  1. This is a pretty cool tool, though it doesn't have nearly enough bodysuit options. I had to make mine a solid color. I can throw it into photoshop and fix that, but most of my players can't.
  2. So Foreman doesn't even use the Precognition power? Ok, I can see all that to simulate it then. That's pretty cool cause, as I said the actual precognition gets pretty expensive and its hard to quantify what it would do for you. Though I disagree that precog would not help him make a free throw. He goes to shoot, sees that he misses and pauses, dribbles once, goes up again and starts to attempt it again. Swoosh.
  3. I don't want to push my luck so I edited this. I will just shut up about this issue now. People always just jump to defense on this site anyway and I don't want to get booted again. Still not buying Hero though. M&M is awesome.
  4. Vondy, I know. To be clear, I never accused anyone of Plagarism. I said it is similar. Plagarism is taking someone else's work and saying it is yours. I was just talking about an idea. And this was WAY before 6th Ed.
  5. Vondy, I agree with you. And I freely admit there were times when I was suspended (banned is too strong a word, I wasn't actually banned, just had privileges revoked for a few days I think once for a few weeks) where I deserved it. But other times (and most times) where on other sites I never would have been, and didn't deserve it. I also agree to give credit to where it is due and though I still have not bought a thing from Hero in years, I recently looked at Champions Complete and was tempted. I like a lot of what I saw in there, and was pleasantly surprised that some of the rumors I heard (like adding a 4th die to the resolution mechanic) weren't true. I have to say Steve did good here. Though, I have to add, as I mentioned in my first post he, himself has not always been that good at doing just that. Even upon receiving proof that I had suggested to Steve directly the ideas that they ended up using, no one at Hero would even suggest to say well it was a good idea. They insisted that they came up with it independently, which may be the case, though with giving the exact same idea to the creator who shot down said idea, only to have himself a few months later does not sound like coming up with it independently. At best it sounds as if he the thought came too him later again in a way that would work how he originally said it wouldn't (though I suggested how they would originally) and he may have forgotten the part where the idea came from someone else. To those that, that sounds reasonable too though, I reiterate, if it were a legal case, where you plagiarized without remembering you did so (again, not claiming this is the case, only comparing it) you would still be found guilty.
  6. Greywind, Sorry, you weren't there. That may be your opinion, but its just not the fact. Maybe it is better now. Hopefully. In the past, I had said just a few minor negative things, had pages of responses telling me I should find a new system, because I was looking for a house rule for a perceived flaw. Or told much worse. And when I would say something as simple as the dreaded L word. (lemmings) I would get banned. Not really banned. That maybe too strong of a word. I would be put on suspension and not allowed to post for a few days to a few weeks. Now imagine my shock when instructed by the powers that be at Hero that me suggesting people blindly following them can be compared to lemmings is WORSE than others telling me I should kill myself because I don't like something with the rules and asking if anyone else felt the same way and had a work around.
  7. Seen X-Men First Class? Grappling would work great if you can forcibly teleport someone with you. Port in, Grab X, port up 40 inches with X, port back down without X. X takes maximum velocity impact damage upon arrival. Completely nullified with flight however.
  8. Without anything else. I have no idea what this would do, other than allow you to react to what the opponent is planning on doing instead of not knowing. Trust me, this by itself ROCKS. (I see him winding up for a big blow so instead of going defensive like I was going to do, I instead make a break for the door and hit the alarm panel knowing I won't be there when his reach into Cleveland is finished.)
  9. These are all good suggestions, however, I usually determine with the immense cost associated with Precognition built like this (80 AP, and that's not counting if you want to hear as well as see) that some of this stuff should be gimmies. For instance. By seeing a few seconds in the future if you are searching a building and about to go through a door, once you open the door you will know if there is someone on the other side, or if you are going to activate a claymore or something. So with Precognition and making a perception roll, you should know this and hence know if you have to open the door, or if there is immediate danger beyond the door or whatever. You can simulate this with things like Danger Sense and N-Ray vision so you can scan the room before going through, however, that is sort of ALL implicit in the Precognition in the first place, so I don't think you would need it, since you bought a power that cost 4 times what any of those other powers cost already. PS. Likewise with things like Demolitions, you know that if you cut that red wire things will blow up, so DON'T CUT THE RED WIRE. Can easily work with overall levels based on anything that Precog would help with. I do use that, though it almost shouldn't be needed for some things.
