  1. Re: Tropes Revisited: Beautiful Female Martial Artist. Ideas sought

It's going somewhat outside the trope' date=' Bob. And although fencers are to my mind Martial Artists, Jedi are similar are not. It sounds interesting and if you want to enter this design for the next Art to Concept I would definitely consider it. But your Infamous General will be subject to a vote in February as those designs that have failed previously will be given due consideration by the board as a whole.[/quote']Having a light saber does not necessarily mean that the character is Jedi-like. She's actually more MiB-like, with an unspecified Chinese martial art style.

Nonetheless, you're looking more for superheroic types, and Agent Wu is a sci-fi character, so I'll withdraw my (previous) objection.

  2. Re: The Cape - What do you think of it so far?

I actually am quite impressed with what they're doing. It's still early, and the show's still getting its "legs" on what the world is like. Unlike many older shows, it didn't have a pilot that just established everything and then left everything static until a cast change; information is given a little at a time, characters continue to develop with each episode, and we learn more about the world bit by bit.

Orwell appeared at first to be very Oracle-like, but she's quickly developed into something much more so that the resemblance is mostly superficial. (And I strongly disagree about her being written in as a love interest for Vince. Maybe for Rollo.) I think Summer Glau is probably glad to have a TV role that's "mentally normal" (after River Tam, Tess Doerner, and Cameron Phillips), and I hope the show lasts a long time, if only for her sake.

I do think the producers went into their "Create Your Own Villain" contest a bit prematurely. Only four episodes aired before the deadline, and nearly half the entries I've looked at on the list don't really fit the show's concept and milieu (not that very many of those submitters seem to have read the rules, with the "no superpowers" part being fairly explicit). We needed more time to get the feel of the thing. Still, they probably could populate the entire second season's villains from those fan submissions.

  3. Re: Tropes Revisited: Beautiful Female Martial Artist. Ideas sought

My clown suggestion was mostly facetious, but this one wasn't:

In my second novel' date=' [i']Realm Hunter: Trail of the Elder Gods[/i]*, there will be a character named Wu Mei-Zhen. She's of mixed Chinese, Madagascari, and European descent**, and has had three enhancement surgeries: one to make her eyes look like a cat's; one to implant a V-shaped ampulla of Lorenzini on her forehead; and one to give her two extra arms. She dresses in a black pantsuit with white blouse (kind of like MiB), and fights with a lightsabre in each hand.

*Not available yet; I'll have to sell enough copies of the first one that I can pay Adam Schmidt to do the cover.

**I picture her as being played by Rachel Luttrell of Stargate: Atlantis.

And what Ranxerox posted could possibly be combined with my first post.

  4. Re: Undead Labor: why not?

Is it just me or would Kim Jong Il have made a perfect evil necromancer?

Actually North Korea isnt far from walking dead, sadly.

Given that much of the discussion has been using zombies as food-handlers, this would probably be more like "wokking" dead.
  5. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine

I found the old (2009) Fabrica, and did up another submission for "The Cape." This one is Silencer, a Hindi-American woman who specializes in supremely concealed weapons. Her hairpins have poison-tipped needles; her stiletto heels have real stilettos; and her favorite weapon is her belt, which becomes an urumi.

  6. Re: Undead Labor: why not?

The biggest consideration' date=' IMO, would be how your campaign deals with the origins of the undead. You really don't want a large labor force of rampaging, life-hating beings in case you lost control of them.[/quote']Hence my above remark, re: lunch.
  7. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

Aww... thanks! I"m glad you don't mind the occasional foray outside of supers or fantasy art. I like putting it up.
Storn, whatever you post in the way of art is always welcome around here. You could do a portrait of Osiris and it would be Teh Awesome. :D
  8. Re: Estimated date for affordable and portable Augmented Reality?

I'd say a bit longer than that. Maybe in ten years certain types of professional will use them on the job, but it'll be a while before they're useful for everyone.

The professionals that come right to mind for me are soldiers, Secret Service agents, police (mainly SWAT and fugitive retrieval), firefighters, security guards, surgeons, miners, sports referees, and ghost hunters. These are the types that may need information on their situation requiring either constant monitoring or immediate attention.

  9. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine

The TV show The Cape is running a villain creation contest, and I'm thinking to enter. My main problem is that entries have to be accompanied by an illo, and I'm a rather poor sketch artist.

So I went and used a couple of the online character creators (and feeling frustrated because the English menus were taken off Fabrica).

The character is Payload, a man with both acromegaly and myostatin-based muscular hypertrophy. The combination makes him HUGE, not to mention massively strong. He's a gentle giant (as are most people with either of those two conditions), coerced into crime by the show's main villain.

These are the two pictures I was able to work up, and I'd like opinions on which represents the character better. (Or maybe someone can use Fabrica, or even your own hands, to do something even better than this.)

  10. Re: Side effects of eating alien fauna and flora?

I figure you can just listen to the side-effects disclaimer in any TV commercial for a prescription drug and pick from that list.

"Side effects may include memory loss, itchy rashes, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, memory loss, episodes of walking or driving while sleeping and not remembering the event afterward, confusion, increased blood pressure, memory loss... uh... did I mention memory loss? Oh, and consult your physician if you have an erection lasting more than-- wait a minute! Oh, dear God...."
