"How's the squid today?":

Rice Dreams (A new sushi / hibachi restaurant) opens in Campaign City - not the first of it's kind, but definately the nicest looking and the highest rated in Campaign City's Fine Dining Guide. Business is good at first, but as the people of Campaign City are [unimpressive NPCs], they are easily impressed by new restaurants and their constant flow of business is interrupted by a new restaurant (Pigs in a Blanket -- only sells corndog nuggets, peas, and cherry slushees -- but the place is packed everyday!).

Luckily for Rice Dreams, the people of Campaign City are in for a huge taste treat when they import a whole new team of chefs from an undisclosed location, and they bring with them a whole new list of recipes and business jumps back up. Their new hit dish is a beef-based dish that is marinated in some sort of sauce that makes the meat tender and sweet, and the people of Campaign City can't get enough.

However, in a "completely unconnected" situation, the homeless population of campaign city is decreasing at an amazing rate... maybe the mayor is doing a great job at lowering the unemployment rate? Hmm...

As Seen on TV!

Gizmos-4-U (http://www.gizmos4u.com) is the purveyor of junk merchandise of various descriptions - the kind of stuff that gets advertised at absurd hours of the night when only shift workers and insomniacs are awake; things like the Button-o-Matic ('throw that needle and thread away for ever!') and the All-American Kitchen Wizard ('with twelve adjustable blades for every culinary occasion!'). We've all seen this stuff, sometimes we buy it, and very occasionally it works for longer than two weeks...

But what would Our Heroes make of it if people they knew, people who should know better, start maxing out their credit cards and draining their bank accounts to buy shoddy junk like the Glow-in-the-Dark Sea Gibbon Aquarium ('hours of fun for the whole family!)? What if your team's gadgeteer starts wondering how he lived without things like the Sonic Sleepy-Bye ('lulls your infant to sleep in minutes!')? Subliminal advertising? Could be - but Gizmos-4-U operate out of a run-down warehouse on an industrial park and their people seem bemused by the whole thing. So what's causing Campaign City to be buried in a mountain of cheap tat? And who gains from it?

Memories of the Minotaur Taurus, leader of the team The Zodiac (no relation to the 4th Ed. team intended, of course), is attempting to recover several artifacts he used to own in Ancient Greece. The problem is, many of them are in museums now. The characters must discover the cause of all the museum break-ins, and try and stop Taurus before he recovers something really dangerous. As a complication, he could use other members of his Zodiac team to support his robberies, or to distract the heroes. And who is to say that the mystic artifact one of the heroes uses as the source of his powers didn't have a former owner, who wants it back.......

“Whatever Happened to the Liberty League?â€

Truth be told, the Liberty Baseball League wasn’t much, just a few minor-league teams of 4-Fs cobbled together to keep the folks entertained on the WWII homefront. That changed when a fleeing Nazi spy tried to hide out on the team bus of the Poughkeepsie Patriots and ended up dousing the entire team with the super-soldier serum he had stolen. The minor superpowers they gained weren’t enough to rate them a spot at the front, but were enough to give them a measure of fame as they traveled the country as the Liberty League, playing exhibition games and collaring mundane criminals and the occasional Axis saboteur. When the war ended, the team faded into obscurity.

But recently, bodies have been turning up, very old men who died very unnatural deaths. All of them were members of the League. Who’s killing them, and why? All of their old foes are dead or incapable of killing anyone. Cryptic notes left at the scenes mention a date, a date none of the survivors will talk about. If the murders stick with the pattern, the last member will die on that date. What is their 60-year-old secret, and can the PCs uncover it before the last of the League falls?

Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag

A Day in the Life of (Hero or Hero Group Name)

A camera crew starts following the player character(s) around, preferably with permission, but perhaps not, in order to do a special on their daily life.

Possible complications:

1) One of the cameramen is actually a VIPER operative, and his camera is an Invisible Effects DEX Drain device that he will turn on when the player character goes into combat.

2) The show's producer has hired some criminals to pull off a staged crime to ensure there will be some exciting footage. Naturally, the criminals have decided to skip the "staged" part of the plan and actually commit a crime.

