  1. Is Lasts Through Unconsciousness (6e1 355) applied to the Differing Modifier or the granted power?
  2. How is it determined which table of Time Limit modifiers should be applied to a Differing Modifier? My guess is as long as the Recipient controls the granted power, LOS isn’t required, and there are no other disqualifying modifiers on the Differing Modifier, Time Limit can be a limitation. The Constant Powers Time Limit table is used otherwise. Although, I could see how ‘Grantor pays END’ could be an issue. Any insight would be appreciated.
  3. Given that it is legal for a framework with an advantage to contain a Power that couldn’t take that advantage, is it also legal for a Power that could take that advantage not to? 42 Booby Traps: Variable Power Pool, 20 Pool + 30 Control Cost, Powers Can Be Changed As A Half-Phase Action (+1/2), No Skill Roll Required (+1), all slots Invisible Power Effects (traps are hard to spot; +1/4), all slots Trigger (tripwire is touched; +1/4); 8 Charges (-1/2) for the entire pool, all slots IAF (-1/2) 0 1) Smoke Grenade Trap: Darkness to Sight Group 6m radius, Invisible Power Effects (trap is hard to spot; +1/4), Trigger (tripwire is touched; +1/4) (45 Active Points); IAF (-1/2), 8 Continuing Charges lasting 1 Turn each (removed by winds or rain; -0) (30 Real Points) 0 2) Just Throw The Smoke Grenade: Darkness to Sight Group 6m radius (30 Active Points); OAF (-1), 8 Continuing Charges lasting 1 Turn each (removed by winds or rain; -0) (15 Real Points) Is slot 2 invalid because it doesn’t use IPE and Trigger?
  4. Let’s say Kerendor’s player comes up with a rationale to apply Penetrating to Kerendor’s framework and the gamemaster approves. 90 Magical Powers: Multipower, 60-point reserve, all slots Penetrating (+½) 12v 1) Wind Riding: Flight 60m 12v 2) Lightning Bolt: Blast 12d6 3f 3) Wall Of Wind: Resistant Protection (15 PD/15 ED); Costs Endurance (-½) Total cost: 117 points. Lightning Bolt still fits into the Multipower’s 60 Active Point limit, but has 90 AP of effect with the framework’s Penetrating advantage. Is the Endurance cost for Penetrating free (6 END), or is the advantage included in the calculation (9 END)?
  5. Re: Teleporter - Only Pull Wool Over Their Eyes: Entangle 1d6, 0 PD/0 ED (Stops A Given Sense Group Sight Group) (20 Active Points); No Defense (-1 1/2), Does Not Prevent The Use Of Accessible Foci (-1), Set Effect (Head Only) (-1). Total Cost: 4
  6. The text states that if a Naked Advantage includes Reduced Endurance then the NA doesn't cost END, but it doesn't specify Reduced END (0 END). Does a Half END or Costs END Only To Activate NA cost END? Can I make a NA 0 END with a +1/4 version of Reduced END even if the power the NA modifies is already 0 END?
  7. Re: special base powers Don't forget transparent dry erase boards and cork boards.
  8. Re: Small Project: Hero System Intro That should read "roll of 2-5 as +1".
  9. On p354, second paragraph: “If it (the granted power) doesn’t cost END, granting it, cost him no END." Does this apply to Differing Modifiers too?
  10. Re: What If: You were the world's 1st superhuman? With no extra-sensory powers, detective skills, or some other information gathering resources I’d be pretty worthless as a superhero. I would certainly try to help out on catastrophes receiving live coverage like 9/11, might even be able to save the second tower. But with no way of knowing where or when someone with such talents would be needed, I would just try to go on with my life. I’d want to develop a secret identity to protect my loved ones; nothing fancy though. No spandex or flashy colors. Maybe coveralls, gloves, and a motorcycle helmet with a tinted visor. I’m already wary of government bureaucrats and corporate types, so no space program or volunteering my services to the President for me. Maybe a quiet, off the books agreement with the local police commissioner or something.
