  1. I had a DC Heroes character named Boomer. After so many years and people's trip to the Thesaurus. I'm surprised the idea didn't come up. It was a long time ago. Maybe I got it from the video game. "Sonic Boom!" Or I got it from TV where a dog was named Boomer. But it fits for a Speedster.
  2. I know you want that Monster damage character, with that monster speed, but if it came to playing the character, I would not end up playing such a character. Everyone in our group is 5 speed. I put the fun into the character with the Backstory like he speaks in 3rd person or the like. I am quite happy with Mysterio. This is why I was trying to get Powered Armor type character with the same sort of powers, Speed, OCV/DCV, Body, Stun, etc. Since it wasn't working I wondered if there was something I was missing. Now if I have to tone it down to the lower end of what a 350 point character should be, so be it. At least then I know that Powered Armor can't be like my other character.
  3. I guess for damage wise, a 350pt game 14d6 was the maximum. I remember when we played 4th edition and the characters were above 350 then the dice of damage went above 14. The current game has a wide variety of characters. The GM's wife is new to the game (the chief reason for the game in the first place as we have not played Champions in a long time). She has a Leopard sized dragon that she can ride. It can breath ice attacks. I think it maxes out at 14d6, but it gets enraged when she gets knocked out. So the Dragon actually killed a normal with knock back after the initial attack hitting a wall. Another character is based off of a shape shifter from Teen Titans. He can turn into certain Animals but he has density increase and as far as I know he has no armor for any of them, relying on the density increase. The Martial Arts Character has almost no armor, but a very high OCV, DCV. He can see into the near future. He uses special Martial Arts weapons for tripping and such. His problem is the the player likes his Tablet video games but we are used to him hanging back. the last (other than me) is a character with NO powers what so ever. The game is based in the 70's, so his character is based on the 70's TV show "The Fall Guy". He is a Stunt Man. He has various Vehicles and I guess he spent all his points on Vehicles and no actual powers. When a real fight comes, he has to hang back. Maybe he will punch someone, but that's it. That's just an idea of what the group is. No one is consistently doing a lot of damage, but given a lucky roll, and I suppose most can do it. I think we need to give our Stunt Man a gun of some sort. I think I was hoping the Mysterio character was the guideline for what I wanted. It had the power level, the defense and other things. Unfortunately, people saw it as something to discuss which wasn't the intent.
  4. I have tried to create your suggested character in Hero Designer and it doesn't work and I think perhaps you are using 6th edition rules in mind even though EC doesn't exist in in 6th. Our GM will never use 6th I tried to forage ahead without the ACV stuff in the ECV Even though you say I don't need Persistent with a 0END Force Field, I would have to turn off the AI to make that happen. But then I come upon the +8 speed and once again I have a road block. Unless you have GM approval, you can't have something in the EC that doesn't use END. So unless I once again turn off the AI, that is out. I think the other issue with the character idea is that it is very over powered. (20d6 move through!) I think you might think my group is over powered and thus create a character that fits. But if I showed the above character to my GM he would toss it back and say to tone it down. He is all too familiar with Power Gamers. Though you may not have created that, it sure seems that way for a character just starting out with a 20d6 move through. It totally unbalances the group. (there isn't a group and there isn't a game for this character as this is is just a just for kicks sort of character, but still) If you feel like having another go at that character great. If not that's great too. Thanks for helping me out on this. Like I said before just using an EC for the majority of the powers wasn't on my mind.
  5. I DID ask for a character concept built around armor and this is that. Truthfully I never would have thought to put it all into an EC. Normally I would have done like the Mysterio character and split the powers between Multipower and EC. But this gives me ideas where to go with a character.
