Citizen Keen
So, recently, I saw a reference to Larry Niven in the Sex and the Single Superman thread. Then, I saw Cyber HERO related thread. And it hit me! Dream Park HERO! How much fun would it be to roleplay world champions in Dream Park? Or Dream Park staff? Investigating mysteries, rushing to make adventures work, and occasionally just settling in to your roles and playing! Granted, roleplaying about roleplaying might get a little deep, or a little silly, but I remember reading those books and really getting carried away. Who's with me? Any ideas? Hyper-Man
Re: Dream Park HERO! I think it's one of those great ideas that absolutely require that ALL the players read the source material. The Amber Diceless RPG has this same problem. I think it would be very fun. But I am biased having read nearly every Niven book ever written. HM
Dr. Anomaly
Re: Dream Park HERO! There is a Dream Park RPG system (now defunct, I think). I've got it; it's rather clunky and leaves a lot to be desired. I have played in the Dream Park universe, but the GM used the Cyberpunk 2020 rules for the game. It was fun!! Fitz
Re: Dream Park HERO! Roleplaying GMing/running LARPing? That sounds like the sort of thing that opens a rift in the time-space continuum and sucks one into an alternate universe. I'm not saying it's not a good idea; just be careful, that's all. tancred
Re: Dream Park HERO! Dream Park and its 2 sequels are high on my list of Niven's best work. And he's done plenty of good work. I've wanted one of those wizard's staffs ever since I read that book.
TheImperialKhan
Re: Dream Park HERO! An article for running Dream Park like games using HERO was presented in Hero System Almanac 2. It was titled Running Cinema Campaigns! and written by Bruce Tong and Greg Lloyd. Of course it was for 4E but you shouldn't have any trouble using it with 5E or 5ER. Hyper-Man
Re: Dream Park HERO! Even RINGWORLD THRONE? (/shudder) Unfortunately yes, Ringworld's Children made up for it though. HM
Susano
Re: Dream Park HERO! Unfortunately yes' date=' Ringworld's Children made up for it though.[/quote'] Hmm... maybe I should give that a try. "Throne" was a novel that was truly GNDN (goes no where, does nothing). I just finished rereading Ringworld Throne as a set up to rereading Ringworld's Children. It is a much better read as a transitional set up between Engineers and Children. Ringworld's Children brings back the Earthlings as protagonists rather than just observers. Ironically, Throne was the only one of the series I got Larry to sign. Hey, at least you've had an opportunity to meet him. The closest he's come to Tampa was a convention last year in Jacksonville that I couldn't get to. I'm so Jealous!
