  1. Besides making someone deaf, what does hearing flash do in combat? They can still attack. Just not hear. What other benefits do they have?
  2. I have a question about Altered Duplicates. Fist, let me reprint part of page 155 or 5th Edition Revised Duplicates may have different abilities, personalities, equipment, memories, or Disadvantages than the base character if the base character buys Duplication with this Advantage. They can even have their own Duplication power separate from the one that created them. For a +¼ Advantage, from 1-25% (ie up to one-fourth) of the Duplicate’s points can be spent differently (and/or one-forth of his Disadvantage points can differ). For +½, from 26-50% (ie up to half) of the Duplicate’s points can differ). For +1, 51-100% of the character’s points (and/or Disadvantage points) can differ. These percentages are guidelines, not absolutes, the GM may alter them as he sees fit. OK, I realize that the +¼ and the +½ are only guidelines. But I was curious on how you’d interpret the 1-25% and the 26-50%. (Which is why I’m asking the discussion board instead of Steve Long personally) For example: If a base character has duplication and the duplicate doesn’t have duplication; is that enough difference to use the +¼ Advantage? If a character has one personality flaw, but his duplicate has one different personality flaw (ie. Psychological Disadvantage); would the +¼ Advantage be used? I think the most confusion I have is passing into the 26 to 50% range. How do you determine what 26 - 50% is exactly. If the Powers, Characteristics, and Skill are all the same, but they have different special effects for the Powers; are they considered 26-50%? If a character has 150 points in Disadvantages - with 3 Disadvantages being Psychological Limitations; but his duplicate (being same in every other way) has 3 Psychological Limitations that are all different (but everything else is the same). Would this be considered 26 - 50%? Note: In this example lets assume that the Limitations are 15 point Disadvantages each. Would it be different if he has 4 Psychological Limitation Disadvantages? You get the point. What are your thoughts on this?
  3. Re: Cue theme music What would go good with Istvatha V'han, Empress of 1000 (or more) dimensions?
  4. You know Jaws is coming when you here his famous theme music. When you hear "Eye of the Tiger", you may think of Rocky. What Champions character go with which theme music or song? Is Dr. Destroyer a "Bad to the Bone" theme song? Or something more ominous? When Foxbat "walks" into the room do you automatically hum the words "I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell"? What do you think?
  5. Re: Help me get into Bricks. Mix archetypes. Like an Earth based "Energy Projector" plus, Density increase. I have a character just like that, and am just now getting to actually use my fists.
  6. Re: Super Psychos This is so everyone knows why I'm asking this question: Not long ago, (in games terms) one of my player's female character, Steele, kissed a red haired woman. (Steele is an author, and the woman was a fan). Steele did this so another hero could change costumes without being seen. The player of Steele mentioned it would be fun if this red haired woman would return. Thus, not long after that (in game terms) Steele is at an ice cream shop with another date. The red-haired woman walks by and interrupts. Steele brushes her off and the red-haired woman is found out to be the mob daughter, Cindy Cartell. Cindy believes that she and Steele are soul mates. The next day (in game terms), the ice cream shop (and nearby apartment building) are being set on fire by Blowtorch. Blowtorch is taken out. And Steele saves none other than Cindy. Cindy had put herself in harms way to prove that Steele loves her (and would save her). One of the other player's characters had to physically pry her off of Steele. That player mentioned it would be fun to have more criminals like Cindy. Needless to say, Cindy went to the mental institute, that very day. Now it's a week later at the mental institute... And one of the player's npc; (who has a work connection with Steele), his phone is in Cindy's possession. Cindy is still at the mental institute. The first floor of the institute is mainly offices, etc. 2nd floor is "normal" psychos. 3rd floor is "super" psychos. And to make matters even worse. One of the most powerful inmates, Comrad Bizarre, has broken out of his mental transform, and will probably escape soon. Oh, but the most fun part about all of this is... Well, as soon as my players see what I have done; I'll post it here. So far; the front security post is manned by a puppet, and a man who just drawn a face on his hand... So in retrospect; be careful what you ask for.
  7. Re: Super Psychos I know of at least 2 of my players that read theses posts. So I will reveal what I am doing with them AFTER they deal with it. I forgot 2 inmates: Cindy Cartell - a mob daughter, no super powers - but really good connections - obsessed romantically with one of the player's character (I'm talking about burning down a building, because she wanted to be saved from it - by the character.) Mezmo - hears voices - mentalist.
