  1. Re: Power cost calculator? I use excel. If you search on-line you will find that alot of people have created excel character sheets. I have not gone that far I just have a sheet that I use that calcualte the active cost the real cost and the stun of a power for me. It's not too hard a basic understanding of excel will allow you to create such a tool. Granted it does require you use the computer to create your characters... But it's better than doing the math if your not into fractional math.
  2. Re: Hammerspace The bag of holding concept is what intiques me. I am thinking it would be some sort of teleport. Basically the item would be teleported to someplace else and you could teleport it back to you. I know teleport normally only moves the character, but I think with the right pick of advantages you could make it work. I guess you could do it as some sort of summon only problem is summon is based on the number of character points you are summoning and it's really meant for summoning other characters not gear.
  3. Re: Combat Tracker I got to admit... that I find a hex mat with tokens or miniatures representing the characters is he easiest. I think maybe I am old fashioned and just like to move figs around.
  4. Re: Is Find Weakness mispriced? I think of find weakness like I think about flash... It seems broken only because nobody ever takes lack of weakness. Just like Flash defense. The protection from the power costs less than the power does. It's just not a defense that every character starts with, but that defense is cheap to buy.
  5. Re: Instant powers No argument here. Find weakness is pretty close to broken. Worse comes to worse I'll just build the guy with the naked find weakness power and blow a half phase to find weakness then a half phase to do what ever else I will do that phase.
  6. Re: Instant powers Interesting take on it. You could just have it so he gets to add extra damage classes or extra CSLs for each round you are in combat with him... or his attacks get various advantages that take time to activate… I’ll contemplate that for this build But... This doesn’t address the root of my question because it could have effects on other builds too. Basically I want a power advantage that makes a power take less time to use. So in this case… find weakness is normally a half phase action… I want to make it a free action so a character can still take a full phase. Is there such an advantage?
  7. I had a concept for a character that was a sort of martial artist whose thing was the longer you fought with him the more he could read your moves. I am not going to lie this idea came to me after re-reading the find weakness power. the problem is find weakness is an action which takes a 1/2 phase. I have been trying to think of a way to make the power kind of instantaneous. Something the character does every time he gets a phase and it does not interfere with his normal actions so he doesn't have to spend all his time using his power. After all there is no point in knowing someone’s weakness' if you don't have time to exploit them. My original thinking on this was continuous or some other sort of advantage, but I could not think of one that makes an action take less time.
  8. Re: Does anyone really roll 30D6? Yep. I have had players who can use speed and/ or knock back to roll HUGE amounts of damage. Immagine a character doing a move through who has a high strength. He gets both his Strength dice and his velocity dice to that attack. not to mention the knockback that the poor victem would recieve.
  9. I was thinking about a villian that has a device that puts out some sort of sound wave or other emination that causes dizzyness, and disorientation. His henchmen would ofcoarse have gear that protects them from this effect. I was trying to figure out a good way of building this. My first thought was to do is as some sort of drain, but now I am leaning toward building it as some sort of mental illusion... Then I was thinking some sort of continuous flash effect. Basically what I am looking for is an AOE power that gives combat penalties to anyone not protected from it Maybe I am just overthinking this.
  10. Re: Big List of Disads These are awesome! Thanks alot guys! These are gonna be VERY useful
  11. It is possible that this question is answered in the erratta or elsewhere on this board, but I was creating an NPC with the growth power and I was going to give her armor that was linked to growth when it occured to me that the nature of growth is that it increases your strength, and strength adjusts your normal non-resistant PD... So my question is... While my NPC is grown does her growth strength effect her PD? If so. giving her a high resistive defense might be cheaper if I just bought her resistant defense rather than armor.
  12. Re: Money in Fantasy Setting Thanks for the insite. What they got sick of in D&D was the over complicated rules and constantly digging through books to confirm rules and such. Basically thier complaint is that D&D has turned into a beast where there are special rules in every new book and unless you are a very organized player and know not only what all your feats, spells, skill tricks and combat maneuvers do, but can also lay your hands on the exact page the descriptions of these things are on then the game take FOREVER to resolve simple actions. Basically thier complaint about D&D is mechanical not a setting issue. Sorry for ranting about the short comings of another system... I'll stick to talking about Hero from now on.
  13. Re: Money in Fantasy Setting Thanks for all the advice guys... there are some really great ideas here. I'll tell ya why I am looking for this info... I am running a game for a group of people who is new to hero system. They were previously players of the system that relys on d20s that shall not be named, and have become disenchanted by that system. So I agreed to intoduce them to hero system. I am trying to run a fairly classic RPG fantasy game (like forgotten realms), so low power magic items kinda need to be readily available, and some more powerful items float around for sale. I figured I have to teach them a whole new set of game mechanics I should probably be nice and make the setting something familiar
  14. Just out of curiousity... How do you guys resolve moey issues in Fantasy Games. The only guidelines I find in the basic book have said "In heroic games characters pay money for normal equipment" But... what about not normal equipment? What would the monetary value of a magical sword be? I have often tried to make some sort of formula based on the character points the item would cost if you were spending character points on it, but none have worked out, so in the end my system is just kinda arbitrary, but it would be great if I could just say... "This item would cost a character 15 character points so it costs 150 silver (10x15)" or some other simple formula. Even the monetary cost of mundane equipment is not covered in any hero books I have seen, so I want to know what the rest of you do? What does the money system in your heroic games (specifically fantasy) look like?
