  1. Re: Paths Not Taken

Bruce Waynes parents never die, he goes on to be a spoiled rich kid, who later manages to seize control of the Family bussiness, later a man is "accidentally" dropped into a vat of chemicals that Wayne illegally dumped, he becomes the Joker and seeks revenge against Wayne, becomming a great crime fighter along the way.

  2. Re: GMing for a new group

Maybe the "Accident" wasn't an accident, and now the party responcible kidnaps the PC's to disect them, steal their dna and clone them, mind wash them or what ever nasty villians do, and the PC's must cooperate to get away.

  3. I have been thinking about comic books where nearly invunerable characters get injuries like broke ribs. In standard champions in is nearly impossible to do body damage to characters with "S"'s on their chest, or really tough bricks like Hurcules who in, an old Avengers book wwas beaten nearly to death without "killing attacks" being used. The only way I can think of to simulate this in champions is only allow half of a characters defense stop body, while they would get all of it against stun. Any feed back or alternate ideas would be welcome.

  4. Re: The Cosmic Reset Button: Destroying the World

Maybe the faithful should embrace it, but they should also realize that it is the end of the possibilty of the lost to find the path to god, enlightment, assecntion or what ever the faith holds as the ultimate promise. Also there is usally a great deal of suffering, to which the faithful may not be compltetly immune. So it is possibile that good people would resist an attempt by others of their sect to prematurely trigger the apocolipse

  5. Re: Active Points For Spell Builds

Active point limits are tricky, in some cases a relativly harmless spell can have a high active point cost, while effective spells can have a relativly low active point cost. DC limits are a better gauge of how powerful a spell is. Most important is that as a game master you must decide what the scope of magic is, and either design all the magic in the campaign, or use exisiting published material and limit spells based on weak, average, or strong versions of the spells that are availiable in your campaign.

  6. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion

As a Bard Torean is all for heroic exploits about which to write songs and wonderful tales. But really... pus-oozing half ghoul / half mind flayers are pretty hard to work into a melodic harmony. Ya gotta give me something to work with here. Dare I say... throw me a bone.

    Watch out for bone showers

  7. Re: If Earth was hit by a Meteor

I've seen 1000-km asteroid impacts referred to as "ocean-boiling", i.e., enough energy is deposited to vaporize all the water on Earth's surface and, effectively, sterilize the surface of the planet. That wouldn't sterilize the whole planet, because it wouldn't kill the deep biosphere, but life would have to start all over from single-celled organisms reinvading the surface from ocean floor vents.

The comets we see are several-kilometer objects, though there is nothing preventing some really big ones (Pluto-class objects) from being on hairpin orbits such that they spend most of their time in the Oort Cloud.

If that happend I don't think nature would have enough time to re-evolve intellegence, some experts think the earth has already used 90% of it's habitiable life span. The unavoidable truth is that sooner or later we will die in a firey blaze, a meteor, a red giant sun eating us, or worse if we survive all that we can die as entorpy consumes the universe. Cheery thought.:drink:

  8. Re: Cybernetics comes closer

I think we will be growing replacement limbs and organs before the full on technical feisablity of a true amalgiamtion of man and machine. The series 2058 on discovery made some pretty interesting predictions along those lines.

  9. Re: Supernatural Hero

IMHO, in these kinds of genres (read, non-superheroic) its best to put as much of the "genre rubbish" as possible on the NPCs, rather than forcing them on PCs. If it easier done with a simple disadvantage rather than a power, i suggest you go that route, as long as the disadvantage is common to ALL NPCs of that type (in this case, Demons). After all, if a stake in the heart renders Vampires immobile, then THAT is a vampire problem, not something the PCs should have to pay for. Especially since in the Supernatural TV series, it seems like anyone can read the excorsism ritual straight out of a book and banish a demon (e.g. the last episode has dozens of demons being excorsised by a taped recording, heh)

anyway, my 2 cents...not worth much, but given just the same ;)

I agree, but I might (as a GM) ask for a KS occoult lore, PS: Hunter or other related skill roll to prepare proper demon traps, perform proper exorsims ect.