  11. Re: How Would You Model This? http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/77275 Huh. Ok, I was wrong. Previously on this thread I stated I found The Ultimate Grimoire PDF on the Free Stuff page. That was wrong too. I found it here: http://fitz.jsr.com/roleplay/herosystem.html
  12. 6e p353-360 describes UOO advantages with a constant effect. There isn’t much regarding applying UOO to Instant Powers; references to Teleportation and EDM UAA, Barrier UBN, and Spell Of The Burning Blade on p348, but no definite rule that I could find. I just want to be certain I’m interpreting this right. Sword from thin air: HKA 2d6; UBO (+¼). Total cost: 37 1. Which of the following is true: (a.) UOO advantages are constant. The target can swing the sword as much as he likes. No additional advantages are needed to apply, to UBO, modifiers requiring a constant power. (b.) UOO advantages have a constant effect.. The target can swing the sword as much as he likes. Modifiers requiring a constant power cannot be applied. (c.) UOO advantages effect becomes instant when applied to instant powers. The caster and target must coordinate their actions so the conclusion of the casting coincides with each blow of the sword. 2. Does your answer change if a Differing Modifier were applied?
  13. Re: 5th Edition Healing Welcome. If you go to the Hero Games home page, select ABOUT THE HERO SYSTEM>, and then Rules FAQ, you’ll come to a search engine where you can find such things as: “Can a charcter make his Regeneration Usable By Other? No. By definition, Regeneration is Self Only. If a character wants to buy a similar ability he can use on other people, he can construct it using Healing with appropriate Power Modifiers (which would probably include Uncontrolled and Others Only).”
  14. Re: How Would You Model This? Under Continuing Charges, 5ER p285: "Characters can only use this option with Constant or Persistant Powers. The Uncontrolled Advantage is not required." So the example Armitage cited was a Constant or Persistant power with a UOO advantage. Good to know Continuing Charges can be used to get around Line Of Sight as well as Persistant and Uncontrolled. I'm not sure what this has to do with this discussion.
  15. Re: How Would You Model This? There is nothing in 5ER that either supports my interpretation of the rules, or says definitely that I'm wrong. The only way it could be settled in my mind is if we had an official ruling from Mr. Long, and he stated he would not take 5e questions after December 1st. If someone else could translate the question to 6e and then post it to the Rules Questions forum, I would appreciate it.
  16. Re: How Would You Model This? The paragraph on 6e1 p288 is on 5ER p223 and it is not a build. There is nothing there about whether or not Lingering (or Time Limit 6e) or Continuous are needed for such a build to work as intended. You're getting a constant effect from an Instant power with a +¼ advantage when Continuous is +1. The Ultimate Grimoire PDF has dozens of examples of powers with UOO advantages. All the examples are either constant or persistant, include Continuous, or the spell discription says it has an instant effect. You might still find it on the Free Stuff page. It accured to me how to solve the END advantage conflict: +1d6 HKA, (15 AP); OIF (any bladed weapon, -½) (10 RP) Differing Modifier: UAA (does not work unless target is wielding a bladed weapon, +1); Continuous (+1); Cost END Only To Activate (from END reserve, +¼); Uncontrolled (weapon loses bonus when target is disarmed, +½) (37 AP); Concentration (½ DCV, -¼); Extra Time (Extra Phase, -¾); Gestures (-¼); Incantations (-¼); OAF (magic wand, -1) Total cost: 11 Still I'm curious as to the END expenditure. The caster is only casting, 3? The Differing Modifier is part of the whole power, 1+3=4? If I apply the Differing Modifier advantages directly to base I get 56 AP, 5?
  17. Re: How Would You Model This? UBO is not a constant power, even when you included it in a Differing Modifier. UBO is an advantage you seem to want to apply to an instant power to get a constant effect. Look at all the examples in 5ER. In all of them UBO is applied to a constant power. Look at the index and find all the references to UOO advantages. All of them are to constant or persistant powers. Imagine what this would do: Flight 5", UAA (+1); Instant (-1/2) You could toss someone 5", but hovering and complex maneuvers would not be possible. If there were any limitations such as Gestures or Incantations, they would have to be performed for each 5". And don't bother with Line Of Sight, if you want the target to go more than 5" you'll need Ranged, Usable Simultaneous, or be grappling and/or grappled by the target. Adding Continuous to the Differing Modifier allows you to repeatedly and constantly grant the target an instant power.
