Adventure Seeds--Title Tag

Recommended Posts

Since we haven't done this in a while:

Three possible titles for an adventure are printed. Pick one of the titles to come up with an adventure seed (a paragraph or two will do, though a page is also good) that sort of matches. Then make up three possible titles for the next poster to work with.

Our starter choices are:

"The City of Broken Air"

"The Man Who Praises Poison"

"Perfect in Pink" (Bonus points if the adventure seed has no references to pre-pubescent or teenage girls.)

Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag

Perfect in pink - Photon has decided to go costume shopping. She's tired of the pink uniform and wants something a little more exotic. She goes to all the normal underworld tailors but finds nothing that she likes. Then she sees a pic of [fill in the blank hero] and decides she wants a costume just like his/hers. Now she needs to find out who made it for the hero. Time to plan a capture, and possibly a ransom.

Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag

"The City of Broken Air" - While out patroling, the team is confrunted with someone who possesses abilities that exceed normal people but are not at the same level as the heros. This person tells them that (s)he is a representative of a society that exists on the Moon. They have existed there in peace for several centuries Earth-time. Almost a week ago though they came under strife and need the heros to help out. If they agree then they will discover that there is a totally alien race that is trying to get through the defenses that these others are using to protect Earth until humans are ready to join them in space. This will also explain why there are so few actual attacks that penetrate to Earth. In the past these defenses were strong enough to stop invaders, but now the invaders are able to penetrate the defenses and they need the heros to stop the invaders, or else Earth might actually see a true alien invasion. :weep: It will be up to the GM to determine why they are defending Earth without the knowledge of mainstream humanity.

"City From Tomorrow"

The people of Campaign City are shocked, or at least mildly surprised, when an upside down ruined city appears in the sky above them. Once the player characters find a way to get to the ruined city and explore it (gravity does not flip; the city is actually upside down), they find indications that this place is actually Campaign City from one day in the future. There are no living beings in the city, not even bacteria that the characters didn't bring themselves.

What happened to Campaign City? Where are all the people? Is this even real, or is someone perpetrating a horrific prank? And if it's real, how can the player characters stop it from happening?

The campaign city is hosting a major tournament for Magic the Gathering . There are lots of children and teens present when problems are experienced with the games. At first these are written off as just kids things but then injuries develop and frightened children say thay were bitten. By the cards. The team arrested Black Harlequin or the Harlequin is confirmed as being in custody so who has hijacked the cards and why ?

'The Man Who Praises Poison"

Dr. Jonathan North’s dimensional gateway experiment worked perfectly, for a given value of perfect. It opened a gateway, just as he expected. He did not expect there would be Something on the other side, waiting to come through. Now this Thing sits in his lab, giving off weird radiation that is slowly turning all of the food, water, and even air for miles around more and more poisonous. North, his body warped by direct exposure, is immune, and in fact superpowered. His mind shattered, he is now roaming the city, praising his new god for coming to destroy the unworthy and consuming poisoned food to show his status as the Chosen One. He will react violently to anyone attempting to interfere. And, of course, the gate is still open…

"Price of No Power:" A particular NPC hero that the characters are acquanted with has always wished that his life was normal, and that he didn't have his powers. He is contacted by [Name of Evil Genius], who tells the hero that the powers can be taken away, and the hero can lead a normal life. The NPC hero agrees, but asks the PC's to come with him in case [the Evil Genius] doublcrosses him. When the heroes arrive, they will be paranoid as can be. [The Evil Genius] performs the operation, using lots of weird devices, which proves to be a complete success. The players will try to find out what the catch is, and there are several options: {Evil Genius] is on the up-and-up, and just wants to remove a super thron in his side, [Evil Genius] has sevretly stored the power to give to a henchman, or the power is given to the NPC hero's DNPC, who either goes on a rampage, or who enjoys being a hero the way the original NPC hero didn't.

A powerful lich lord is trimming the fat on his army. Cutting away useless zombies and lower powered undead. Now Campaign City is over run by zombies trying to make as normal citizens. They have no master now but still strive to exist. Some good some bad. Can the citizens live in harmony with the dead? Doubt it but lets find out.

