  1. Re: The Chronicles of Foxton

I'm just not going to think very hard or long about it' date=' and will quietly go on playing Lady Hawthorne. . . who is even less pleased with the D7 after they attempted to extort money from her.[/quote']

And sex. Don't forget the sex.

  2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Actually' date=' I noticed that Drhoz's game didn't seem to be quite as... deadly as CoC has a reputation for being. He does seem to enjoy stringing the PCs along and in some cases, letting them destroy themselves by hanging themselves with GM—provided lengths of rope.[/quote']

That's not rope; that's nameless entrails.

  3. Re: How Fast an Horse can Go?

I understand there have been recent developments with polymer shoes epoxied on to the hoof' date=' that are better all around than the steel type that's been in use since metal was invented.[/quote']

I've used expoxied on shoes on a horse with weak hoof walls when we were trying to repair a cracked hoof. I've seen those things come off in a matter of hours. The epoxy simply can't stand up to the pounding of a thousand pound animal.

The method that eventually worked for repairing the hoof was to give him a special trim and let him go shoeless.

  4. Re: How Fast an Horse can Go?

Back when I had a horse, I usually caught him by rattling a bucket. I have more willpower to resist the oats than he did.

I will point out that one does not necessarily have to put shoes on horses to improve their performance. I've had better luck, even on hard rocky ground with a good rounded trimming. No more tender feet, yay! Too much shoeing, on the other hand, can really tear up the hooves.

  5. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...

    I finished

I will compare it with other Vorkosigan novels.

Not his worse, but I think that she used a young boy as one of her protagonists was a bit distancing, making it feel a bit too much like a childrens' novel.

Otherwise it was good as usual.

Like Shards of Honor, Cryoburn is a clearly set up for a following book. Unlike Shards of Honor, its internal conclusion leaves something to be desired. I still recommend it though, as Bujold's lesser works are still, heh, Miles above most other writers.

  6. Re: Flame manipulation?

    What edition?

In general, write down the effects the character can produce.

Illuminating a dark area is Images.

    Pushing flames can be Telekinesis.

There is a discussion of Telekinesis moving energy in USPD. I presume it would also be in the 6e equivalent, if it's out yet.

Basically, it's TK Only Works On Fire (-1). The "weight" equivalent is based on the damage class of the flames.

So... what happens when you separate the fire from the fuel?

    Yay! discussing physics in games!

  7. Re: The Economy of Red Herrings

My sleep troubles forced me to nap a bit yesterday and this came to me whilst I was drifting in and out of consciousness. An Images Ring (OIF) with 10 active points is a 6 or 7 real point magic item.

Say you could program the image or a set of them, customizing it for each buyer. Thus, mercenaries put on a Sell Sword Ring when they're out of work, merchants can post basic price lists that follow them around, guides have Wayfinder Rings that produce light, rather than carry a lamp or torch at night. Runes floating above a character's head indicate all sorts of things, and most folks use them as public notice of one thing or another... I even imagine Just Married Rings, Baby on Board Rings for pregnant females and Looking For An Elvish Girlfriend Rings for some lonely guys with distinct taste in women.

The PCs will be immediately suspcious that I'm about to pull something. They'll be waiting for the rings to be revealed as mind control devices, power channels for evil wizards or something...

So the question is, what percentage of the population should have them to make a PC question them? I'm not going to do anything odd or dangerous with them, but I think I want to make the PCs crazy and paranoid.

Cue a million OOC comments about looking for the guy with the "quest-giver" icon over his head.

Seriously, that was the first thing I thought of.

  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From Teh Bunneh's Foxton game. The list of dramatis personae has become rather massive, but these quotes more or less speak for themselves.

Master Gunn, Baron du Clef's master of the forest, is recruiting local poachers to take part in a werewolf hunt (as bait as it turns out).

Master Gunn: You have killed Norman

    Poacher: Who's Norman?

Master Gunn: The Deer. Didn't you know the Baron has started naming them. He was very fond of Norman

Poacher (Wailing): We didn't know it was Norman!

Master Gunn talks to the baron's huntmistress, Featherlight Yewstrong.

Master Gunn: Would you like to go on a dangerous hunt.

Featherlight: "Dangerous hunt. " Two of my favorite words and so very close to each other.

Master Gunn: How do you feel about Lycanthropy?

    Featherlight: Giving or receiving?

Nikki, an insane druid, tries to seduce Quion, the baron's clerk, who is the world's most sexually repressed human being.

Quion (OOC): She only knows two spells: Mordickain's massive innuendo and groping hands.

  9. Re: Icons - The Costume and Superpowers Store

I shall. Right now we are discussing character creation. Hero's creation rules has one of my players feeling quite anxious. I will be handling the gruntwork part of it with Hero Designer while they describe what they want.

I fand that GM intervention in character creation is frequently necessary even with (or perhaps especially with) experienced players, albeit for the opposite reason. "No no no you cannot buy followers on a focus!"
