  1. Re: Analysis of the Red-Shirt Phenomenon in Star Trek

The Most Interesting Man in the World played a red shirt on Star Trek—and survived

It sounds like a bit from the Dos Equis commercials, but in this case, it appears to be true. Jonathan Goldsmith, who plays the beer company's Most Interesting Man in the World, appeared in the second episode of the original Star Trek series, "The Corbomite Maneuver." He only appears on screen for a moment, but he also doesn't get a death scene.

  2. Re: Flight while sleeping?

The first would simply require the Flight to be 0 END and Persistant. The second would (technically) require a Computer' date=' although it might be so inexpensive that handwaving it would be a viable option. The third would definitely require a Computer for an autopilot.[/quote']

What if the character in question is not an electronic life form?

I think you're being too literalist here. "Computer" in this case is not necessarily a mechanical device, but could be, for example, a subconscious urge, "keep flying toward destination" while the conscious mind catches 40 winks.

IRL, I have found myself sleep-driving often enough that I no longer drive. Longest that I know of was 30 miles without incident. And before anyone ask, none of my DWB stops involved sleep driving (that I know of).

  3. Re: Why do you poist WWYCD threads?

This is directed to the authors of "What would your character do?" threads. Do you have a goal for them? Are you testing potential scenarios for your games' date=' curious what other peoples' characters are like or just tossing off an interesting idea and seeing what comes of it?[/quote']

Yes, roughly in that order. Plus a quick shot of Methadone when I am really jonesing for a gaming fix and can't have one.

  4. Re: A Character Prone to Seizures when at High Levels of Energy

From the description, I would say she has the seizures under control. She can feel the energy building, knows it must be released. This could be a dependency, must use powers every few days; enrage if hasn't been in combat recently; physical limitation; etc.

When would she not be able to use her powers and actually trigger a seizure? Entangled? Twelve hour plane flight?

What happens during the seizures? She's unaware of her surroundings for a few seconds/minutes? Or gran mal with thrashing about? Or unintended discharge of her power?

  5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos

As i recall Black Sunday wasn't a particularly good movie. The notion of stealing the Goodyear Blimp must have been comfortably ludicrous even then.

Then again, that's what we used to think about crashing jetliners into skyscrapers....

Today, of course, movies have channels all to themselves so things like that won't happen anymore. And the Super Bowl is such a huge event now that security is obsessively tight.

Book was better. Blimp wasn't stolen, pilot was subverted.

  6. Re: Clothes only TK

Okay this is just a general consensus question. If some one has bought TK limited only to clothes would you allow them to lift someone by lifting their clothes? Also if you do allow that' date=' would you allow the person being lifted a STR/Escape roll to escape the lift?[/quote']

    Yes to both.

OTOH, the rules probably would not let you do that. I am wearing clothes. I can lift clothes by TK. If I am wearing the clothes I lift by TK, can I lift myself? A clear rules 'No'. Probably.

...and despite the fact thet TK is supposed to be reactionless.

However, there is nothing forbidding you buying your TK in a multipower, and making another slot in the multipower flight, with the Sx defined as TK.

So then add an entangle to the Multipower, with the limitation "Target must be wearing clothing."

I remember a game with a prison break. Shamrock was among the prisoners trying to get away. It seemed in character that he would have objected to wearing an orange jump suit ("the Devil's color!"), so was participating in the breakout wearing only his tighty whities.

Maybe add a NND to the multipower, only affects males not "going commando," Super Wedgie!

Probably yes (there's Marvel Comics character named Gypsy Moth who does this)' date=' though the limitation for 'only vs cloth' would probably be less than one might originally anticipate for just this reason.[/quote']

I was going to mention Gypsy Moth. That's how I wrote her up, TK, fabrics only.

  7. Re: What if there are no super-prisons?

That would require the characters to allow access to their secret base in the Marianas Trench to government inspectors. It would also require them to follow all federal guidelines regarding prisons' date=' which is not inconsiderable.[/quote']

Alternatives are to be legally guilty of kidnapping and false imprisonment, or declare the base a sovereign country. How big are the PC's on obeying the law?

  8. Re: What if there are no super-prisons?

Ditto to all the above. I can't see any government being willing to allow a private prison with no government supervision or control' date=' [/quote']

Therefore they, the government, licenses the facility as a private prison, sends someone by every three months to inspect.

  9. Re: NBC Revolution

Flipping the poles would have a damaging effect. It would essentially reduce the magnetosphere to nearly zero during the process' date=' resulting in more high-energy particles (radiation) hitting the surface of the earth. That would make for bad times if you had to go outside, but your electric motors would still work.[/quote']

Poles have flipped in the past, none of these changes seems to be associated with an extinction event, don't think the radiation would be that serious.

On the other hand, switching the poles is not going to be like flipping a switch. The field will "flicker," get weaker, get stronger, flip, flip back in a few seconds, for a time before it settles in to the new orientation. This could mean a decade or century of intermittent EMP's. If the motor's not running when a pulse hits, probably all right. If it is running, possibly end up fried.

  10. Re: Recorded Paranormal Abilities - Dark Champion Powers

The Double Muscle mutation has occurred in humans.

The mutations can result in a doubling, or even tripling of muscle mass in affected species. So far, at least two children have been documented as having such changes to their genes. One is a young, and very beefy, German boy.

"At birth, the boy appeared to be extraordinarily muscular, with protruding muscles in his thighs and upper arms," lead author Anneleen Stinckens, paraphrasing a report by pediatric neurologist Markus Schuelke, told Discovery News. "Before he was five years old, he could hold 7-pound weights with arms extended, something many adults cannot do. He has muscles twice the size of other kids his age and half their body fat."

Yet another boy, Liam Hoekstra, was diagnosed with a clinically similar condition. Stinckens said that, based on reports, Hoekstra was able to do pull-ups, inverted sit-ups, Olympic-style iron crosses and more just months after birth. He has even punched "holes into walls during tantrums," according to accounts, and once accidentally gave his mother a black eye.

They would have a distinctive look, and due to the low body fat they would have a difficult time swimming.

  11. Re: The Mastermind's Trophies

Dolphin will insist on returning the Golden Buddha to the Dalia Lama (NOT the occupation government of Tibet).

Cheeta will consider calling dibs on the mirror ball, realize it is totally out of scale for his apartment, and say nothing.

    All the rest, Warehouse 13.
