We are good to go on using the Plague of Perruques module as an intro if we want to. it has appeared in a Traveller Digest and is in one of the Traveller Reprint volumes.

heres what we need to talk about:

 

Marc has concerns that were going too far with this, conversions are not a problem, it just cant be a stand alone book that somebody can pick up and use to play Traveller in the Hero system without having a copy of traveller in some form. so we should probably take time to review where were going with things if needed. were also assuming that somebody is already going to have the Hero system or will buy Hero too. hes not unhappy about the project, just hes set the limit for where we can go with this.

Marc also hasnt completely looked over whats in the draft, but thats his take from what hes read, Marc has at least looked over the Hero system at some point, but isnt that familiar with it.

 

As I've been adding more detail to this, I was thinking the monster was getting too big.

 

Okay, depending on what Marc says, we have probably two options. First, slice out stuff until we get conversion only material, plus the scenario. Second, if it's viable, get licensing rights from both Marc and Steve and redo the thing. The writer in me would like to do the second, but I think we're safer with the first option (and my wife and foster child do like to see me on occasion ;) ).

from talking to marc, I think were best off with option 1, in all seriousness, we also dont have to cut out all the non conversion material, we need to keep the web resources and section on the different traveller versions. since your handling compiling and editing. I figure having you get with Marc is probably the best idea.

Yeah, I agree.

 

I just sent him a note asking how he wants to handle working with me on this, given that it's not a money-making project for either of us and we definitely don't want to infringe.

 

We'll see how it goes. I imagine the history chapter and military orgs chapters will go away completely.

Introductory scenario synopsis

 

Plague of Perruques:

A Traveller Hero scenario for 4-8 players.

 

NOTES: originally published in 1985, and first used as a tournament scenario for the Frontier Wars convention, its copyright 1985 by GDW, This is used with the permission of Marc Miller. Per Traveller Digest#10, Marc Miller is listed as the author.

 

THE CHARACTERS:

The characters can come from any backround, there will need to be one noble whether as a PC or NPC, and at least one person with some kind of hunting/fieldcraft skills. The characters will not need access to a ship

For this adventure.

 

THE SITUATION:

The Hostilities of the Fifth Frontier War are only recently concluded. The Regina subsector is now recovering from the ravages of the war, many worlds were battlefields, while others were cut off by blockades, sieges, and enemy raiders. With recovery comes a reopening of the subsector. The adventurers have been recruited by Genidiirsi Hault-Reitan as part of an informal team visiting worlds in the subsector. The Baron Reitans purpose is two-fold: He has been visiting his own holdings on various worlds between Regina and Efate, and helping in the recovery by managing problems that have come up. The entire group set out from Regina some months ago. Baron Reitan arranged passage for everyone along the spinward main as far as Efate. Stopovers at each world have averaged about a month. UAKAYE: The Group has just arrived on Uakaye, The Baron has planned a short stay, primarily to allow a hunting expedition for Redbacked Slonths, a carnivore native to Uakaye.

 

THE HUNTING EXPEDITION:

Baron Reitan has contacted a local outfitter, gotten some maps, a few guidebooks, and an aerial survey. Redbacked Slonths are in season, now migrating to the north shore of Triante, Uakayes largest island, this territory is mostly forest. Hunting Slonths is a test of locating their spore and following it til the slonth is found. Slonths leave a vile smelling spore trail exuded from a gland in their tails, which frightens the smaller animals that are slonth prey. A network of these spore trails can channel prey to the slonth, making its hunting easier, and more efficient . Since slonths have no natural predators, the trails don't lead predators except for man.

 

REFEREE SYNOPSIS:

This adventure is in two parts, an initial hunt for the Redbacked Slonth, and then an investigation into the cause of a plague that is ravaging Uakaye. The hunt is brief and simply allows the players to learn to work together, the real adventure is the search to diagnose and treat the plague.

 

NOTES:

The original version of this had six different causes, the tournament version only used the first cause

ok, this is doable its just going to take some time, or asking a friend with a scanner to scan this, if I can get it scanned, whats the best format to use?

I am not sure its going to scan well do to the condition of the copy I have

this is from the original judges packet that we got at the con... I was one of the judges at that con

It would be nice if they could scan it into PDF so I could grab text and maps, but barring that if they can scan the text into a word doc or txt file, and the maps into jpg or tif format, we can use that.

I haven't heard back at all from Marc (could be on vacation). I'll get formatting stuff done in the meantime, and the scenario added, but I'm thinking I will duplicate the current version and strip the copy down (which is what we would make available) so that those who own or buy Traveller books can have the history, etc. and those who don't or won't buy the Traveller books just have some HERO-style Sci-fi packages and weapons and stuff. I can certainly understand Marc not wanting us to give away the store, and the stripped-down version is probably the best way. Thoughts?

 

edit: and the links and pointers to web sites and stuff would stay in.

theres somebody new posting over at Star Hero fandom that has some new ideas on starship stuff, we might end up reworking a bunch of things... this should be a good thing, hes got a good backround with traveller and Hero and has already pointed out a couple of things I goofed on probably

I hadn't seen this thread till now (rarely visit the genre sections...)

 

A Traveller writeup PDF would be sweet. I can do graphic design, templates, custom starship deckplans, organization logos, and possible weapon illustration, and I have Acrobat 7... IF you need my help, that is. If you don't need me, I'm busy. If you DO need me, feel free to PM or email me. ;)
