  1. Re: West Coast Sourcebook I'm trying to keep it a mix of about 30% mystic, 30% tech, 30% mutant, and 10% everything else.... The Spirt of San Francisco actually exists (game-wise)-she has her own morning talkshow. ;-) There's always been a Spirt...the last one died during Lorma Prieta, a rough-and-tumble man of some power...now it's a woman.

  3. Re: West Coast Sourcebook One thing that'll be interesting about San Francisco is two of the heros-the Spirt of San Francisco and Mr. Mad. The Spirit of San Francisco has always been around, in a sense. It was what gave Emperor Norton I the protection needed to give San Francisco it's reputation. It protected parts of the city so that they could grow into true communites-the Castro, Haight St, Nob Hill, Russian Hill.... Now, it's avatar walks the street-a lovely woman whom can be anywhere where the City touches (she can leave the city-but when she dies, she always reappears back in City Hall), but knows everything.... Mr. Mad was born in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake-when some buildings fell in the Marina district...one of them was a DEMON sacrifice site. The crushed body of DEMON worshippers and the botched sacrifice summoned a vengence spirit...that fused and was stuck to the sacrifice. Now, if Mr. Mad can kill 1,000 truly evil beings, he'll have the power to destroy DEMON forever...if the hero's don't have a problem with a mystical vigilante (whom has the Sense True Evil) whom disembowels people...just to begin with.

In the current game universe I'm working on, magic is (and isn't) derived from the same source of energy that everybody else uses...just how it's handled is different. Most magical training is designed to unlock doors in the wielder's mind-by sensatizing, augmenting, and enhancing the inherent abilities that all sapient beings have-but released in a controled, coherent matter. Demonic pacts are nothing more than "breaking the door down with explosives", while proper training is "I understand now how the door works, why it works, how the mechanisms of it work-and I can improve upon it." Most incantations, chants, fetishes, etc, etc, are a combination of crutch and circuit breaker, designed to make energy handling much, much easier.

  8. Re: West Coast Sourcebook The idea is that it'd be a VIPER-sized book, with San Francisco taking up the majority, but the rest of the Bay Area getting a report (including the Napa and Silicon Valley area). Oh, and plenty of heroes, villans, and weird things....

  15. Re: Ultimate Wonder Twins Okay, here's how I'd do the Ultimate Wonder Twins. Zann and Jayna and their pet monkey have been infected/assimilated by a Kryptonian nanotechnology system, formerly used for "adaptive" battle armor. Zann got the weapons nanotech (which he can only use as "forms"), and Jayna got the adaptive armor system (which she can use to turn herself into creatures that could physically exist. She can't become a dragon, but she can become a T. Rex.). The monkey is the sensor/communications system. In Champions Terms, Zann would have a linked VPP/Transform with a "no ranged attacks" modifier, and Jayna would have a linked VPP/Shapechange with a "only to simulate creature effects" modifier. The monkey has every sensory multi-power known to man, and Universal Translator with the disadvantage "everbody hears him say 'Gleep', but they know exactly what he's saying." Zann and Jayna's powers run off of an END battery, which they can only recharge by touching-the more skin contact they make, the faster their END battery recharges. Dirty minds might be able to contemplate how they could supercharge their powers.
  16. Here's an interesting question- Marvel calls you one morning. They want you to take somebody that was second-tier in the original Marvel universe, and "Ulitmate" them up to serious first-tier status. You choose which comic they'll run in, initially, but they'll segueway into their own book ASAP (within about six issues of their first appearance). Only two conditions are- 1)Has to be "second tier"-no Ultimate Punisher yet, or somebody that's had their own long-running series. 2)Has to fit in well with the rest of the Ultimate Marvel line-up. I have a few ideas, but I'd love to hear yours.
  17. Re: What would you character do... Ghost Sniper-They're all dead. They just don't know it yet. They would all be found, one at a time, dead. With a slug in the sniper's triangle. The Hammer-As the avatar of John Henry (whom beat a machine, at the cost of his life), he'd get people together to take them down. Hard, and fast-as those who would take freedom must be destroyed.
  18. Re: I love The Ultimates The campaign that I'm doing (eventually) draws a lot upon the Ulitmates Universe concept for the high meta-concept of superheroes. Of course, most metas are barely three years old, and they're still feeling their way through all of this....

The land-developer guy seems to be the Campaign Master Villian, collecting members of the 4400 for some undisclosed purpose. And when the couple went to have the baby delivered, the trees bowed to the car....
  20. Re: The Mystic World Only real complaint about Mystic World is that there aren't any mystical heroes, or any techo-mages (people just as competent with the gear as the grimorum). Otherwise...you do need better art in the books.