  8. Re: Super Psychos Blowtorch is a good one. but without his weapon, wouldn't he be in "normal" psycho ward?
  9. I need to fill a mental institute's 3rd floor (super-powered psychotic villains) I could use about 10 more. So far I have: Black Mamba - who thinks she's a snake - Snake powers Snap Shot - used people (laterally) as his canvass - Killing attack and entangle Solar Max - Thinks Nuclear Energy is of the devil and must be purged. - Solar powers Doc Kimmel - Pro Hitler, who tried to make everyone into a zombie. - Powerful thinker The Flea - Who is carrying a taxidermy dog made out of parts of other dogs (Grayhound legs, Bloodhound nose, Pit Bull teeth. Mastiff's ... um the dog's male) - um, a ventriloquist who thinks his puppets are alive - shrinking / super leaping Comrad Bizarre - A very powerful sorcerer who just managed to break out of his mental transform - Powerful sorcerer. Who else should I have? Note: Black Harlequin was in once and escaped. Foxbat was never captured before.
  10. Re: Create-A-Character Kyle was a loser. He was brought up into gangs, and worked his way up to become a hit-man for the mob. But Kyle not only liked killing. He liked watching people suffer s-l-o-w-l-y. So he sought out demons, technological experts, and anyone who would help him make people suffer. The slower the better. He doesn't even know who gave him his abilities. One day he woke up, and he cut someone the mob just wanted to be an example. The cut was small. But it started rotting the skin of the poor victim. A slow rotting of the skin, from just a small slice. Oh, how Kyle - no, the rotting slicer - loves his new found powers. Next: Negative Illusionist
  11. Here is another list for your enjoyment. This time for our favorite aliens 1. Nominees for favorite alien species from any genre (max 5 nominees) are... Do you prefer Vulcans, Klingons, or Parsied (Parsiedians?) or some other race? 2. Nominees for favorite TV aliens (max 10 nominees) are... Do you prefer Spock or Alf or some other alien? 3. Nominees for favorite movie aliens (max 10) are... Do you prefer the Alien (from the movie Alien) or Ming the Merciless (from the Move Flash Gordon) or some other alien? 4. Nominee for favorite printed material aliens (max 10) are... Do you prefer Superman, Ironclad, Martian Manhunter or some other alien 5. Nominee for most overlooked alien for any genre (max 10) are... Do you remember the Aliens from "V" TV show?
  12. Re: Changing into a costume I actually looked for that. I knew it was somewhere. Must have overlooked it. Thanks.
  13. How long does it take to change into a costume without instant change? A full Phase?
  14. Re: THE BOOK OF THE MACHINE: What Do *You* Want To See? I would like to see a section on cybermancy, cybernetics, Mental Powers vs Machine Class of Minds, Nanites, computer viruses, and anything else that even remotely may affect Mecnanon or his minions.
  15. Re: An area filled with Water. I hadn't considered Change Environment for a water wave - that sounds more applicable. and an entangle for an ice wave. - maybe with an area EB too.
  16. How do you make a power that can release an entire flood worth of water or ice into an area? Transform? TK? Energy Blast Area? Entangle? The water stays there, so it seems the most like a transform or Entangle. But it still doesn't seem quite right. What am I missing?
  17. Re: Pulp names and basics I love the radio programs. Thank you a lot! PS. The character has been around since the 40s not the player.
  18. I have a player who has been around since the pulp age. (it's a Champions campaign), but need help with hero names (and basics if possible). You see, I did just bought Madmen and Masterminds for the Pulp genre, (which is an excellent source for villains), but I don't have many hero names to use for reference purposes. So far I came up with the name "Lady Liberty". A heroine who uses a "torch" as a weapon - OK, now you can see why I need help. Note: The character has been around since the 40s. Thanks for any help you could give.
