  1. Re: a little praise so far, so good i guess. most of the players keep coming back and the game been going on for over a year now. i really like what we've done, and i'm hgavving a good time running it. -stew
  2. i don't post here much. i did when i started my FH campaign about a year ago, and got tons of info and help. since then, i just tend to come and lurk when work is boring or dull. but i really enjoy this forum and think it's aces, and i just wanted to post to say so.
  3. Re: What kind of fantasy campaigns do you love? i like a low to moderate power level. i started running my FH campaign with a base point of 150, and now i'm wishing that i started at 125 or even 100. i also like earth like settings, so when something is described as a castle it's easy to imagine a castle, and then you can add other world details to make it seem like a strange place. one way i do this is to try and use other phrases in character speech than normal ones. as for epic, i think largeness should grow proportionally with the characters. at first, characters have a lot of influence in a small local area, and as they get better and maybe more well known, it starts to expand. i also like low fantasy, or where magic is very mininal, this is not to say it's not influencial, but i don't like wizards walking around and throwing fireballs.

  5. Re: spells and multi-power i use MPs for the framework in my FH game. it works really well so far, but we haven't been playing that long yet. though i wanna second the notion of making each slot an ultra, mainly because the oppertunity cost of casting one spell over another works really well for dramactic situations, and to me creates a more fantasy feel where casters have a magic list of spells that they can cast one at a time vs a more super hero feel where you have several spells going on at once. also, with all the limitations, ultra slots often only cost 1 or 2 points, making for a long enough list to be imaginative but still can't do everything. i also would advise against using a VPP. this is just my opinion, but i forsee VPPs being the fastest way that a caster starts to overshadow the rest of the party, since given a nuff points, could have an effective spell for any situation.
  6. Re: Medieval Demographics Made Easy helpful info! thanks!
  7. Re: Combat skill levels but before doing all that, you might wanna talk to them about it first, saying something along the lines that you didn't really realize that +6 OCV would be so unbalancing and maybe some points could be refunded and spent elsewhere. i just feel that is on the way to a more permanent solution and could be a lot less frustrating for everyone around. i mean, it's cool to temporarily screw a PC by taking away his sword, but to do so everytime you want to challenge that PC would get old and frustating, and the PC might just start trying to get +6 with every weapon.. "NOW i have +6 ocv with swords, spears, and axes!" "too bad that last night those theiving pixies stole all your spears, swords, and axes, just before the gaint owl attack!" "wow, that was a hard fight without my weapons, now to head into town and get a new one." "too bad that the town doesn't make swords, spears, or axes! only sling shots!"
  8. Re: fantasy setting i didn't know that the last dominion - echoes of glory and the throne of god were written for hero specifically. i might have to check those out.

  10. Re: Fantasy Travel Question in my FH game, i simply worked it this way: man (walking or running) and horse (walking): 20 ish miles per day. a horse running can go 40 ish in one day, but it is exhusted by the end of it. a char can push a horse to go 40 miles for 2 days (which gives the character teh ability to cover 80 miles in two days when walking it would take 4) but this destroys the poor horse (it goes lame after). i don't know how exactly accurate that is, but it is an easy mechanic for everyone to remember. you have your normal miles per day (20), which you can double once (to 40) but then your horse NEEDS to recover, and you can double it again (for 80) but you loose your horse. and of course, you make the characters unburden their horse the faster they want to travel. : )
  11. Re: For shizzle, Kizzle Shrizzle! this is more or less exactly what i did when i first came here because i was starting a fh game. many were the questions in my head that were answered and many were my ideas refined for use in the hero system by reading through KS's site. a wealth of info.
  12. Re: Herbalism speaking of herbalism.. one of my characters is an alchemist, and will eventually want to search for materials for his potions, does anyone have a good way to handle this? for example, i was simply going to have him roll a die for each hour he spends walking and looking at the ground for the plants and such, and then count the BODY of those dice to determine what he found, then say that each potion (bought as a power with chargers) requires 1 body for every 5 active points. this way he can gather materials as he adventures, use his potions, and when he FINALLY gets within a alchemy lab, he can use his collected materials (the BODY) to replenish his charges. we would still give the materials he found really cool fantasy sounding names though. so he rolls 2 dice, gets 3 body. i say "you find some dream-wart, dragontoe, and fleese" but record the actual 3 body, so he has 15 points of one of his potions. anyone else have a suggestion?
  13. Re: Unofficial Welcome Mat (For New Members) hey everyone! i'm a new person, i initially came to the boards a little while ago in an attempt to scrap together a FH game (which worked, playing the second session this weekend actually). i got tons of useful advice/support as a GM in creating a FH world and runnning a FH game, and useful information on how to maintain balance. : ) thanks for your help everyone!
  14. Re: tracking LTE? thank you both! i got it down now, and it's nice to be reassured.
  15. hey there FH guru's! please tolerate my thickness, but i want to double check my use of Long term endurance in my FH game before it takes off next week. i tried searching the forums but could not find the answer i was looking for. in my campaign world, magic will use LTE through a limitation, very similair to how Killer Shrike describes on his site (and by the way, thak you KS for all the info on your site, it's very helpful to a new FH GM .) so take this examlpe please and tell me if i'm doing it right: a mage casts a spell that costs him 2 regular END and 4 LTE and let's say that he has 30 END total and a REC of 5. he spends 6 END total for that phase. lets go on to say that he casts the same spell once more for 6 more END, leaving him with 18 at the end of segment 12. he then takes his post 12 recovery for 5 and begins the next turn with 23 END. for some reason the combat stops there before he has a chance to act again. then a mere hour and a half later (before the mage has had time to recovery LTE) another combat begins. so now the mage begins combat with 30-8 LTE = 22 END. does that seem correct to all you FH veterns? i just wanna make sure i have it down before i try and explain it to my players. thanks for the replys!