  6. I think I can agree with the speed. the High speed is for speedsters. If I wanted something like that speed demon thing I could take Lightning reflexes as a power. The flight seems excessive to me. I would lower it to 25 with x4 noncom. I think you've been watching too much TV The 27PD/ED is wrong. You need persistent with Always On. Armor should do the same thing and the Effect of having force field that turns on only when you rush someone would look good instead of layered force fields. I like this idea..... .....but I also like the old one that is armor only with the weak guy inside, sort of like Tony Stark. Take away his armor and he's a normal guy. There simply is no way to give the character a tiny TK that can only spin a quarter so I just say that is just a Schtick. So this tiny power is magnified when he puts on the armor. I know you don't like the guy that is useless outside the armor, but there it is.
  7. You got me thinking about this. My original idea for the character was Armored with TK outside of the armor. It would be like giving Professor Xavier powered armor. (I always thought one Plot Bullet would kill most comic book mutants) As far as the rest, my GM is fine with 5 speed and 14d6 damage. In our current game the damage ranges from 12d6 on up to 15d6. We have a Martial Arts character with almost no armor, but 18DCV. As far as expert at everything, it comes with playing a lot of 4th edition and many Power Gamers in the room. 5 speed was the norm but it was higher. 14d6 was the norm, but it was higher. OCV 9 was norm, but it was higher. So I was keeping up with the Joneses as it were. When I create Mysterio, OCV 9 etc, my GM who was both player and GM back then doesn't blink because it was normal back then and is normal here. So, Multi power for Metallica, no more focus.
  8. I don't think anyone is understanding is that Mysterio is something to be judged. It is a character that is already in play. (note that there are 40 points in it. The game has been going for many weeks. Because people will ask though, Mysterio is kind of based on my profile pic. He is that Dark Noir detective where you can't see his face. His background is that he came out of a book that no one read. He was magically pulled from it. The character speaks as if you were to read the lines from a book. For example. "The detective walked down the alley and and spoke to the thug. "You ain't supposed to be here," he said". That is how the character talks. Also, about the Distinctive Feature. I originally set it for 5. His face is constantly in shadows. It's rather difficult to get a license. But he can look in a mirror and sees his face just fine. My GM suggested an additional 5 for other reasons. I did think that at one point saying all the time. "That's an insane idea!" Mysterio said. So I put an 8- on that once a day. But instead of the group hating it, they LOVED it. Another thing. My attacks are normal for the group. If you think they should be 12d6 for a starting character, good for you, it's your game. But as I have said before, this is a game that has been going since last year. I'm sorry it wasn't well received by the community. Now, as far as the other character. CONCEPT: I had originally decided that I had an Archeologist who finds this Alien Artifact that has fallen from the sky. It is a helmet that when he puts it on, it transforms into Alien Armor. That is the basic concept. OH one other thing. Instead of using a standard energy blast, I wanted him to have Telekinesis. So his power collection would be like that. "Kinetic Blast" and so on. I thought I wrote this down but as I look up I don't see it. The Disadvantages on the character I have questions about DO NOT MATTER. This is not a character for a game it is just something I am playing with. When I am messing around I use another character and save it as something else. I probably should have deleted all those disadvantages, but then you would have complained that I didn't have any, so the point is moot. As above, 14d6 is normal (for our group), so I need not worry about that. I know people in this group and many other have to say it, but I have been playing role playing games since the 80's I think the word is Grognard? I know perfectly well how to create a character. Champions is just more difficult for me for the mechanics so I rely on the program. Unfortunately the program lets through things like Linked even when I am sure it's great with some things but not with others. I'm sorry I didn't quote anyone. I hope the attached zipped PDFs work for anyone that wants to look. I think I got the help I needed. If anyone wants to still criticize the Mysterio character, please do so. thanks for the help. Mysterio.pdf.zip Metallica.pdf.zip
  9. Thanks for the help with the stats. You are right. I did save a bunch of points on them. I also got rid of Linked to Armor which still bugged me. Linked works fine on other things, but for some reason in my mind Linking to armor just doesn't work. I removed it and I still have points left over. The Multiform was just a Role Playing thing I suppose and I didn't really need it anyway. Thanks for the help
  10. I'm going to play with the Stats as suggested, but I think Armor is resistant PD and ED. The same thing for Forcefield. Unless you are referring to something else? Thanks.
