Cancer
Re: The Last Word Meanwhile, I get to create an exam tonight and grade some lab notebooks. The latter is more painful and time-consuming for me than the former, but messing up the former has other adverse consequences.
Bazza
Re: The Last Word I would have thought that you would have a pretty standard template of exams with questions. or does the curriculum change every semester?
L. Marcus
Re: The Last Word Well, you have to have new questions every time, right? Students have been known to cooperate, the bastards.
Bazza
Re: The Last Word why have new questions; sure change the names etc, but the question structure can stay the same.

Bazza
Re: The Last Word why? don't they use modified tute questions for the exam where you are from? Not all the time of course but some of the time? like, you done it all anyway, not just have to put it all together in a 3 hour time-block/time-sink

Bazza
Re: The Last Word tutorial question. the session after the lecture to reinforce the lecture material. We have the lecture first and then a tutorial where we go over the material in a class setting. Usually it involves homework to complete. typically taken out of the questions at the end of the chapter in the textbook.

lemming
Re: The Last Word One of my worst college courses was Huffman. He never deviated from his previous classes, so notes taken from a couple years back applied.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word I'm used to teaching in environments where some segments of the student population consider it their duty to, ah, maintain records of professors' exams. So I change my exams every time. I've been giving my exams from 3 years back (when I first taught this course) as practice study aids this term. This is also only the third time I've taught this class, so I'm still building up experience about what students find challenging and what they don't, as well as adjusting the overall level and length. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Yes on some things, no on others. I've given up on pop culture after about 1982. And that date is retreating further into the past faster than the advance of time (so in five years time I'll make the same statement with the date specified as about 1979).
