  1. Re: Post-Apocolyptic Disney World There was a 3rd party Twilight 2000 module partially set in a PA Disneyland. There are tunnels under Disneyland allowing workers to move from place to place without disturbing the guests.
  2. Re: Five Innovative But Impractical Handguns As I recall the Gyrojet also had an issue with poor power at close range, it needed some distance for the round to get up to speed. The gun itself wasn't the most combat friendly either as I believe it had a fixed magazine that loaded individual rounds from the top. Being basically a prototype I'm sure the gun would have been modified if the round had proven more practical. On a personal note my grandfather owned a machineshop and he made a few gyrojet rounds as part of a bid to be a subcontractor. He didn't get a contract but had a few of the unfilled rounds as souviners.
  3. Re: Five Innovative But Impractical Handguns While 9mm isn't my favorite, I have a S&W M6906 9mm which I am very pleased with and would not hesitate to rely on when the zombies come (and they will). 9mm is an adequate round, its just that every body and their uncle came out with a high capacity 9mm in the 80s, making it hard get excited about yet another one.
  4. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Daewoo made the USAS-12, a select fire 12 gauge shotgun fed by a 10 round box or a 20 round drum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USAS-12 I always thought the Jackhammer was neat looking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancor_Jackhammer
  5. Re: Cool Guns for your Games The MG42 basically created a new class of weapon, the general purpose machine gun, GPMG or jimpy. I think he is just saying all the current GPMGs can trace their family tree back to the MG42. I always liked the description of the AK-47 as the StG-44 built the way the Germans never would have.
  6. Re: Five Innovative But Impractical Handguns Yep, I think that was the one. It looked somewhat like the Ruger .22 pistol but held a lot more rounds. I thought it was .22 LR though, it seemed like the ultimate pinking pistol. I remember another gun in .22 Magnum but I thought it was more like 15 rounds and aimed more at those wanting a small high capacity pistol for self defence (.22 mag would not be my first choice but against the competing 25, 32 and 380 acp pistols probably not a bad option). 1994 was quite some time ago, so I may be mixing a couple of guns together. I have a limited attention span for guns that don't use a .357 Magnum or .45 ACP.
  7. Re: Five Innovative But Impractical Handguns The Lemat is the only one that looks somewhat practical, the rest are under powered gimics. That machine revolver might be a fun plinker though. There was a 30 round .22 auto pistol that came out right before the 1994 "assault weapons" ban that looks like it could be that revolvers great great grand child. Are you sure the cylinder is removable? Most cap and ball revolvers have a snap cylinder so you just pull a lever and the cylinder pops out. This is what allowed an additional (loaded) cylinder to be carried like a primative speed loader. The Lemat looks like the shotgun barrel goes through the center of the cylinder which would make it impossible to pop the cylnder out. Looking at the photo of the disassembled gun it looks like you would have to remove the cylinder by sliding it over the barrel after disassembling the gun. It does look like it is possible the cylinder could be reloaded on the gun. I've never seen a real one, so all I have to go on is photos and vague descriptions of the gun.
  8. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Sig-Sauer actually won the evaluation for the new US service pistol, but Beretta came out cheaper for the package so won the contract. I have a feeling the M11 was a token to ease any hurt feelings, plus it is a nice gun. The Israeli's included a bottle opener on the Galil, this is just taking things to the next logical step... It makes you wonder sometimes. The Israeli's put the bottle opener on the rifle because soldiers were bending magazines opening Coke bottles. The US put a heavier barrel on the M16A2 because soldiers were bending the barrels using the M16A1 as a crowbar . Obviously there must be a problem with snipers misusing their weapons due to their drink placement.
  9. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far fails ego roll Hey, you're right it still says HERO on the front so its just a minor change. Off to find the place that puts holes in your head, clearly I need another one.
  10. Re: portable computers - too much? Also keep in mind many physical skills require muscle memory, that is why you practice. If the computer is a live feed into the brain providing the skill that is one thing, but if it is just a source of info, I'd limit it to fairly basic stuff. You can't just read a book then start an IV on a patient, it takes some actual skill to do, same with many mechanical skills, its not just unscrew bolt A, tighten screw B frequently there is a bit of the engine sounds right now, so that is good. For skills primarily focused on information it would potentially be easier to justify a higher than base skill. I would think it would best represent skill bonuses though. The PC is trying to impress the sauve super baddie with his knowledge of fast cars, the computer provides him with the info that the SSC Aero TT is the worlds fastest street legal car with a top speed of 256 mph, a full 16 mph faster than the super baddies McLaren F1 providing a +2 to his High Society roll.