  19. Bricks: They can not only dish it out, but they can take it. I think it's a good time for "The Brick Hall of Fame". This is a list of your favorite brick characters. Whether it's the more popular Hulk, Superman, or Spider-man; or the less popular Tarzan, Kazar, or Doc Savage. Bricks are an important part of our culture. But we need categories. So... 1. Nominees for favorite comic book brick are... This should represent the comic book brick that you went out of your way for. The one that you just couldn't wait month after month for a new issue to come out. 2. Nominees for best supporting comic book brick are... This should be your next top 10 comic book brick. These are great bricks and NEED to be mentioned. Since I think that this could fill pages and pages of feedback on just this one subject; I'm asking the limit to be the top 10. 3. Nominees for most looked over comic book and novel bricks are.... This is the one that seems to get overlooked. But still needs mention. Again, since the subject could fill pages, let's also limit this one to 10. 4. Nominees for best move brick are... This is the brick that you LOVE from the movies that are NOT normally in comic books. For example: Rocky Balboa. 5. Nominees for best supporting movie brick are... This is again is one of your favorites, but still should be limited to 10. 6. Nominees for best Television brick are... Do you like the Six Million Dollar Man the best? 7. Nominees for best supporting television brick are... This is again one of your favorites not usually highlighted in comic books. Again; limit of 10. 8. Nominees for real life brick are... This is the ones you have seen on TV or the Olympics. Do you prefer The Big Show - how about Muhammad Ali? 9. Nominee for Hero Game brick are... This is your nominee for this game's favorite (or even honorable mention) brick. This should only include brick already published from Hero Games. 10. (optional) Include your own, personally made brick here.
  20. Quick question: Is it "Role playing" - like playing a role? or is is "Roll playing" - like rolling dice?
  21. Re: First role playing memory I honestly don't know if "The Keep on the Borderlands" was the adventure or not. My brother is the one who bought it. I don't know if I ever knew it even had a name.
  22. Do you remember your first role playing game and what happened in that game? I have a terrible memory but what I do recall goes like this: Back in the late 70s. I heard that my younger brother played D&D, but never knew what it was. One day he saved up enough money to buy his own "box set". If I remember correct it had the player handbook, monster manual, and dice. I was curious. Now my younger brother and I had differences and never did anything together. But he wanted to be a DM, and wanted to try it out. This was a rare. So we rolled me up 4 characters (since I was the only one playing). It was a strange concept. Playing by using your imagination instead of a board. Well I don't remember how we found out about the caves, but I do remember my brother asking me in which order the characters were going up. I don't remember the names or anything about my character, but I do remember seeing the entrance of the cave. He asked. "You see the entrance to a cave. What do you do?" "Um, walk in" "It's pretty dark in there." "We light a torch, and walk in". "#1 (insert name) falls in a pit trap" I was awestruck. I didn't say anything. "#2 falls in the pit" Stunned and shock "#3 falls in the pit." I wanted to yell Stop, but didn't. "and finally #4 falls in the pit. You are all in the pit. What do you do?" I remember trying to rope something on top and climbing the sides with no effect. In hindsight there are SO many things I could have done. But I drew a blank. "3 days pass, you are out of food and water. What do you do?" Everything I tried failed. "Your characters are dead. Do you want to try again?" "Uh, yeah." "OK, you see a dark cave. What do you do?" "Light a door and look for traps" "Why would you look for traps. You have no reason to look for traps. You've never been here before. You don't know there is a pit there." I think at that precise moment, I realized how different role playing was. "I guess, I walk forward?" "#1 falls, in a pit..." "Stop. The rest, sees the first guy fall into the pit and stop walking." "OK, they stop. #1 is in the pit. What do you do?" I began to cringe every time I heard "What do you do?" The rest is kinda a blur. So what is your first role playing memory?

    Cursed dice

I would love to hear your cursed dice stories. Now, we've all had games where the dice aren't exactly friendly. Where a roll here or a roll there is needed, but not even close. That's not exactly what I'm talking about. I'd like to hear stories where you're SURE the dice are out to get you. Where it's so bad your friends start suggesting that you roll for the bad guys, so bad that you start asking others to roll for you, so bad that the GM takes pity on you and says you can roll again, so bad... I'll let you finish that statement.
  24. In many campaigns. The GM sets up a situation and hopes that the players do something specific. Whether it is turning left instead of right, or walking away from a fight instead of fighting. I'm sure there are many examples of this and would like to hear your misdirection story. Example: My players have (on 2 separate occasions) talked their way out of situations rather than fight it out. It turned out way better than fighting, but that is not what I had originally expected them to do.
