Re: TV to rpg I almost forgot, tried out for a Dr. Who game once but the GM never went through with it.

Stargate, Serenity, Farscape, and Babylon 5. All of these TV series have made there way into role playing books. I have played a game based on the TV show Heroes before. What other TV shows do you think would make a good role playing book (or game)?
  6. Re: From Pulp to Golden Age But in the Champion's Universe there is no Superman, except in comic books, radio, and other media. So, what happened in the Champion's Universe?
  7. In the Pulp age (up until about 1940), people didn't fly, could lift tanks, or even teleport over vast distances. Some had powers, but they were often weak or had a variety of limitations. By World War II, (often called the Golden Age), people could fly, lift tanks, etc. So what (in your opinion) happened?
  8. Wolverine's claws and Black Knight's sword. Just two of the comic book items that can "cut through anything". How would you build that? Even a 4d6K AP, Piercing wouldn't cut through anything.
  9. Re: Story thread? It looks like there is not a tremendous opinion of whether I should go for it or not. I do like the idea of having a separate area for story writing. Unfortunately, even if Mr. Long decides to create another separate area just for this purpose, I somehow don't think it is high on his priority list. I may just blog it, and every so often, post a discussion thread to see if anyone is reading it. I'm just afraid it will get lost in a blog.
  10. I am considering adding a story to the discussion board. The story would be divided into much smaller stories, like chapters in a book. It would also take place in the Champion’s Universe, all leading to the fictional place of Sentry City. Over time it could become a very large thread, as I would continually add to it over time. The story would have parts of my own characters, my player’s characters, and some references to “official” Champion Universe characters. There would be parts of Pulp style stores in the mix as well, as I tend to show the history or Sentry city and some of its inhabitants. The problem being that this is a “discussion” board not a “submit a story board”. I’m worried most would think that it is just taking up time and space form discussions. I wouldn’t begin the story until mid July, after my vacation. So, would it be appropriate to submit a Champions based story on a discussion board?
  11. Re: Super villain contest Well, with glowing endorsements like that, I hesitate to bring up the Dr. Destroyer vs Mechanon debate.

  13. Re: Super villain contest OK, more specifically: 20 Lesser Vampires (from Bestiary) lead by Stalker (news of the world) VS 20 Brainless zombies (from Bestiary) lead by Rictus (villains, vandals, and vermin)
  14. Re: Super villain contest Vampires vs zombies. (OK, not really "super" villain, but actually may come up in my campaign)
  15. I thought it would be fun to take two villains that are mostly evenly matched (point wise) and see who you'd think would win if they battled each other. After you post who'd you think would win (and why), you can post your own contestants. In this corner, He's got a tail swipe that can level a building... Ankylosaur And in this corner, made of pure evil... Morningstar. Let's get ready to rumble!!!!
  16. Re: Worth a thousand words? Thanks, the hardest part is linking the 2 images in a story line. It's an interesting challenge. I'm just glad it's not more than 2 images.
  17. Re: Worth a thousand words? Madcap and Kaleidoscope Ana and Mark Schultz were brother and sister. Mark was a year older than Ana. They were very smart. Ana loved music. It was her passion. At a very early age, she had learned to play almost every musical instrument ever known. Mark was always fascinated with the visual spectrum. As Mark got older, he continued to study the colors of the visual spectrum and came up with the theory that each color - when properly focused - produced a different effect. Red -affects heat (not fire) Orange - affects movement Yellow - affects mental capabilities Green - affects plant growth Blue - affects liquid Violet - affects what a person sees But he had no way of testing his theories. He took a teaching job at the local community college. His sister took a job as a music teacher at the same school. October 31, Halloween. The two siblings usually didn’t dress up for Halloween. But they were labeled as “Mr. and Ms. No Personality”, by the students. So they decided to dress up in the craziest costumes they could find. They never made it to the school. Instead all they remember is waking up in Telios’ lab. Luckily for them the Champions were fighting Teliios and he did not install loyalty in them - yet. They were strapped down on cots. Ava woke up first. Immediately she tried to speak to wake up her brother, but only music came out. Instrumental music. She tried yelling his name. A loud trumpet sound came out and broke all of the windows. He brother woke up. He was glowing. “Why did you yell out my name, where are we?” Tuba, Flute, Trumpet, French Horn “Of course I can understand you, why wouldn’t I?” Bell, Flute, Trumpet. “What do you mean you only make instrument sounds?” Soon it became apparent that he was the only one who’d understand her. But something else wasn’t right. First she kept hearing music come from her, and second; she had no hands. She started crying. Mark tried to break free. His arm turned orange, and his arm was out of his restraint. He didn’t know how. Mark unrestrained himself and his crying sister. The Champions were still outside. They’d know what to do. They went outside. Ironclad jumped next to Ava, immediately gave a blank look and started acting strange. He started walking on his hands. “Have you gone completely mad? Mark turned yellow, and Ironclad started acting like a monkey The Champions started attacking the duo. Whenever they got close to Ava, they acted strange. Mark turned blue, and the Champions were soaking wet. This, plus the onslaught of Telios agent, gave the duo enough time to run away. The duo were out on their own. “What happened back there? Why did everyone go completely mad when they got near you?” Tuba, Drum, Piano. “Yeah, you’re right my unlikely kaleidoscope of unpredictable colors doesn’t help either” The duo realized that Telios doesn’t like his “experiments” going AWOL. They were too afraid to go for help. Kaleidoscope still doesn’t have control over his powers. He has made seeds into full plants in a matter of minutes, water them, give them warmth. He is still a little afraid of testing his powers. No one else can even get within sound range or Mad Cap, or they start acting crazy. It doesn’t seem to affect her brother.