  11. I had to rebuild the old character with Linked and OIF. I am sure it is a far cry different from the original because this one balances. The difference between this one and the Mysterio character that I am currently in a game with is not having an EC. Obviously I was able to save points with that. I suppose I could have saved a bunch of points with this armored character without the Multiform. I was thinking that He would change into a weaker form, sort of like the Comic Book Thor. Once again, this isn't a character for game play, but if we played Champions again after our current game, I would want to play something like this. Even when the program is saying this is all fine, I want to see that it is. Thanks. TK armor2.hdc
  12. I'll working on making a list of powers. I'm basing this on my current character in the current game. (NOTE: when I say I am basing this on the character below, the Armored character has NOTHING to do with it. All it is is the basic build structure that I was using). Though he has gained 40XP, he started with 14d6 EB and a 7d6NND. He has 16" of flight, x2 Non combat. That character, Mysterio, has a 0END force field. At the beginning of the game, his attack powers cost 7 END and he has an END reserve. I think when I started the Armored character, I had the idea of TK. (Powers based on TK but he wears armor for defense). I am sure from what Lone Wolf has said that I have done Linked wrong. I only read what it said in the book. It implied that I could link a lesser power to, say, Armor. That would be the intent. None of the powers can be used without the Armor. though I think as much as I would like the weapon multi power would cost more and couldn't be linked. I was also trying to look at Variable limitation, sort of like Superman (but not the same. The idea being that part of this armor fell to earth. I always liked to look of Doctor Fate's Helmet in Black Adam and thought it would be a cool helmet for armor to sort of come out of. So the thought was that this Armor came from "out there". I could apply limitations in that way. I'll look for my other character attempt with the Linked and OIF and post it as soon as I can. Thanks Mysterio_number 12.hdc
  13. Could someone give me some ideas for a 350 point Powered Armor? The most powerful attacks are 14d6. Disads are not important. I can fill in the 150 points. I am running out of points. I have used OIF and Linked at the same time and I think I shouldn't do that even when the Character Creator has no issue with it. It doesn't seem like it should work. When I don't use those two together, I run out of points. Anyway, YOUR character builds would be a great start for me so I see what to start with. Maybe I'm just not being creative enough. Thanks. Also, this ISN'T for a game. I'm just playing around. It's what I do when I'm in the middle of a lull in a game.
  14. The rules for using Multiple Power attacks brings up Power Frame Works, but not Ultra Slots. That may be enough to say they are not allowed or vague enough to say maybe. My friends in a recent game at first said yes. I have a Mulipower with among other things a zero range EB and Telekinesis. Both are Ultra slots. At the time when I wanted to use this EB "hand attack" with the TK punch, the GM was okay with it. Later I was told absolutely no. I tried to say that it was in the rules but still No. I just went with it. I'm not a rules lawyer. It does make sense that Ultra Slot powers can't be used because it says you must have enough points to pay for each power. But an Ultra slot has already been paid. So, how does this work. Can I use Ultra slotted powers for Multiple Power attacks?
  15. Though this has already been answered, I want to share this. I read a Science Fiction book some years ago.The characters had Psionic powers and were miners. They travel the galaxy or where ever because they could detect which star system had the gold or other minerals they needed. Then there was a guy that could Teleport them AND their ship. At some point they said forget about the ship. The story is just a bit over powered for Champions, but if you need to ask if some writer had the idea, there you go.