  12. Re: Vehicle: Post-Apocalyptic Combat Car Well that answers my question about the engineering standards of the vehicle.
  13. Re: Vehicle: Post-Apocalyptic Combat Car I missed this in '06. Not sure what the intent was, jury rigged suicide mobile (no thought to safety), something engineered from what was available by someone who knew what they were doing (perhaps mad, but at least they have a clue how to make it work) or an actual manufactured vehicle, where there was some actual thought and availability of components to build something somewhat practical. If it is intended for mostly defensive use and limited movement is needed tracks are fine. If it is actually supposed to get around to patrol or attack distant bases I'd go with multiple wheels to make an armored car. Tracks are terrible for long range travel as they require a lot of maintenace per mile compared to wheels. If this is a jury-rigged vehicle based off of a civilian vehicle I'd consider using a 106mm recoiless rifle instead of a 75mm tank gun. For one thing they would be much easier to find since the 106mm was widely used into the 80s, 75mm guns were pretty rare after the 1960s. A 106mm can be fired from a Jeep so there is no problem mounting it on something larger. You could also put it on a swivel mount making the vehicle more useful. You could get really wild and make a post apocalypse Ontos with multiple 106mm Recoiless rifles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontos_tank
  14. Re: Cool Guns for your Games What kind of setting? The stats for the .500 S&W are about as much as you are going to get in a mostly reality based game. Yes there have been more powerful one offs but they are not really practical, mostly theoretically working wall hangers. In a game where physics are more guidelines than laws, guns like that .600 Nitro are much more viable. In something where physics only apply when it works for the story, something like a 20-25mm pistol are possible. Anything beyond that is really getting out there. Also don't get too hung up on the caliber, there is a ton of variation based on cartridge length. No reason you can't call it a 40mm pistol while using 20mm stats. The 40mm Bofors probably used to stat that 40mm above has a cartridge 311mm long, a bit much to fit into a pistol, but a cut down 40x100mm might work in the right setting. There are real 25mm pistols, but they are low velocity weapons more like a grenade launcher, many flare guns are around this size. Beef up the gun a bit and a higher velocity version functional as a real weapon for a really buff character would be possible. Similarly a revolver using the standard US 40mm grenade round would be something to consider, not really intended as a solid shot weapon but grenades have their own special features.
  15. Re: Cool Guns for your Games I remember that, I think 1 pip is generous considering most BB guns are more powerful. It would be getting pretty nit picky though to create a new damage system for one gun that was probably more of an exercise in making the smallest gun in the world than intended as an actual weapon.
  16. Re: Cool Guns for your Games One of my books lists this gun and comments that it might be useful for dispatching a belligerent mouse or cockroach. The 2.7mm round has a whopping 3 ft/lbs of energy. For comparison the .22 Long Rifle has 159 ft / lbs. The 2.7mm bullet weighs 3 grains, just 1/12 the weight of a .22 bullet.
  17. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Speak for yourself. Seriously though, it is all up to individual games. Some people may be fine with alien and fantasy races being exactly the same as humans except for a more exotic look, some may want to break down races into multiple branches, mountain dwarf, hill dwarf. Some may be fine with "jet fighter", some want to actually have seperate stats for F16 Falcon, F18 Hornet Tornado etc. Nice thing is the game works for lots of different types of player groups.
  18. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Actually you can make quite a bit of difference between different guns. Damage class is a good indicator of damage and penetration Stun X allows for for some variation, heavy slow slugs vs fast light slugs. RMod allows for the better range of high velocity rounds and long barreled weapons. AP, Red Pen, Piercing etc can be used to further modify the feel of weapons. Certainly light handgun (DC3), medium handgun (DC4), heavy handgun (DC6) are just fine for some games, but for those who want more flavor in their weapons HERO does just fine with a little creative use.
  19. Re: Cool Guns for your Games But of course... Phoenix Command, Mwahahaha
  20. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Sorry, got side tracked with gunbunny stuff. Looks good but I'd drop the damage to 1 1/2d6. It has considerably less energy than a 5.56mm which does 2d6. The 6x35mm is closer to the power of a .357 Magnum or .30 Carbine which both do 1 1/2d6.

  22. Re: Cool Guns for your Games One of those Calico guns with the helical magazines might work for you, they may have even been a bullpup, but I don't recall now. I think they were only available in .22 LR but I assume you are primarily looking at a plinker so that shouldn't be a problem.