And his father abused him mentally and physically. So he retreated into his own mind. His own imaginary world. He created different personalties. One of his personalities, Mr. Big, is the schemer, and planner. One of his personalities could shrink down to flea sized. And one of his personalites always protected Irwin As Irwin grew and eventually moved out, he went into the scientific field. But Mr. Big wanted something more. He wanted to be in charge. He wanted to be behind the scenes, and make his own mob. So, just when Irwin thought he didn't need Handy, Mr. Big, or The Flea anymore. Mr. Big had other ideas... PERSONALITY Irwin is a meek, unassuming person. One you'd look over in a crowd. Handy (a drawing of a face - usually on his hand), is confident and protective of Irwin The Flea (shrinking personality) is bold outgoing, overconfident, and tricky. Mr. Big (uaually a puppet) is the thinker. He designs crimes for The Flea, Irwin, and Handy to pull off. He is "the brains of the opperation". He talks like a 1940s movie gangster. QUOTE Mr. Big: "Irwin, you watch the door, Flea, you surpise them - see? Handy, you grab the loot" POWERS/TACTICS Mr. Big has it all figured out. But the Flea is the muscle behind Mr. Big. He is very powerful, strong and (since he is flea sized) hard to hit too. Mr. Big often hires Thugs, supercriminals, and/or mercenaries. CAMPAIGN_USE The Flea would make a great mystery. Have the PCs trying to track down Mr. Big. If they get suspicious of Irwin. Have Mr. Big "call" or "radio", while they have Irwin under observation. To make The Flea more powerful, have each personality have different powers. Or have Irwin have Images to Hearing instead of a ventriloquist roll. To make him weaker, lower his shrinking or density increase. Plot Seeds: Irwin's dad never beat him while he was watching Lassie - the perfect dog. So Mr. Big starts kidnapping dogs, so Irwin can make himself the perfect dog - out of other dog parts. And there is a dog show in town. Now, he can get the Collie heart (loyalty), Border Collie brain (intelligence), Grey Hound legs (running), Pit Bull jaws (protection), Bloodhound nose (tracking scent)... and so on, all in one place. But Handy is worried that Irwin will get hurt, so he will leave cryptic clues for the PCs. Irwin sees a special on the exploits of Foxbat. Now he wants to become his follower. Maybe if he had a present to give him.... Mr. Big suggests bringing one of the PCs to him, and he has the perfect plan to separate him (or her) from the other PCs. Irwin is captured and in the mental ward. Mr. Big calls one of the PCs (or an authority figure they know) and threatens to blow up several buildings if Irwin is not released. The problem: Irwin has been under constant survalance and was no where near a phone when the PCs received the call. In fact, since his incarsaration, he has never even used the phone. Could they have been wrong about Irwin being Mr. Big after all? Hm, that didn't turn out the way I expected it...

    The Flea

This is a fun villain to roleplay.
  20. Re: Advice on how to gm 9 to 10 players in a Superhero campaign. Give each person his time in the spotlight for roleplaying purposes. Try to move quickly from one person to the next. Asking them "What does (enter name) do." You can only focus on one person at a time. Some players bore quickly. Be a lookout for those players. They tend to get up, walk around, and miss part of the conversation. Get to know the PLAYER"S personality. And if you can. Get a co-GM. 1/2 of the team can be with him/her and you can GM the other 1/2.
  21. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... ...you get kicked out of PS238 for being too weak ...Mermaid-man and Barnacle Boy can beat you in a strength contest. ...you take damage from "The look". ...You get entangled from trying to wear tights. ...You back off when someone tries to Presence roll you with a waving finger - and a "tsk tsk tsk."
  22. Re: Surprisingly Effective Builds? I was in a game once, where a player had a character with 16d6 of Luck. The GM allowed him to roll it 16 times (1 time for each d6) in a game session. He hogged almost every game we were in. Now as a GM, I cap Luck at 3d6. Also, a high PD/ED damage resistance (like 20 - 30), added to a 50% damage reduction. Even if you get through the defenses, if doens't hurt him much.
  23. I have a player in my campaign with Deolidfication: Affected by magic. So what is a magic special effect? If some being is summoned by magic, does that mean that it automatically have a magic special effect on off of its powers? If a villain has claws, but labeled them as "magic claws", are they in the magic special effect range? If a villain is "supernatural" - like a vampire- would he be considered a magic special effect? How far does one go to determine the limits of what is and is not magic? I know that Fantasy Hero goes into more detail about magic. But I do not have Fantasy Hero.
  24. Re: Worth a thousand words? Good write up. Gave you rep.
  25. Re: Worth a thousand words? They look married. So I wrote the story around that.
