  1. Re: The cranky thread I wonder how many o f those "champions" of self-sufficiency would still feel that way had they not been born with a $10 million trust fund waiting for them when they turned 18?
  2. Re: Musings on Random Musings Wait a sec... a sensory power built on a base power that is not, itself, a sense? That's almost as bad as trying to divide by zero.
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Thanks to this heat wave, I now have a new keyboard... one which has brought me one-step closer to the Dark Side™ of becoming a hardcore online gamer.
  4. Re: Answers & Questions Q How would you greet an old friend who happens to an abscessed tooth with a knack for geometry? A: Yoga, not yogurt.
  5. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What made you think the hippie had gone over the deep end? A: Not the Chippendale I had in mind.
  6. Re: Musings on Random Musings No matter where you go... there you are.
  7. Re: Answers & Questions Q: How did you train your cat to come when you call his name? A: Not very deep.
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
  9. Re: The cranky thread Sorry to hear that. Though it does make me wonder why you planning to travel to Portland on your knees in the first place. I mean, if they weren't shot before the trip started, they sure as heck would be by the time you got there...
  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Reminds me of a moment in a 3.5 D&D Campaign I ran... The party is lurking in wait to take on a Mind Flayer. In preparation, they all drink potions of Owl's Wisdom to buff their WIL saves. Having drank hers, the half-orc barbarian now has a modicum of wisdom, prompting her to exclaim, "Oh my gods! We're about to take on a Mind Flayer! What, are we crazy!?"
  11. Re: The cranky thread I do now, and that's really good knowledge to have! Thanks for the tip
  12. Re: The cranky thread You may be right. But just for giggles... try relocating the PC a few feet in random directions to see if the reception improves and/or the enxt time the PC cannot connect, try using the laptop in the same physical location as the PC and see if the WiFi connection craps out. Interference can sometimes be localized.
  13. Re: The cranky thread I hate WiFi. Even with the very best routers and WLAN cards, they are prone to interference. As is so perfectly illustrated here...
  14. Re: The cranky thread I once had chronic off-again on-again problems with my PC. I replaced the power supply three times and switched out the RAM, all to no avail. But once I replaced my UPS power-strip, lo and behold, no more random bluscreen reboots. Ergo, a good UPS with strong filters against spikes and filtering out "dirty"power might solve a lot of your problems. Granted, if components of the computer have been damaged, they'll need to be replaced, but a good power strip will help prevent them from get damaged again.
  15. Re: The cranky thread The movie Kick Ass answers that question quite... graphically.
  16. Re: The cranky thread She'd have better luck pleading "stupid". At least that would be believable...
  17. Re: The cranky thread A dear friend of mine, living in Washington DC, who has been unemployed since early June, and who is presently recovering from surgery, has just been advised by her landlord that she and her dog have 15-days to move the hell out. Unless DC has laws that allow something other than the standard 30-days notice to evict a person, this 15-days bit is pure bull-spit. However, she is still faced with the problem of needing to find a new place to live that is not only pet-friendly, but will take her in while she has no job. I would help her if I could. Alas, the home I am presently living in is not mine to open. The landlord doesn't want pets or long-term non-renting-paying guests, and I have 2 other roommates, so there is no physical room for her or her mid-sized sweetheart of a dog, anyway.
  18. Re: Answers & Questions Q: She said what? A: That wasn't much of a confession.
  19. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Ever since the days of 1st Edition D&D, this monster has also been known as a "land sharK", with "Bulette" (apologies for my misspelling) being the creatures proper name. And to the best of my knowledge, the player was not, nor did he mean for his character to be, German. However, in an entirely different campaign, there was a lady who named her dwarf fighter: Serilde Mundschäumende-Kampfhünd. She wanted a last name that meant something approximately the equivalent of: the frothing-at-the-mouth-battle-bitch. I forget what her original translation was, so I went to a friend of mine online who is a native German, and this is what she gave us. Not only was it a cleaner translation, it actually sounded better as a name.
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Sounds exactly like a a character from a D&D 3.5 game I ran ages ago: A Half-Dragon (bronze)/Aasimar Sorcerer by the name of Mishatalarushenir (aka Misha). The PC gave him the cooking skill, and really played it up. Once, they fought and killed a bullette. Misha wondered, "There's a lot of meat on that thing! I wonder if it's good eating..." The way Misha cooked it, it most certainly was. It was so good, in fact, when Misha took notice of how rotund the local Baron was, he offered to cook up him some of meat for him. It was a hit, and this got the party in really good with the Baron.
  21. Re: Musings on Random Musings Just so long as he doesn't think you'll need to go out and drum up business when things get slow.
