Millennium City- Your plans?

Now that everybody who is ANY body has this wonderful little book... ;) Okay, now that some of us are lucky enough to have it in our greedy little mits and have read it... I was wondering, does anyone have some 'personal touches' they want to share on what they are going to add /elaberote on it?

I realize there might be SPOILERS on this thread, so if you are a player and not a GM, you might want to be good and not look.

I, for one, have some infernal plans for the 'Incubus club'... heh heh :)

I don't have the book yet, so I guess I'm not ANY body. :( However, from the hints and clues that I've picked up about it, I have made some tentative plans to use it as a site to visit in my campaign, with one significant change - the city's location. I would like to move the supers action away from the urban centers of the East and West Coast and the Great Lakes. I also may be in the minority in liking to keep Detroit the way it is. ;) So, I'm considering moving Millennium city to the site of another Champions Universe settlement: Haynesville, Kansas.

Wait, here me out. I prefer that fictional cities be in places where no major urban center already exists, like San Angelo and Vibora Bay, and the idea of a hotbed of super activity in America's heartland appeals to me. (Okay, maybe there's a little inspiration from Smallville at work, too. :o ). So I decided on a couple of relatively minor "what ifs" to the history of Haynesville. I changed the Cottonwood Stream to the Cottonwood River, a tributary of the Arkansas; and I allowed the railway that bypassed the "official" Haynesville to be built in "my" Haynesville after all, prompting more rapid growth. The tourism benefits of Captain Patriot's origin, and the presence of McLaughlin Air Force Base spurred more development. On top of that, scientists involved in the Haynesville Project and its successors often settled in Haynesville and started their own companies, putting the town at the forefront of the burgeoning high-tech industry. By 1992, Haynesville was a modern city with a diversified economy and a population of nearly a quarter-million.

When Dr. Destroyer decided to cripple the United States, he chose Haynesville as the base for his scheme because of its proximity to the center of the contiguous U.S., and because the facilities of the air base suited his plans. The remaining events played out as in the official CU. The devastation was just as widespread, the loss of life just as great, and the rebuilding followed a similar plan.

One notable exception would be that the Detroit River which is a boundary between Millennium City and Windsor, Ontario would be the Cottonwood River here. On the other side of the river were the parts of old Haynesville which escaped the destruction. That area became the residence for many of the laborers who flocked to build the new city, and stayed to work in Millennium City. This area is now almost as populous as the original Haynesville, and has been incorporated as the city of "New Haynesville". Unfortunately, New Haynesville did not grow according to a plan like its larger neighbor, and is far, far less "utopian".

I'm hoping that nothing in the Millenium City book will invalidate this scenario, but we'll see.

(Well, you did ask.)

Sorry there Lord Liaden. :) You're a somebody, really.

While I'm joining in the 'great Detroit kerblowie' of 92', I like your ideas. I might develop Haynseville along similar lines, or at least set it up so local heroes could do so.

............

On the Incubus club idea... So far I've narrowed it down, if anyone has a preference, or input on that, let me know.

Option 1: The Champions destroyed the DEMON Hame, during that battle... well, it got ugly. Things most foul were released, and at least one Agent ran for his life, at last understanding what his masters were like.

Drake Patterson learned his lesson, and while still a sleeze ball, he has given up his infernal practices. He formed the Incubus club from some illgotten gains (And the credit cards of some ofh is fallen brothers) and is happy to leave DEMON behind. He's also rather nervous they might come for him again. He'd make an excellent if untrustworthy contact should a hero find out.

Option 2: It maybe called the Incubus, but the manager is actually a vampire. He was resting, when Doctor Destroyer's destruction of Detroit awoke him, and the flames of burning wreckage nearly consumed him. It was a sobering thought, and now the vampire feels he is forced to play the game just to survive. Being a mere predator is no longer enough. Using his own piercing gaze to mesermize some, and turning some of the more promising customers into lesser vampires; he spreads his influence night by night. He is begining to suspect he needs to ally with another faction, but is unsure of which. The Circle of the Scarlet Moon offers more power, but Talisman, ah, there is a woman to ally with.

Option 3: Fashioned on a ley line knot, no one group of magical beings owns or controls the club. But it attracts all sorts of mystics and magic entities, and even potiential mystics may find their gifts surfacing. For this reason, L'Ingstitut Thoth often has one of it's trainees in the supernatural field there observing in a fashion not unlike bird watching. It's not a hell mouth, but it's certainly something.

Option 4: Real Incubus lives here, the X rating of such creatures makes it impossible to elaborate :)

I've been running in Millennium City since before the book came out. (This is partly because I live less than an hour from Detroit and ran several campaigns there.) At least now I have a map! Mine is more walkway-intensive than the official version appears, based on comments made on these lists when Darren was asking for input and suggestions. In my MC, you can practically walk across the city without touching the ground.

In my campaign, I added the Boblo Blimp. (It's been submitted to Digital Hero as the Bayside Blimp, moved to Vibora Bay at Darren Watts' suggestion.) A dirigible casino and tourist trap, its been the setting of several battles and had a side role in several other adventures. (And yes, I know that it's not a blimp, but I have reasons for calling it that.)

I also plan to do something with the salt mines under the city, though I'm not sure what yet. (For those not from the area, there is a rather large and extensive salt mine under Detroit and suburbs.) In a prior campaign, I did have a villain try fuel-air bombs in the mines to level the entire city. I need to think of something else.

Cool, when Darren first asked us (On the old boards) for input and ideas on MC, I reccomended a similiar thing called "Z-Tours" , where the wealthy could float above the common crowd in the lap of luxury.

How about a club for mystics ala DC's Club Bewitched (recently featured in Paul Dini's wonderful Zatanna one shot), sort of a mystical Neutral Ground where magic users leave their feuds at the door and just kick it.

My own campaign is set in Chicago, and its proximity to MC has inspired me in several ways. Since Chicago is so close to Detroit, the local hero team (The Peacekeepers) was one of the first batches of heroes to respond to the Battle of Detroit and lost 3 members and gained 2 who had origins during the battle. Mayor Daley, in response to the flood of refugees, erected low cost housing on the site of Meig's Field (I thought of this before he actually did tear up Meig's). The refugees have since left and the housing is now under the control of a group of Morlock-styled superhumans.

Actually, I haven't read that comic, but I like the idea. It would mix in with, and expand upon option 3. In a city as high tech as Millennium, a mystic or magic being probably would like the company of like minds in a social setting.

"Beware my friends, the wolf spirit craves beer."

"Garm!"

*Key Cheers theme song*

;) Okay, not quite like that.

Well for one thing the MCPD are losing the .45s. Millennium City is the City of the future so why are its Police Officers carrying yesterdays hardware. I mean the .45 ACP was developed in the 19th century, this is the 21st. My MCPD will carry the .35 Plasma Pistol with 4 settings - stun, AP, pen, and kill; dc of 6 or 7.

Also I'm probably getting rid of the Champions. I just don't care for them. They'll be replaced by the PCs or The Knights of Tomorrow a team of 4 men and 3 women all with some form of futuristic background:

Centurion - The Powered Armor wearing Genius.

Supreme - The Flying Brick who recieved is powers from Aliens.

Crackshot - The Energy Projector armed with a High-Tech Blaster.

Fusion - A second EP blasted from another universe and controlling nuclear energy.

Saber - An energy blade weilding Martial Artist that used to be a PRIMUS Agent.

Cyber Mistress - The cybernetically enhanced Brick/Gadgeteer.

and MindStar - A natural Mutant whose mental powers have been augmented by genetic engineering.

Other than that I'm not sure yet. I'm still reading the book.
