  2. Re: Need help with a sneaky liaison

I find it helpful to ask my self qustions about an npc I build to help flesh out the background and develop sub plots. questions about your liason:

Dose she have a criminal backgroud?

if so what caused her to reform?

Dose she still have contacts in the criminal world?

How did she come to work with the police?

if she has a criminal background how dose it complicate her relationship with her fellow employees.

How many siblings dose she have, and what are they like?

Who are her enemies? Why do they dislike her?

I hope this is of some help to you.

P.S. you might try to find a real person with a similar job/skill set and base your NPC off of them.

  3. Re: Attuning to Magic Items

I could never see making a heroic caharacter pay for a magic item they earned adventuring, maybe if they wanted to begin with it,but not if they found it adventureing. as the GM you have total control over any item found so with careful preperation they should never present a game balance issue. the only advantage to being a heroic (normal) character is you don't pay for eqiutment with points.

  4. Re: Megascale and Teleport Sighting

Emphasis mine. Full stop, right there. She can't see her target location, hence it's a blind teleport and applicable rules regarding blind teleports apply. Simple.

For the points, SBT is a must-buy for any teleporter able to jump beyond his line of sight, IMO.

For the record, LOS at sea level is 13.2 nautical Miles

  5. Re: Building a smoke blade

The problem with darkness is unless you have PI or an enhanced sense you can't "see" threw it either (+'s to sight perception don't work) and have to make nontargeting sense perception rolls and all that they intale as far as effects on your CV's

  6. Re: Wrestling HERO

Advice bit #1: Get The Ultimate Martial Artist (Used, damaged or in PDF). It addresses Professional Wrestling.

Advice bit #2: (For the more patient) Wait for Lucha Libre HERO to come out & adapt what you need

There is a lot of good stuff in UMA including ways to design new manuvers and a rediculous amount of premade manuvers. A large element of the game would have to to be the Reputation perk,

World famous wrestler: Reputation 14- large group +4/+4d6 12pts

  7. Re: How do you hide a saved half?

Why not use Acting (it's usually an 'Everyman Skill' anyway) to pull it off and a PER roll with modifiers to see through it? Analyse Style could also be used.

I really like the idea of using Analyse Style, espeaicially to detect who might be ready or able to attack, even if they are trying to be deceptive about it.

  8. Re: New Body Armor

I wonder if it is using diferent materials than other body armors or is it engineered difrently or both?

Edsel found some stuff that that you treated cloth with and it gave the cloth bullet resistant qualities so it could be worn all over the body I want to say its call liqiud body armor but don't qoute me on that

  9. Re: How do you hide a saved half?

This really is a question of intent. The particular role playing action... or the specific mechanic is not as important as "What intent is behind the player declaring that?"

If a player is saying something like "I don't want Dr. Fist to know that I see him coming," then the first question is NOT... "Ok, what mechanic do you use?" The question should be, "What is your intent? What do you hope to accomplish by fooling Dr. Fist?"

Understanding intent is critical for GM interpretation. Most miscommunication and bad feelings can be traced back to assumptions made by one party about what the other player expected. In the example above the GM might say, "Ok... Dr. Fist thinks you are unaware and really winds up to put everything into one shot to take you down. His levels will be put into extra damage rather than OCV."

Now, the GM is trying to give a benefit, but maybe the player really wanted a chance to "I do a back kick, surprising him as he winds up." So what the player realling "intended" was to set up his own surprise attack... not to be able to more easily avoid the attack.

Intent is crucial... because the player clearly wants something (likely some kind of benefit to his character) for the declared action... or he wouldn't have stated it. Ruling as a GM and deciding how to apply mechanics to resolve the situation is dependent on clearly understanding the intent of the player described action in the first place.

In online play I require "Descripting statments" followed by "Intent statements" so that the player describes in color language what they do... while the intent explains their desired outcome and often which mechanic they think would work.

It works in FtF play as well... any time a player describes an action but you aren't sure exactly WHY the stated that... or WHAT they hope to accomplish... just ask. "What is your intent in doing that?" and things click along much better.

or in this case a buracracy roll