  10. Yeah I thought of that too. Though it is not giving me exactly what I want. I actually do have this too though. I have purchased a multi-gun which does many different types of attacks. Right now I have the empowerment set as a VPP which is limited to buying up to +3 DC of damage with up to a +1 advantage on it. With my multigun, it works out to a good attack, though not overpowering. Though I did want the attack to be set to increase an existing attack, so if I was somewhere without my equipment and I picked up a gun, I could still do better than others with whatever weapon I picked up, though not necessarily as good as if I had my gun, or if I were to get behind the controls of say a ships artillery gun, I would do better with it than other gunners and it would do even more damage than others using the gun. I suppose the way I have it built is the best way I can mimic that. Though Aid would work, if I could make it automatic, say adding a trigger or something. Would still be more expensive though.
  11. I looked at aid. It actually costs more to do the same thing and does it worse. Because whenever you switch weapons you would have to take several rounds charging up the weapon in order to get the maximum benefit from the effect. This would work great if you were charging them based on a power, sort of like Gambit, only if he used an actual weapon instead of cards. Does not work so well if it is based off someone that is based on incredible skill with the weapon, like Bullseye. My idea is someone that is so skilled he can use a pistol to disable a tank, cause he just knows how to strike things to get maximum damage allowing him to damage things others would think were impossible. As I mentioned, it sounds a lot like Find Weakness, but I want it more instinctual than that. Not necessarily based on determining the weakness of a target, but just knowing how to use the gun to do more damage.
  12. Frankly speaking, it depends largely on the writer for almost any particular character. It also depends on your personal definition of liberal and conservative. To many Conservative means not caring, big business and all sorts of other nonsense. To others, it means being responsible for your own actions. Though even those conservatives that are the most right wing still believe in sticking up for others less fortunate, which means those that can't fight for themselves. It is the worst diatribe that thinks conservatives don't think society should help no one. They simply think it is not the responsibility of society to do so, particularly when they can help themselves. Likewise, to many liberals mean the taking money from those who earn it to give it to those that just want to sit on their butts all day and all sorts of other nonsense. To others it means, society should work somewhat like a family, with those capable of better taking care of themselves and others doing so and giving a portion of that which they have more of to those less fortunate and less able to take care of themselves. Both sides have nonsense declared about them both to the far left and the far right. The truth of that matter is that, the nonsensical portions of both sides DO in fact exist, but DO NOT in fact make up the largest proportion of either side. For the nonsensical liberal, there are those out their perfectly able to work, who sit around and let society do it for them, even though they could do better for themselves if they would just try. My uncle is a case for that. He has a 180 IQ, and can type 90words per minute. Though he is a strong liberal and an alcoholic. He has no trouble getting a job, he just loses it shortly after, because he goes on drinking binges after he gets paid and doesn't show up for a week. He knows how to work the public welfare system though, so he either fakes illnesses, or exaggerates existing illnesses. For those that ask, how I know this. As I said, he is my uncle, family knows things. For the nonsensical conservatives, those who pinch every penny, pay anyone that has the misfortune to work for them less than they are worth, and do whatever they can to hide money from the government. Many of these will be employers that will take anyone working currently at full time status, and turn them all into part time workers so they will not have to pay for their healthcare. Though not everyone who does this will fit into that category. I am undecided if Green Arrow is truly a liberal or not though. I think that he is the case of someone who looks out for the little guy, though that concept can be liberal or conservative. The rest for him I think depends on who is writing him, and what the company itself out and out says about him if any declaration is actually made. Though, there are plenty of times when people think they are one political persuasion when in fact they act another. My ex-wife's family for instance, and devout democrats, however when I speak to them about any political issues, they always end up on the conservative side. They are home owners, and they have a bit of wealth, and they are against people taking what they have. That by itself does not make them conservatives, but the choices they make based on those principles put them more often than not on the conservative side of most bills. They always vote for democratic candidates however.
