  1. Re: Help me fill my town.

I'm with L. Marcus. Trent could have a couple of younger siblings, and Charles and Marge could have a brood of their own. That would fill things out nicely. (It would even fulfill a trope/cliche if the person the demon is disguised as is a child.)

  2. Re: Atari unloading Cryptic Studios

Well, they wouldn't be able to make Super Hero; that phrase is jointly Trademarked by Marvel and DC. But they could probably come up with some other appropriate title.

There is a perpetual license agreement in place; Steve said as much when the sale to Cryptic was announced. I do hope there's a reversion clause, though the way I read things it's not really an issue in the current situation.

  3. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See?

As Armitage kindly pointed out' date=' I discussed the topic of "saving throws" in DH #18. That's about all I have to say on the subject, and I don't plan to put that material in APG2. It's a fun theoretical discussion but not really useful for the vast majority of HERO gamers, methinks.[/quote']That's a pity. I, for one, would at least have liked to see an extension of "Requires A Roll" to include "requires the target to fail a Characteristic Roll." Maybe a couple of paragraphs on that, and a small table?
  4. Re: The answer to the most important question in Space Sci-Fi

When I was writing an early manuscript for The Ultimate Vehicle, I put in a section on explosive decompression. I asked a few people to review the manuscript, and one of them looked at the title, thought I was talking about this, and decried it with "it's a myth, people don't explode in vacuum," apparently without actually reading the section. What I'd written was about vehicular explosive decompression, where a breach in the exterior bulkhead causes air to rush out. I'd actually never heard that term applied to what happens to people in space (and I already knew that exploding people is an inaccuracy).

Thank you for finding this, and hopefully there will be some way to include this information in Star Hero (if it's not already there).

11d6 Cosmetic Transform' date=' Does KB, Double KB (that's a valid 12 DC/60 Ap Power and let's just say: about 50% more Knockback than the 20 m average of a Killing Attack/Blast, Double KB or a 16d6 Cosmetic transform with Does KB).[/quote']

This is a fun idea. Steve could even take power builds from the forumites here' date=' for builds that are questionable but might have some applications. It could be a fun little "build a cheesy power" contest. Builds like Christopher's above strike me as "pure cheese" and should just plain be disallowed by a GM. But maybe a few examples of cheese might help out Hero Gamers who don't visit these forums. The emphasis I'd like to see would be on builds that might actually be reasonable, with some provisos of genre, character concept, and power levels.[/quote']

Actually, I suspect that the "Reasoning From Effects" rule would cover a lot of it.

No' date=' he's really named after the city in the state where all the anarchists live, ie the Emerald City, and no not Seattle. For a person from Corvallis, I thought this one would be easy. :o)[/quote']Funny, the only "Emerald City" I know of in Oregon is Eugene (named for Eugene Skinner).

Cattlestar Galactica (hey' date=' it's Bonanza meets BSG - try that one, Eward James Olmos)[/quote']When Donny and Marie Osmond had their variety show, Lorne Greene guested on one episode and they did exactly this. It was actually quite funny.
  8. Re: The Certified Resistance Review

I can see here that I won't be playing this, at least until I can get a new computer -- the difficulty will be simply too great with the laggy, awkward netbook I've been using. Once that happens I'll probably be jumping into it with both feet, especially if I can find teammates.

  9. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See?

I was re-sorting my Hero books the other and came across Tuala Morn. This made me think: Since it's highly unlikely we'll ever get a 6th Edition version of that book (and even if we do), it would probably be good to have the Geas Disadvantage updated into a 6E Complication. I think it has potential beyond just that setting, and even beyond fantasy -- some mystical superheroes or supervillains could have a Geas, it probably has a place in some horror settings, and it could even come up in certain science-fiction/science-fantasy settings (I could see it just about anywhere in the spectrum from Star Wars to Farscape).

  10. Re: Gorilla Grond - from typo's are mighty heroes made (6E)

Martial Mamhunter (though this one may have too much R-rated potential)

    Booster Golf (sports-related)

Among the ones already associated with Suicide Squid include Siderman (who goes around repairing damage after superhero fights with aluminum siding) and Swap Thing (the avatar of bargain basement hunting).

  11. Re: Idea to art by Storn. Year 8

I bet she calls him Major FASHION Disaster :)
That's kind of the idea. He was just a regular civilian caught up in the Battle of Detroit, and lost his left leg, left arm, left eye, and parts of his frontal lobe, most notably those controlling compassion, sleep, and fashion sense.

However, when dealing with him it's important to remember to first avert the volcano in downtown Millennium City, then make fun of his outfit.

Three separate Russian->English translators' date=' including Google Translate, didn't recognize that word.[/quote']My experience with Google Translate (though this may be a YMMV thing) is that it only recognizes languages in their native writing.
  13. Re: A real laser pistol? Power from vacuum? Photons affecting more than one electro

I'm strongly considering tracking down the papers cited in the post.

I'm skeptical for a different reason. Turns of phrase such as "t is a scientific fact, proven forever," "will revolutionize warfare permanently," and "rigorously proven for all time" do not strike me as something that would come from a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel with an MS in Nuclear Engineering. They have a much younger "feel" to them than I'd expect from someone who has lived long enough to get those credentials.

I'd also expect such a person to know that the US administrative department is called Homeland Security, not Internal Security.

  14. Re: CHAMPIONS BEYOND Sneak Peek: The Cover!

I knew Bob would pop in here sooner rather than later. ;)

There's good and bad news on one of your special interests, too. CBY names and briefly describes a number of "super" individuals and organizations from the Andromeda Galaxy -- from criminals to conquerors to cosmic beings -- but doesn't provide game stats for them. Although the book contains many full character write-ups, many others are referred to this way throughout it. Steve is right that he could almost fill up a "villain" book just from those. If CBY sells really, really well, he just might. ;)

This is about what I'd expect. And I hope the book does sell enough to spark a special villain book -- once Cryptic has their Moon zone ready (alas, not a priority; from what I gather, probably late next year at best), that will probably spark extra interest.

And hopefully such a book could include Blue Screamer. ;)

  15. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See?

I think the majority of the problem with wealth is the fact that a player with wealth doesn't just use it to flavor his character(I.E. The players need to get from San Francisco to New York and the player with wealth buys everyone first class seats.). Players tend to abuse wealth. I've seen things in gameplay such as bribing villains not to fight (I.E. I am filthy rich, here's a million dollars that I'll pay you to switch sides or Why take over America, I'll fund your war on Iran if you go attack there instead.) If you take away wealth, players complain that you are taking points away from them or they simply reallocate the points to something else. I hate it when I hear a player says something like, well, you took the Presidency away from me just because I ordered the invasion of Canada because I hate Celion Dion. I'll just reallocate those points into a new multi-power slot.

Personally, the way I look at things, perks are things which the GM can give or take away based on play. They should not be a way to store points. Maybe clarification is needed here.

This is a GM problem. I'm sorry' date=' but if your world's justice system is letting superheroes get away with funding super-villain attacks, that is in no way a rules issue. As for bribing villains to switch sides, please note that they are *Villains*. Such are not reliable.[/quote']

I have to agree here. However, a paragraph or two on how this kind of use of Money can have game-world consequences would be welcome. For example: reduced trust in the hero by established authorities, at least in a Champions or Dark Champions world; in the case of a bribed villain, what the villain does with his newfound wealth; and, of course, the number of other villains who find out about this and want a piece of that pie.