3) If one of the player characters is a glory hound or egomaniac, the show is not about him, but his least liked teammate. The camera crew will do everything in their power to avoid filming the glory hound and concentrate on their desired subject, and say so.

4) An opponent suddenly notices the fight is being filmed, and starts playing to the camera with flashy (and dangerous) uses of his powers.

5) A megavillain, way beyond our heroes' normal capacity to handle, shows up and humiliatingly defeats the player characters on camera. Fortunately, a megahero then shows up and saves the day. Was this a coincidence, or did someone plan for that to happen?

6) The shooting itself goes smoothly, but when the program airs, the player character(s) discovers that the story has been heavily fictionalized, including an entirely made-up subplot about the character's Secret ID. (This should not resemble the actual Secret ID, but be...plausible...to the public.) Despite the "some scenes were reconstructed" disclaimer, quite a few people in Campaign City believe the program's storyline. This should create some problems for the player character; worse, the actor who played his Secret ID is being stalked by not-very-bright villains....

Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag

Doomsday Tango

A secret sub-stratospheric jet holding a doomsday weapon has been hijacked.

Either the crew has snapped and/or a group of villains/agents have taken it over. Unknown to the villains, the device (codenamed, "Doomsday Tango")has become operational (either intentionally or by mistake, perhaps as a result of the initial highjacking).

The PCs have to somehow catch-up to the jet, get onboard, fight the villains and eventually defuse/shut down Doomsday Tango.

Complications:

-Any missed attacks could be especially hazardous in a decompressed environment (see Pages 188-191 of The Ultimate Vehicle )

- The pilot is dead or otherwise out of commission and the flight controls have been damaged. The jet is completely out of control !

- Two Black Jets are dispatched to tail Doomsday Tango and monitor the PCs progress. They have orders to shoot it down if the PCs don't succeed by a certain time frame (or perhaps their orders are to shoot down the jet regardless).

"The China Syndrome"

There is someone new in Compaign City. There is nothing unique or special about this person (no superpowers). However this person is both extremely intelligent and exceptionally charismatic. The problem is that all the orientals in the area believe his message - that all supers and non-orientals are evil and need to be destroyed. How will the heros convince the orientals that this person is actually a self-serving egomaniac? Another option is that this person is actually a pawn being used by some other behind the scenes.

“Till Death Does Us Partâ€

Campaign City’s graveyard for those condemned on Death Row has some of the foulest murderers ever to be buried in the state. The sheer evil these men have done is a source of power for the Necromancer who is daring enough to tap it. One such mystic (Perhaps Dirge of the Choir) attempts the ritual only to have it go horribly awry due to outside interference (either from a rival mystic or the PCs perhaps). Instead of summoning individual spirits, the collected remnants of the damned souls twist and merge forming a new being entirely, a spiritual gestalt referring to itself simply as “Usâ€. Us escapes and begins to act out on the various revenge schemes and other obsessions of its component parts, hunting down the people who put them away, or, if that is not possible, their descendents. Unless the PCs have a potent mystic of their own, defeating Us for good may not be possible without the help of the Necromancer who set it free in the first place.

Hero Sandwiches

Once every five years Mystic, an NPC superhero, must preform a magic ritual or he loses his powers. This time he botches it and instead of being recharged he is drained and left with a seemingly insatiable need for magic power to keep himself alive. Unfortuantly the only way for him to absorb this power is to eat what ever it is contained within. And even worse the closest source of magic power is the local super hero group's mage! Can Mystic's hunger be satiated? Will the PCs beable to save both him and their magic using college?

Revenge of Danny Deevers

Most people have never heard of Danny Deevers, but back in the Forties, he was known as Demolition Dan. He had no actual powers, but used various explosives and a small army of thugs to extort money from Campaign City. A band of heroes (either powered or not, depending on the campaign history) tracked down and captured Deevers. Due to the people who'd been murdered by his infernal devices, Deevers was sentenced to a hundred years in prison, seventy with good behavior. He was paroled last year, and promptly vanished.