  13. I understand about fanboy or fangirl for that matter defensiveness. I've been on the receiving end more than once. Anytime you indicate that something in the Hero system isn't completely optimal, even though you specify was the best system (and is now only one of the better systems out there). People come out of the woodwork and start yelling at you. I've called them lemmings. I've been banned for that in the past. I've also been banned for responding in kind after someone has yelled at me for page after page of repsonses. They never got banned for that, but when I say something even something tame in response then I get banned. Yes those who own the Hero system tends to take good care of the boot lickers. I will probably be banned for this, because this website does not believe in free speech. That's ok. I've left this game before for YEARS. Not for being banned, but for the reasons I was banned. I've been around the Hero System since 2nd edition, so even longer than you, but that does not matter, unless I am constantly spouting about how they can do no wrong. I've been banned before for stating the fact that I was the one that gave the meaning for the first Anagram for FREd. It was shortly before 5th edition was launched, They displayed the cover and people were psyched. Someone asked Steve Long, what we were going to call the new edition, and Steve said, "You can call it Fred for all I care." I jumped on it and said, "OK, FREd it is. Fifth Rules Edition. It caught on, though it is forgot now, because before the year was out they revised the fifth rules, and the anagram became "Fifth Revised Edition" or FREd still. After that happened, I brought that out, some fanboys disagreed with it, cause there memories are about as long as their fingernail, so I posted a link to the original forum post. (Which you cannot do now, since they are all gone.) Boy that made them mad, cause they couldn't say I was wrong anymore. So I got banned again. The time I decided to leave, probably about 10 years ago now, was after they produced The Ultimate Mastermind. That was an idea they stole from me. Which is too strong, it is an idea I gave them. Steve Long had posted asking for ideas for new Ultimate books. They had a couple at the time and were expanding based off their success. I posted several. Two of which were the Ultimate Energy Projector and the Ultimate Mastermind. Both of which Steve responded too saying they were too genre specific and wouldn't work for the series, since they were trying to make something that worked in more than the super hero genre. I responded that I could see the point with the Energy Projector one, though commented that Energy projectors exist in Fantasy as well. I did not see the point for the Ultimate Mastermind though, cause there are masterminds in every adventure based genre. Steve disagreed, I said OK, and things went on, until they came out with both of them. I commented on the fact that I came up with those ideas, and Steve shot them down. They denied it. Again I posted proof, and they used a lame excuse about them not being able to remember everything that was suggested to them, and that they came up with it on their own. I never asked for anything as simple as even a mention in the book. Cause it was never suggested that that would ever happen. I just wanted a public acknowledgement on the forum, that I suggested it and they printed it, especially since it was publically broadcast that my ideas weren't right for the book series. Technically, had this been a trial for plagiarism, which I want to make known, it is not, the excuse that they didn't remember an idea they were presented with, and came up with it on there own would not hold water, once proof was given that it had been presented to them previously. I wasn't going for any of that though. I just wanted someone to say, 'I guess it was a good idea, cause we used it.' But didn't get that, I got banned again instead for being wronged by the company. So they lost me and all my money since then. I have not bought one thing. I didn't even play the game anymore because of it. I am only back now because someone I know wants to play a Silver Avenger in a game. I actually like M&M a lot better anyways now. So if they want to ban me again for telling the truth, then good for them. You all will see if that happens and you can see if you want to give your money to a company that would behave in such a say to a fan that had been with them for over 30 years. I'll post again in two days on this page if I can, if not, you'll know why.