There has to be a few things in it- 1-At least two "on the cusp" Master Villian (with or without teams to back them up) if the Campaign Universe loses somebody like Dr. Destroyer, Takofanes, Menton.... They have to be UNIQUE Master Villians-a techno-magical gadgeteer (a'la Dr. Doom) or a gang made up of uplifted animals. 2-At least two "on the cusp" Super Villian Teams (a'la the Crowns of Krim or Eurostar), ready to really hit the Big Time if you can throw Fiacho into a deep enough cell or grave. Like the Master Villians, they have to be unique and fun. 3-A wide variety of villians from the "mercenary super-solider" to "it's fun to steal stuff".... 4-Foxbat needs his crew again. Has to be there.

  23. After First Advent, the New York Institute on Metahuman Phenomina (IMP) has made a long, categorical list of the nature and level of heroes that have come into existance. What complicates this is that several nations (China, Iraq before Gulf War II, Iran) keep how many and how powerful the numbers of metahumans that exist secret, while some (parts of Africa, Asia, South America) honestly don't have accurate mechanisms to report metahuman apperance. With these caviats: IMP categorizes metahumans by two categories-full-fledged metas and "one hit wonders" or single-power metas(whom have one power or a group of very tightly bound powers). Some of IMP's critics argue that their categorization ignores "augmented normals" like the Bombadeer Beetle in New York or similar metas, but the numbers are fairly clear. So far, the ratio of single-power metas and full metas is ~4:1 to 5:1, depending upon cateorization. New meta apperance is on an approximite 6 month basis, with some appering between a month before and a month after that six months, but mostly appearing within that time frame. Meta apperance seems to "cluster" as well-they either appear in large cities, or in areas in close proximity to large cities, or they move for one reason or another to large cities. The First Advent on 9/12/01 revealed 50 full fledged metahumans, in five cities-New York, Tokyo, London, Beijing, and a vague point between Tel Aviv and Jeruselum in Israel. First estimates were of 40 metahumans, as China clamped a massive news blackout on metahumans within their territory-with the exception of Jackie Chan (whom accidentaly revealed some speedster and damage resistance powers), China maintained denial of metahuman activites within it's territory. Second Advent, 3/9/02, showed another 100 metahumans at full power and added five more "apperance" cities-San Francisco, Kyoto, Paris, Shanghai, and Johannasberg. The first confirmed apperance of "one hit wonders" also started to appear, and five metahumans from First Advent were confirmed KIA, raising the total number of full-powered metahumans on earth to 145. Third Advent, 9/11/02, had 120 metahumans appear, and three more "apperance" cities-Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Moscow. With the death of the Furies in Northern Oregon and several other incidents, metahuman totals were at about 220. The first organized "superteams" started to appear at this time-the United States Section One, England's Home Guard, and (estimated) China's superteam under the control of the Ministry of Internal Security. Fourth Advent, 3/10/03, had another 180 metahumans appear, and only two more "apperance" cities-Atlanta and Baghdad. With the largest uprising in the Gaza Strip, and American military activity in Afganistan, metahuman totals reached 370 known (an estimated 10 metahumans disappeared or otherwise vanished). Fifth Advent, 9/11/03, was a massive surge-270 metahumans, three new appearance cities (Berlin, Osaka, Seattle) and massive amounts of metahuman casulties, including some of the most powerful First Advent metas (The Covanant was "presumed lost" after an explosion by the Human Bomb in Gaza, several American metas fell in combat operations in Afganistan, and the Hand of Set made it's first-and bloody-apperance). Metahuman popualtion on Earth has reached ~600, with the uncertanty being over the number of metahumans in China and Iraq. The last Advent, Sixth Advent on 3/12/04, showed 400 new metahumans and two new apperance cities-Sydney and Rio De Janero. The number of metahumans in Iraq was confirmed as well-nine. Three of them died in Gulf War II, facing off against American metas, three defected (one to Syria, two to Iran) and the remaining three either offered their services to the Iraqi Provkisional Authority or to various miltia groups in Iraq. Total metahuman population has reached ~970, with the largest concentrations being in the United States, Japan, and England. China, still, remains a mystery-most estimates place metahuman population in China at ~70, with a small number of anti-Communist metas operating in Hong Kong. China's official policy line is that metahumans are a "capitalistic plot to derail the Revolution" and "public" metahumans cannot get visas to enter Chinese territory. However, it is an open secret that the Chinese government has metas-mostly serving in the Ministry of Internal Security, with a small number in the People's Republic of China Army.