Now, one of the player characters (one without healing powers or mind reading) is summoned to the local hospital, where Deevers lies dying. It turns out that Deevers never reformed, and has used his last year to plant bombs all over the country (or world, if the PCs are particularly powerful) that are rigged to go off sometime after his death. He hands the visitor a piece of paper with rather obscure clues to the location of these bombs, and passes away, a cruel smile upon his lips.

Possible Complications:

1) There are as many bombs as there are player characters; each requiring a special power or skill one of the PCs has to disarm, and they must be disarmed simultaneously, or the remaining ones explode. (In the spirit of fair play, Danny Deevers has indicated which hero is for which bomb.)

2) One bomb is in a location forbidden to "outsiders", or where the local authorities hate the player character(s) and won't believe them about the bomb.

3) When the player character arrives at one site, the bomb is missing. It's been stolen by a local crimelord who is using it to extort money from the city. (The crimelord is probably unaware of the echo effect.)

4) The only clue to one bomb's location is a name. To be precise, the name of one of the people who put Deever away in the first place. If there's an appropriate PC or NPC in the campaign, use them.

5) One of the bombs is protected by a monster (or monsters) appropriate to the campaign.

Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag

Queen of the Reich There’s always someone trying to clone Hitler. Alas, not everyone has Teleosis’ expertise. A group of aging Nazi scientists attempted years ago to bring their Leader back to life. As all life essentially starts female, an odd regression in the experiment’s stability caused the clone to be born female! Aghast, but figuring they could at least study her and see if their conditioning techniques would work, the scientists did their best to raise Adele Hitler. While they attempted to educate her in a manner that would do an SS trooper proud, their disdain for her gender never could be completely hidden. Augmented by further chemical treatments, and driven by her own desire to prove herself to her ‘fathers’, Adele actually surpasses her gene donor in all ways physical and mental. Her science skills now rival her tutors. Now, all of them save one have passed away, and Adele is ready to make her mark on the world.

Just not the way her fathers wanted. She has come to her own conclusions on what the “Master Race†is, and determined it is womankind. After all, as she sees it, the time when upper body strength made on the ‘stronger sex’ is long gone with the cavemen. Maleness was a necessary flaw, but no more. Thanks to improved cloning techniques, Adele has determined men are indeed obsolete. Filled with hubris, she and some female mercenaries seize a local TV station and force an ‘interview’ where she says the days of male rule are over in three days.

Meanwhile, all over Campaign City, folks are noticing some changes…

(Pick one or both)

1. Women are growing increasingly hostile to the men in their lives, increasingly sympathetic to Adele and her opinions. Even the most loving husbands are being rebuffed and increasingly treated as the enemy. The Queen of the new Reich knows that women have a slightly different hearing range than men, and subliminals are being pumped through the city.

2. Men begin passing out, in small amounts at first, then greater as they develop fevers, and begin to transform painfully into women. It is as if they are genetically regressing. While some might find this comical, it is proving to be quite a shock to the system and scientists predict that only 30% of the soon to be “Ex Men†will survive the experience.

The PCs have to do some detective work to figure out if this is being spread through the Air, Water, or what? Ironically enough, it is entirely possible it is being spread via chemicals or a virus lacing male hygiene products.

Either way, the PCs may find themselves being influenced by this plan, and time is of the essence. Can they stop a literal “femi-Nazi†before she achieves her dream of a Master… make that Mistress Race?

"Un-Reality TV"

The local TV station approaches the heros about making a reality show about the heros. As expected action times get highly exaggerated and non-action times are left out. The actual program eventually gets shelved and forgotten. Then years later a mystical wanne-be villain (hero?) discovers this program and uses it to take out the heros.

The violence amoung local gangs have started to increase, but surprisingly instead of being guns, improvised weapons or knives, the weapons of choice are high quality mystical weapons from the Helenic Greek period. Tracking down the source of the weapons leads you the heros to Hephaestus, the last of the Ancient Greek Gods. All the others have faded away into non-existance, and he plans on going out with bang and not a wimper.
