Tolkien never said elves were vegetarians; only the Green Elves of Ossiriand were explicitly vegans. Considering how many elves were hunters, it would make sense that most elves ate meat.

I was reading a thread on the question as to whether same-sex marriages/couples exist among the elves of Middle-Earth when I came across that post. Myself, I must admit that I find it difficult - as a D&D enthusiast - to deviate from vegetarian elves thanks to an abundance of exposure to many intellectual properties that have consistently portrayed the sylvan folk as abstaining from the consumption of meat (intentional depictions or otherwise). Concerning The Forgotten Realms, I'd say elves overall eat less meat than the other standard Player Character races; the High Elves (Sun and Moon) would partake the least, the Wood Elves would be moderate and the Wild Elves (the most primal offshoot) along with the Dark Elves/Drow (the most brutal offshoot) would chow down the most. Avariel (winged elves) lean towards "less" and Aquatic Elves lean towards "more".

Why these of all items? There are advantages for both the DM and the players: they're finite (and therefore less likely to upset a game over the long haul), they aren't based on a Weapon Proficiency (so anyone can get in on the fun) and they open up options normally reserved for spellcasters alone.

The first amendment is often misunderstood. Let me start with this: First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Now, there are parts of the amendment that focus on religion, and protesting, which can be considered a form of speech, but I want to focus specially on the what freedom of speech means in the context. The amendment protects the press and their ability to criticize the government. To say that differently, news organizations both operate independently from, and are constitutionally permitted to be critical of the government. While it is often taken to mean, one can say anything they want, freedom of speech, does not mean freedom from consequences. One cannot should fire in a movie theater causing a panic and use the first amendment as a shield for their actions. This also means that private platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube, can regulate speech based on whatever criteria they set. The Legal Eagle channel has some great videos around this topic. The question was posed, what types of restrictions should be imposed on freedom of speech. This is an interesting idea, and I think my answer would fall on the idea of what constitutes a news source. There was a study that showed people, on average, who primarily consumed Fox News over other news outlets were less informed than people consuming no news coverage at all. The university conducting the study ran the study a second time with a larger sampling of people because they could not believe the results. More recently, Fox News successfully defended themselves by arguing quote: The "'general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary.' " So, here's my take, if your organization actively misinforms their viewers, they should not be considered a news source, be allowed to claim they are a news source, nor maintain protections under the first amendment. More so, any claims from such organizations that they are reporting as news would be considered liable in potential litigation, i.e. you cold not use the Tucker Carlson defense. Everything in this post, outside my personal hot take, can be sourced, if you want to it up.

Update From House Dok: PDFs & New Projects

After realizing the looming scope of Covid-19, a little over two years ago, we moved all House Dok PDFs (https://housedok.itch.io) to PWYW to help people struggling financially due to the pandemic. This helped to expose new people to our games, it also meant putting aside new projects. Of course, this also gave us the opportunity to work with some great creatives like the minds behind Accessible Games and Omens Rising which has been a blast. Now it's time to get back our core products.

With itch[.]io's rewards system, we are pivoting to community copies, to help pay it forward while supporting Metahumans Rising and Fractured Kingdom. This along with our Patreon will help us refocus efforts on expanding the world of Metahumans Rising. We're assembling a team for our first major expansion, building on the world first introduced in the Metahumans Rising character creation and the Steel Aces comic (https://housedok.com/comic/playing-jacks-part-2-page-6/) along with new character options, factions, tools for both the players and GMs.

Curious what cooking? Need a Death Star sized star base? How about an undead cult, or a scrapyard gang that recycles alien tech? We've got you covered. Our timeline covers 90 years of superpowered action. All patrons have access to the working version.