  14. I am back in Champions after an extended absence, and am building a character. I would like some ideas for. This is a fairly easy one, though I am looking for ways to trim costs and maybe any really creative ideas people can think about. I am looking for a weapon (gun) that can fire many different types of ammunition. I am trying to do it right, so instead of having charges on each individual slot which would make it less expensive (and in some cases more realistic) I am having a set number of charges 32 for the whole multipower with 16 clips. This puts the charges (advantage) on the multipower making it cost more and effectively having less charges overall instead of having something like 4 clips of 8 charges in each built onto each slot of the gun. So that being the case I am having multiple slots, some of which are duplicated based on lethality, IE a sniper shot with no Range penalty as both an EB and a RKA. Auto EB and RKA. AP EB and RKA. I decided against using a AP and Penetrating RKA, and I have many other attacks on there. Such as Flash Explosion, Etc. I have not added a smoke shot on there yet, though that might be good. Going with a more high tech theme, so instead of Darkness being smoke, I may go with Darkness being a field of some sort, such as whiteness, or a distortion effect. I also used an expanding foam shot, which is a simple Entangle and is a better more accepted version of the old Glue entangles. I have some other ideas I have not built yet, that I would appreciate ideas on, such as a Tracker shot, parabolic microphone shot, an audio images shot (basically a speaker that can be used to distract people in an area sort of Obi Wan like from Star Wars. An EMP shot would be great, though I am not sure how to pull it off. I've seen EMP as a massive killing attack that only effects electronics before, though I don't think that is a good simulation and takes a butt load of points to pull it off effectively. Maybe a CE might work better... Any other creative ideas that can be loaded into a gun would be appreciated.
  15. I am back in Champions after a long time away, and am looking at building various powers. This one I have done before, though previously it had been the primary power of a character who was essentially a spy and used gear as most of his other abilities. I have now added a bit more psychic ability to him and am looking at ways to trim it, or do something else to lower its cost. In the past I have used an EC for this with various powers in it. First an foremost was Clairsentience + Precognition. It was only useful for immediate precognition of only a few seconds, and it was always on. This made it a very expensive power, which is only as effective as the GM allows it to be. Cause it starts at 80 APs. It is hard to get it down from there. Obviously I have put on limitations such as Only for a few seconds in the future. And No Range, but that still does not take it down too much, unless you could Only a few seconds in the future as removing nearly all effectiveness away from the power, which it doesn't in my opinion. Effectively it becomes a Super and Perfect Danger Sense. With the only things that can get by it being things that are not immediately noticeable. With this in the EC, I have added things like +5 Overall Levels. Ideally these should be linked to the Precognition, but you actually get more savings for it by having them in the EC than Linking the power (If you'd allow levels in an EC that is, which I did.) Any other ideas for ways to lower costs or maybe tweak this would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I have several powers I am going about building. I have my own ideas, but want others input as to how they may build them. Weapon Empowerment - I am looking at a character that can use any existing weapon at beyond its actual capabilities. The theme could be something along the lines of a super skill, allowing the character to use any weapon at a greater effectiveness For instance if he picks up a 2D6 RKS pistol, he can use it at say 3D6 RKA effectiveness. This sounds simple enough, but if he is picking up other weapons like say, a 9D6 EB with Autofire, I still want him to be able to add damage to that attack as well. This is not based off the defenses of the opponent, but in making the weapon more effective, otherwise it might be simplest to Find Weakness to simulate this effect. My initial build uses a VPP that does not req. a skill roll and can be changed as a 0 phase action, and is severely limited to only add at most 15 AP of damage to a weapon AND to simulate any existing advantages on the attack. I used a 30 VPP for this purpose, so it will be able to add up to 3D6 ND or 1D6 KA with up to a +1 Advantage to an existing weapon. Any other ideas would be helpful. This is my first post in quite a while I stopped playing Champions for a long time for reasons I will not go into here.