  10. Re: A 'realistic' supers world?

I prefer the realistic "there is always someone tougher" awnser to that question, in the long time that the USA has been around, only durning the civil war did we decide that millitary action was perferable to political action, in short if Captin Megaton decided to go off the reservation, someone, possibly previously unknown would take him down, and make him awnser for his crimes, if not then a group of someones.

  11. Re: What would the character sheet for typical MMA competitor look like?

I've watched fightquest and human weapon, both are really cool. what I can surmise is that

    1. Ground fighting techniques are crutial, a lot of the fighters are profeiceint with brazialian jujitsu. Grabs, takedowns exscapes, chokes and joint break manuvers

    2. boxxing or kick boxxing. Puching (jabs, crosses, hooks, combinations), Kicks.

I have noticed in the few fights I have watched that submissions are as if not more important than K.O.s and single stlye fighters seem to be at a disadvantage.

  12. Re: A "realistic" zombie outbreak

Zombies not being overly strong or fast must have one of two factors on their side, supprise or overwhelming numbers. Intially some zombies wake up in a morgue maybe 3 or 4 bodies are viable they begin lumbering around and suprise some hositpol staff before armed security or police take them down, those biten would be treated, proably given a broad spetrum antibiotic, and a tetnus shot. They would proably be held for observation, espeacilly if the CDC gets invovled at the early part of the out break.

Then you have the bodies at funeral homes awaiting embalmbing, usally 1 or 2 embamers on staff maybe 4 or 5 bodies, that senioro looks a lot nastier than the hospitol, but you have two outcomes, the embalmers get eaten, or exscape and seek medical attention. You have the possiblity of health care overload, but it would not take long before every hospitol was heavily gaurded, and people figure out what to look for.

  13. Re: Urban Fantasy and HERO

The trick is in playing around with foci' date=' extra time, and ritual limitations. I understand why they went with a Fudge based system, since they built Fate around it, but Hero covers everything with their powers more or less out of the box. So, you want a blasty-type spell? It requires a staff as a focus? You need to say a special word, as well? How was the staff made? Hand crafted you say, with mystic runes carved in it? So, it wouldn't be easy to get a new one, huh? Badda bing, badda boom, you have your limitations outlined. I'm still working on the shield bracelet, trying to decide if using it as an armor power instead of a force wall power is too munchkin-y. Right now, I'm just trying to come up with some framework stuff, so that I can sit down with players and my laptop and copy/paste out a character using HERO Designer.[/quote']

For magical defenses Force feild works the best because you can add wrinkles like power defense and flash defense, as many magical attacks feature drains, supress, transforms and flashes in various forms and effects. The down side is endurance cost and the lack of persistant defense, if your dazed your forcefeild goes down. Both can be fixed with apporiate advantages but that increases the cost of the power.

  14. Re: I could use a little help

In hero the most point effective vaule for primary characteristics end in 0, 3, 5 , and 8. For example a 13 str give 3 PD 3 REC, and 7 stun where as a 12 Str gives you only 2PD, 2 REC, and 6 Stun. It has to do with rounding. With skill rolls Charateristics that end in 3 and 8 are best. a 13 Pre gives you a 12 or less on 3d6. To improve to a 13 or less you need an 18, to improve to 14 or less you need a 23, so on and so forth, just a little basic tip to help save you some points.

  15. Re: Democratic Republics in Fantasy Worlds?

It should really depend on what type of fantasy setting you are playing. Most fantasy setting closly mirror historic settings (fantasized with wizards dragons and such) If your setting is like dark ages Europe then monarchs are going to be the norm. If your game is a golden ages type of setting (like before the fall of Rome) then limmited monarchs and Democracies and Republics should exist. Keep in mind that Christanity actually helped keep the monarchs of Europe in power (Divine Right) so politcal systems should reflect prevlent religious veiws.

  16. Re: What would your Master Villain do?

The frist thing we do is mind control every one in the world to send us a dollar a week. Now that we have a small budget to work from we start buying up the debts of countries, meanwhile we use our financle resources to manipulate world markets, driving costs sky high while hording commodities in secreat cashes in orbit around earth and the moon. We also begin making contributions to the campaigns of american politicans, who in their desire to be re-elected will pass legislation to ease trade and market restrictions making our stream lineing our operations and reducing the chance of accidental discovery. Finally we will own virtually everything of importance legally, who cares about the superheros then?