  18. Re: How Would You Model This? That's just it. KA has no duration, it's instant. That's why I moved the limitation to the Differing Modifiers that were made constant. So it is an HD thing. Ok.
  19. Re: When sfx lie How about an Achilles invulnerability. Add a limitation that says the additional DCV is not cumulative with the penalties to hit a specified hit location so called called shots work normally. Character gets hit with an AOE, his entire body gets hit including the weak spot. Someone hits over his DCV, lucky shot to the weak spot.
  20. Re: How Would You Model This? First off, Hyperman, I haven’t had a build of my own that required Usable By Other, so it has been a long while since I last read anything about Differing Modifiers. I took one look at your build and came to several erroneous assumptions. I apologize. You’ve applied a Continuing Charge limitation to Killing Attack which is an instant power. Continuing Charges do not make a power constant, they limit constant powers. UBO is the most important part of a Differing Modifier and shouldn’t be separated from it. From what I gather from the thread you’ve linked to, you’re putting UBO in a Naked Power Advantage to make it work properly in Hero Designer. Is that correct? What I understand is Differing Modifiers work like Single Power Naked Advantages, one set of modifiers to one power. I understand you added up the values of the KA and the Combat Skill Level, but I don’t think it works that way. Powers must be Constant and cost 0 END before they can be made Persistent. If I got every thing down right the build should look something like this: The 6 Million Dollar Weapon I: +2d6 HKA (30 Active Points), OIF (Existing Weapon Of Opportunity; -1/2); Real Weapon (-1/4) (17 Real Points) Casting The 6 Million Dollar Weapon I: via Differing Modifier UBO (+¼); Continuous (+1); Persistent (+1/2) (47 AP); 1 Continuing Charge lasting 1 Hour (-1/4); OAF Expendable (Easy to obtain new Focus; Platinum Coin; -1); Gestures (-1/4); Incantations (-1/4); Linked to $6MW II (-¼); Requires A Skill Roll (-½) (13 RP) plus The 6 Million Dollar Weapon II: +1 with HTH (5 AP), OIF (Existing Weapon Of Opportunity; -1/2); Real Weapon (-1/4) (3 RP) Casting The 6 Million Dollar Weapon II: via Differing Modifier UBO (+¼); Persistent (+1/2) (5 AP); 1 Continuing Charge lasting 1 Hour (-1/4); OAF Expendable (Easy to obtain new Focus; Platinum Coin; -1); Gestures (-1/4); Incantations (-1/4); Linked to $6MW I (-1/2); Requires A Skill Roll (-½) (1 RP) Total Cost: 14 points. One advantage I see to using UBO with Differing Modifiers or UBO as an NA as opposed to Lingering and UBO applied directly to the KA is you can use the Continuous Advantage. If you want the effect to last an hour, Continuous (+1) versus Lingering (+1 ½). If Continuous were applied directly to the KA you would get a different effect.
  21. Re: How Would You Model This? First, you're going from: Have to use Gestures and Incantations every single time you hit for -1/2. to: Have to use Gestures and Incantations once, but you can hit as often as you like for an hour for -3/4. Ok, only being able to use it once a day is a trade off in utility, but I'm wary of using a limitation to reduce the effect of other limitations. Second, I wasn't suggesting replacing the entire build with the Lingering advantage, just the Continuing Charge limitation. +1d6 HKA, END only to activate (+1/4); Lingering (1 min, +3/4); UBO (+1/4); Concentration (1/2 DCV, -1/4); Extra Time (Full Phase, -1/2); Gestures (both hands, -1/2); Incantations (-1/4); OIF (any bladed weapon, -1/2); Real Weapon (-1/4) (34 AP, 10 RP)