  17. Re: Information for HERO/Champions Fans About The Champions Online MMO
  18. Re: Information for HERO/Champions Fans About The Champions Online MMO Wow, I do have to say the game looks good. The new Defender costume looks awesome... Actually, it looks a lot like my armored character does. He didn't have a full helmet either, AND used an energy sword. Though, if the villain in one of the screenshots is supposed to be Dr. Destroyer, I am sorely disappointed in Cryptic's depiction of him.
  19. Re: Information for HERO/Champions Fans About The Champions Online MMO
  20. Re: Information for HERO/Champions Fans About The Champions Online MMO I heard about this, about a week or so ago from a friend on the inside. Though, he wasn't sure if the MMO would use the Hero System for character creation or not. Though, I am still excited for the game, my excitement now comes simply because it will be another Superhero MMO and CoH, though good, has about hit as much as it can without a huge update. I would have rather had an MMO with the Hero rules and a different universe, than an MMO with the Champions Universe and different rules. Really it is the rules that makes the game. The universe is ok, but is a little vanilla and not much different than any other superhero unniverse out there. I mean actually, the CoH universe is just as exciting and actually more unique than the Champions Universe. I'm not taking anything away from the CU, it is good, and I will like fighting the likes of Viper and Dr. Destroyer, but without the rules behind it, it's gonna seem like I'm just fighting CoH versions of those characters, and not the real thing. Though past all that, I figured, this would be the case from the start, so its not much of a surprise. Though, I didn't figure Hero would SELL them there universe, I thought they would license it instead. Maybe this is why Cryptic wanted this in the first place though, as Marvel and DC would never sell their IP to Cryptic. The reason I figured this would be the case is because it would be really hard to maintain balance in an MMO using the Hero System without a GM to help keep things balanced. I mean they could easily implement a rock solid campaign guideline system, and not let people get around it, but the Hero System is so flexible that even with that it would be easy to get around those guidelines and make exceptionally powerful characters. The only way you MIGHT be able to keep it balanced is if each character created was looked over and approved by a real person, and that would be both, way too expensive, and no one would want to wait for character approval. So Congrats Hero... Though, don't get me started with Hero 6.
  21. Re: House Rule of X sort of campaign ground rule True. Sounds like you have a pretty good group of players. Typically, the people I meet and end up having in a group try to push the envelope. If I put end caps on powers they mostly try to reach it. Which is why I enacted my loose and fast Give and Take principal. Basically, I tell the player that they are at the upper limits here, so they have to go lower somewhere else. I might go ahead and just take from your lead, and ignore the CV aspect, as a way to keep my give and take going. If someone is approaching the limit, just tell them that means they can't have as high of a CV. Also looking at other things on the character too. I still manage to keep the group in control and fairly well balanced, but I am just hoping to include a guideline to help them try and maintain balance themselves, so I don't always have to be the bad guy.
  22. Re: House Rule of X sort of campaign ground rule Yeah, I think your campaign is probably the one I read about on a different forum. I like the idea. I think it can help self regulate a campaign. I'm not shooting for total control with a rule, but more of a guideline for characters to look at when designing their characters, and upgrading them with XP, before they show them to me for approval. I'm just thinking that its missing a CV component that will take into account all aspects of offense. The last thing I want to do though is make all the characters the same though, which is why I liked using Spd and DC, and adjusting for CV. The CV limits in the campaign are a loose range of figures rather than a solid figure like Speed. Going with CV and DC and adjusting based on Spd I think will is not as good, because I think it will make players more shoot for that number for all characters. Taking their characters to the limit and then using levels for particular attacks so they can have one attack that doesn't do as much they are really accurate with, one that is slightly more powerful they hit decently with, and another that is really powerful they don't hit well with. Of course it could still end up that way going the other way. So it could be that not including the CV is the way to go. I just forsee a brick with an 8 CV having attacks and speed that equal 20 and a martial artist with the same basic set up, but having a 12 CV, and seeing that the brick could see it as unfair, and the martial artist seeing it as fine, since they should hit more often anyway. I really don't forsee this happening though, cause as I said, I am going to use it more as guidelines for when they bring their characters to me, and then we will adjust things from there.
