  1. Re: [Campeign Creation Project] Pirates of the Naebbirac Astroid Belt You cannot have 4 stars "orbiting each other." It would not occur in reality. You can have a pair of closely-orbiting stars "over here," another such pair "over there," and have the two pairs orbiting each other at a distance much further than that "within" each pair. Laser-cutlasses! It must be laser-cutlasses! Laser-swords are either toys for fops, or much too long to use in close-quarters combat. Not Agutrot, but the Aciamaj cluster, especially Ogetnom, is the center of piracy. Following the ideas of Sundog, from post #2. There is only one "transit station" just within the jump-permitted area. Its name is Amanap. "Aye, laddie, 'twas 50 cycles ago that the greatest pirate of them all, Captain Hank Nagrom, raided Amanap, and came back with all its wealth. Aye, them were great days, great days. Yet, 'twas but 12 cycles later that scurvy dog Nagrom took the Corpcouncil's silver and came to Ogetnom as the 'governor' if you please! Cleared out the Bretheren of the Rocks from all the Aciamaj cluster. O' course, once Nagrom died, we comed back to Ogetnom and here we still be. Arrr."
  2. Re: K Universe: Earth's Powers era war gear Note #1: Boing! Boing! Very rubbery science. Note #2: What is GPF, what is GFE? One should define acronyms before using, please. Range Skill Levels are to be preferred. The Entangle is quite weak. 3 or 4 dice would be better. Better yet, EB, STUN Only. Attack Versus Limited Defense (AVLD) is to be applied to Mental Defense, Flash Defense, or Power Defense (excepting with GM permission). You would be better served with two levels of Armor Piercing, or one of Armor Piercing plus one of Penetrating. Repeat my last note, please. What is an "Air Target"? What is "Decreased Re-use Duration"? Repeat my last note, please. What does "PCU" mean?
  3. Re: Planet Template Susano: Thank you; I shall look for it. BobGreenwade: The top of which page? There is nothing named "Submissions" at the top of the page I am, right now, looking at. As well, "Classification" is upon page 92 of Star Hero, in the gray box at middle and lower left.
  4. Re: Planet Template Is that available as a download, or must one write for it?
  5. Re: Moreau Techniques That sounds more like Asimov's robots than Wells' creatures.
  6. Re: Making colonization attractive?
  7. Re: Making colonization attractive? I don't mean to insult, but this has said everything needed. All posts since are, IMHO, commentary, or denial. We WILL enter space, because we are human. Or fail to enter space, and thereby reject our humanity.
  8. Re: Space Pirates? Of course Space Pirates! With laser cutlasses! Nothing less will do.
  9. Re: Moreau Techniques Don't forget: Psychological Limitation: Hate the Evil Dr. who turned me into this horrible half-human form (Very Common, Strong) (becomes Common or Uncommon if escapes the Island)
  10. Re: Planet Template Excuse me, but what is "the WG"?
  11. Re: The "Classic" Elements I hope PhaseKitty does not mind it if I answer: There are six kinds of quarks. They have been named "up, down, strange, charm, truth, and beauty", though the last two are called by most "top and bottom."
  12. Re: A general question? What about Shields? I find that the discussion in Star Hero, upon pages 198 and 199, is quite useful. The only irritation I find is the idea of dividing up the field into four sections. It should, I hold, be six sections. "Top" and "bottom" need as much care as the other four directions.
  13. Re: How hard is your science ficiton? I had to check my "control panel" to be sure you had not repped me. I love the name of your campaign. Quite evocative of the movie serials.
  14. Re: Plot seeds? If ships use "Hyperspace," "Underspace," or similar rubber-science terms: The PCs are going from A to B on a spaceship. Somehow, the ship is forced entirely into Otherspace, losing contact with Normalspace. The PCs have to "get back," a problem made worse by the fact (hitherto unsuspected) that there are...things!...that live in Otherspace. Very inimical things. Things that can eat...let us say, absorb...people. Which are hungry!
  15. Re: How hard is your science ficiton? Martian zeppelins!?!? Wonderful idea! I worship your imagination! I absolutely must use that idea some time.
  16. Re: How hard is your science ficiton? I have a very simple rule: the science should be hard enough disbelief is only suspended, soft enough the characters are more interesting than the setting. Where that point/those points is/are depends on the group of players.

    Space Art

Re: Space Art To get the wallpapers, go to http://www.solarvoyager.com/wallpaper.asp Click on the line, under the picture, that gives the dimensions you wish to have. Hope that's what you needed to know. Now for my problem: when I click on the line, in the sidebar, for "Gallery," it sends me right back to the front page. I've checked, and the link is indeed supposed to do so. Could someone tell me the proper URL?
  18. Re: Future submarine warfare? I think the most important foreseeable change is improved sensors in submarines. Type one is improved signal processing: bettered ability to find the important noises from amid all the unimportant ones. This is computer driven. Type two is non-sonar sensors: radiation detection is the chief of these.
  19. Re: The things I learned playing a ninja! Ninjatude never dies!
  20. Re: Megascale and Hyperdrive There is a certain pragmatism in avoiding the matter, is there not? Even so, it perturbs me to give something so large for such a cheap cost. Ah well, for such are "house rules" invented, right?
  21. Re: The things I learned playing a ninja! Black is Soooo slimming!
  22. Re: Plot seeds? The colonists of Delta Something IV hire the group to help them deal with the Empire (or whatever the interstellar government is). The Empire has very strict laws about native sapient life; if it turns out one of the life forms on a planet is sapient, any colony must follow VERY strict regulations, and frequently has to pull up stakes and leave. The question on Delta Something IV is; are the Inventednames sapient or not? The Empire says one thing, the colonists the opposite. And the PCs are the people who might be able to answer that. (Or, the colonists need muscle/protection). The twist is, the colonists say the Inventednames are sapient and the Empire says not. Why the reverse from the usual? The Inventednames can only inhabit a setting/area that is inimical to human life, so the colony is not in danger of being uprooted. As well, there's all the money visiting scientists (and their support staff) would spend. A win-win for the colonists. So, why is the Empire so oppposed? Opposed enough to send "researchers" who are nothing more than thugs, trying to beat the colonists out of their POV??
  23. Re: Megascale and Hyperdrive BTW, am I the only person to think that an additional +1/4 is much too inexpensive to have all possible levels of Megascale up to X, for any value of X? I believe it should be somewhat more expensive, dependent on how high X is. Any thoughts?
