you? For example, one of the hooks for my character is that he's Dr. Doom's son, with everything that entails. Victor was brought up as a noble, he's an aristocrat, a perfectionist that expects a lot of himself and those around him and is a bit arrogant. While at the same time he is trying to prove himself, and redeem the family name and to accomplish that he has to be the consummate hero.
  9. Re: Call for Replacements At the risk of stepping on the GM's toes... 75% Dam Reduction seems like overkill to me. Granted i'm not that experienced with Damage Reduction since my main group rarely uses them (15 years ago the GMs more or less brow beat us to not use them because it made figuring out balancing harder than it was worth) but from what i've seen even 25% really makes a character with good defenses hard to put down. I'm thinking a character with 30 PD/ED and 50% Dam Res. is the equivalent of a character with 50 PD/ED. With 75% Reduction... I'm not sure what that scales up to 70 PD/ED? Add the high REC to that and the guy will be nearly impossible to put down. I'm also a bit concerned about the whole takes half of his body and goes nuclear thing.. Considering who we are up against, getting down to half our body on a regular basis isn't entirely out of the question. Outside of that I like what I see... Although I think I preferred the First draft better (maybe take the first draft and make that one 45 STR, keep the variable FX EB since that's a nice touch...) Tough call since draft 1 is more of a pseudo brick than a true brick.. But then again since so many of us are pseudo bricks perhaps Valeria is enough of a brick anyways if one of the new PCs can soak a lot of damage. Bit of a fair warning though compared to Valeria and Victor (and to a lesser extent Spider-Lad) Quantum is at best an amateur scientist. So if being a scientist is your character hook...
  10. Re: Call for Replacements That or the two characters we lost were bricks... It's not like we are completely deprived of high strength characters. Valeria is a stretching brick (60 STR, 30 PD/ED with 50% Dam reduction). Spider-Lad is a pseudo brick since he has the resistance of a brick but the SPD, and DCV of a martial artist (plus martial arts). Wildcard is a pseduo brick at 40 STR, 30sish def but is centered more around Gambit's powers than Rogue's (or really Ms Marvel's since he doesn't appear to have inherited Rogue's absorbing powers) Victor is almost a brick with 40 STR and 30s defence but his low (for the group's power level) Stun and concentration on his EB's makes less of a brick.. Really the only character currently on the roster who isn't brick-like is Moon Knight. But all of us pseudo bricks are focused more on our non-brick aspects than our brick aspects. Which is why we are thinking a pure brick might be a good idea. But really, as a player in the game, I'm more interested in good quality characters than what power set is brought to the table, and whether the concept and personality fits in well with the team. Also a player who is good at role playing, will be active and won't leave would be another selling point We are after all the Justice Squadron, so we really should be looking for the best of the best, or at the very least characters who are on the cusp of becoming the elite. So i'm sure Victor is looking for experienced, proven heroes who will mesh well with the current team, preferably bringing something to the table that we don't have (which really, considering our wide range of skills and powers is going to be hard).
  11. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG "I'm named after your father. "
  12. Re: Menton is up Never mind Lord Liaden beat me to it.
  13. Re: Menton is up I can't find a pic for Menton, nor one for Ironclad so here's the cover of a supplement which shows at least a bit of Ironclad and Defender.
  14. Re: Menton is up Here's a blurry picture of Defender and I know you didn't ask for him but but here's one for Foxbat as well.
  15. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Considering the time zone you are in... Happy after-birth day
  16. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Here's the balanced version of Victor VonDoom
  17. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG So how does Victor look? Any areas that I have the points wrong, or areas that I need to change before I start working on reducing his cost so he's balanced?
  18. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG If you are going to call me by title it is Prince Victor VonDoom or Dr. VonDoom if you must be less than accurate.
  19. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG I found some mistakes in the character sheet so he's the latest version of that. Plus my first draft for Victor's background.
  20. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Here's the pics for Victor. The first one is with the Hood (which I like since it really drives home the connection to his father) the second is without the hood which makes him look a bit more like a hero but lessens some of the Dr. Doom connection. I'll start working on his background after I take a bit of a break. Hopefully I can get at least a rough background done before I fall asleep.
  21. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Took me a lot longer to get working on the character, and I had some issues with my system while doing his sheet. So I wasn't able to get his background done yet, and he's not balanced. But I thought I would post his sheet so that you can take a look at him and propose any needed changes before I spend too much time playing with the numbers to get him balanced. He's 20 points over but I suspect that I have over spent on some areas (like his Contacts and perhaps his languages) that might shave some points off. (For instance is his contact with Latverian Government really worth 27 points? Same deal with his UN Contact and his Fringe Benefits). Also it's not showing up in the doc file but his second reputation is "Hero to the people of Latveria". (side question does that +4 rep mean his Latverian Contact roll gets the +4 to it?) Anyways let me know what you think. I made some changes so I removed the files and reuploaded them. See my later posting for the files
  22. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Great. I'm a fairly busy today and tomorrow, so it might not be until Sunday before I can get my first draft for the submission in.
  23. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Can I use him for a character idea? I was thinking Victor Reed wants to further improve the family name by becoming a super hero and decides the best way to do that is to join the new Justice Squadron. I'm thinking a bit of an arrogant, high minded person who has a tendency to look down on others (him being of noble blood and all of that), expects a lot out of people (perfectionist, expects people to match his high expectations) and can be a bit condescending, patronizing and judgmental. But is a hero at heart. Also as far as I can tell you don't have too many scientists so far submitted so a gadgeteer/technological genius would be a great addition to the team. I'm not sure if he would be an experienced hero or just starting out (leaning towards the experienced). I would probably go more with the technology side and only a little magic if any. Obviously a power armour character, possibly some robotics thrown in (perhaps a robot follower or two depends on how the points shake out). More ranged energy attacks (something that I think the team needs as the bulk of the submitted characters are melee types). Tons of science and invention related skills. His hero name could be Victor. Or perhaps he'd just use Victor von Doom, in order to keep building on the family name being associated with heroism and distancing it from his father's criminal past. I was also thinking of getting him into Stark Industries in some way. Perhaps he is hired on in a major position to make use of his expertise. Amanda Stark must be getting fairly up there in age... Merging Dr. Doom's costume with Iron Man's armour would make for a nice inspiration/starting point for his costume. Although it might be trying to cram too much into the character.. Thoughts?