  16. At the time I played pathfinder, we played two modules spanning 8 years. (Friday evenings and then not every evening) My first game was a Monk. The second one I wanted to play a Magus, but there was an angry player that didn't like there being two Maguses (Magi?) in the group, so I got tired of the arguing and switched to a Bard - Arcane Duelist (bard in medium armor and TWF) I basically was a Magus but with bard spells. If we had played another game, I would have wanted to play a Zen archer or maybe a Swashbuckler. So many new books had come out over the years since we had gamed and we got to look at them. In 5E it started at a straight up Monk, but there were issues with a player and we started over with something new. That D&D game called Iron Kingdom I played a Monk/Rogue to 20th level before we started the current Champions game.
  17. One of my favorite books is Flamesong Tekumel: The Empire of the Petal Throne. Knowing Barker's past and having read that book (and I will read it again) there isn't a THING in it that would make you think something bad of him. I love his books no matter what.
  18. I think I would much rather play Pathfinder but not second edition. I never got to play all the class combinations before our GM jumped over the 5E.
  19. Star Wars. It's the one with the strange dice. All my friends loved it. I never could wrap my head around the strange dice and how the system worked. If I couldn't get my mind around those dice, I couldn't get into the game. I love Star Wars. I don't think we were allowed to play Jedi. One guy plays a Mandalorian. (before the show and I didn't have that in depth understanding all I knew was he was this guy in armor). But I just got hampered by the dice and I think if we played the D20 version I would have liked it. But the others HATED the d20 version.
  20. I have played PBEM for many years, but I think it really depends on the GM. Although our GM had one hell of a hot temper and some games tended to boil over if things didn't go his way (one time I didn't give enough 'air time' to a group of his NPCs that he gave out specific details to me and he was very angry about the situation.) I love the way he runs the combat vs the way others online want to play an X-Men game that is purely roleplaying where everyone just sits in a room and ....talks. With my angry GM, I have created all sorts of characters that I can't possibly created in regular Champions like Soleste the Pixie with an Energy blast. She was the fastest flier in the group. She became the Barrow Queen. She got her own backup singers. She was a blast to play until the game broke up. I played another character that I named AAHCHO!! (No relation to the Star Wars planet, this took place a long time before that) He could eat his way through anything, but Radioactive stuff tasted funny and he had to spit it out. He was based completely off of Stitch and he had a "Flip top head". I had many other characters like Capacitor an alien cop that once again couldn't be easily made in regular Champions. but I had a blast playing PBEM. My friend quit PBEM. Because he was so awesome and my experience with others, I won't be going back.
  21. I voted artwork, but it depends. For example in my last 5E game it was Artwork. In another game, I played a gunslinger so I had one of the characters from "The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly". I forgot his name, but it was the bad guy. So it all depends as others have said.
  22. I've played enough Pathfinder and read enough of this sort of thing. GMs running evil games is never a good thing. Evil parties rarely work well together. The spirit of the game is that you work together and you seem to have a killer DM! Find another group if possible. You have people back stabbing you and a GM doing the same. One thing that has been said by many other threads is to talk to the GM in private about the caustic atmosphere. If that isn't possible, then get out.
  23. Apologies, I missed Applicability at or near the end of Focus. But I was looking for it in HD. Because of my lack of smarts, I rely on the program. I guess I would put something in the notes on the power about it being a Personal Focus. I know HD wouldn't put it in there because there is zero cost but IMO, it would help to have everything there. Thanks for the help.
  24. I'm using 5th edition and I tried to look for Personal Focus and Universal. They sound like 'in game' terms. Nor did I find them in HD. More importantly, I was looking for what happens when said weapon hits the ground. Suppose my hero has an OAF sword. By the rules any Focus can be taken away. Sort of like in Avengers End Game, Thor's hammer is knocked from his hand. But who can pick it up. (in the comics I've been told Thanos has done it as well as Hulk) But beyond terms I can't find in the book, how would you build it so that once the item is out of hand it can't or is hard to pick up. I guess this might break the rules. You make it OAF so it CAN be taken away only to come up with something so no one can pick it up off of the ground except you. I'm also using hero designer because I'm not good with the rules. This is why I asked how someone else would build this.