"Thirteen Hours Til Midnight"

Around dinner time, the heroes get a call from a scientist at a local lab who has a problem. Though it was difficult to measure, it seems as if the subjective time sense of humanity is speeding up, making it seem as if the clocks are running slower...and it's not just local; by conferring with colleagues around the globe, he's confirmed this is happening world-wide. Worse, the difference in time and perception is growing, and at an exponential rate. Though barely noticable now, in thirteen hours of percieved time the rate will effectively become infinite...meaning that humanity will be stuck "between ticks of the clock" for the rest of eternity. It's an odd coincidence, but the point at which the rate becomes infinite will occur exactly at midnight in Campaign City.

Or maybe it's no coincidence at all...and someone or some thing wants Campaign City to become The City on the Edge of Midnight...forever!

"What are you looking at?"

Chaos erupts in the stands of the Campaign City Warriors, the local professional sports franchise. What apparently started as a bout of fistacuffs between two drunken fans quickly spilled over into other sections, and even onto the field of play. To further complicate matters, local law enforcement is unable to reach the stadium as all traffic around the stadium complex is in gridlock, with collisions and reports of road rage 700% above normal for an average weekend afternoon.

Throughout the next thirty minutes, more and more reports of domestic disturbance in the areas surrounding the stadium continue to pour in, and the pattern continues to spread. What is causing this outbreak of violent behavior? Who would even dream to do such a thing? The pattern is clear, but how is it spreading so quickly? Can the heroes find and neutralize the problem before the cause reaches the Campaign City Nuclear Power Plant, just 2 miles away from the arena?

Black Harlequin (or the toy-themed madman of your choice) has decided to give the people worried about violence in video games something to really worry about. Somewhere in Campaign City there is a Y-Box secretly rigged with a remote control. Every time it’s used to play a certain popular-but-controversial game, it sends a signal which activates robots scattered throughout the city, who proceed to act out the game in the real world. And if the heroes just smash the robots, well, he’s built a couple dozen more. What’s a video game without extra lives, after all? Besides, what fun would the final confrontation be without an army of crime-bots to fight?

Alien Invasion : The campaign's resident villainous mad scientist has invented a device that allows (in the sense of forces) one to enter the "world" of a film for the duration of its showing, and interact with it. Once inside, the only way to escape is to survive to the end of the movie. And guess which film is queued up when the heroes arrive? (If the player characters are really tough, use "Aliens" instead.)

"Make Me an Offer" The heroes find out someone has been reselling high-tech gear that ARGENT doesn't use anymore, having deemed the technology "obsolete." Through contacts on the street, the heroes find out about an upcoming auction of high-tech weapons that will tip the balance of power in the city heavily against the police and other law enforcement agencies. The heroes have to infiltrate the auction and shut it down. The complications come in when they realize that the weapons they are looking to keep off the street can be turned against them.

"Penny for your Thoughts" - An upstart company arrives in the Campaign City, claiming to be the future of mind-controlled machinery. Offering people a small fee for a weekend of time to test a new product, MentalTech then hooks up their volunteers up to their test machinery which monitors their brain waves while they drive remote control cars around a course. After a few weeks of testing, MentalTech closes it's doors due to lack of funding. A few months later, many people in Campaign City begin acting bizarrely, you know... forgetting people they knew, walking around aimlessly, eating the flesh of others...

One day someone come into Campaign City and claims to be able to get rid of something that is a real nuisance to the townsfolk. The city leaders try to find the catch but none is to be found. (The catch is for the GM to decide on.) Will the heros be able to determine what is going on? If they cannot determine what the catch is, then after everything is over then the "Pied Piper" will reveal what is truely going on.

50,000 Elvis Fans Can't be Wrong...can they

Elvis sightings are on the rise; most put it off as just more of the same nonsense. However, in an unprecedented press conference, an older but surprisingly spry Elvis conforms the rumors.

It seems that Elvis never left the building at all, but rather as many suspected he had faked his own death. It seems that Elvis had volunteered to travel to Tibet in order to study an alien martial art known only to a reclusive enclave of psionic monks. For eight years, Elvis trained with the monks, and then for the last twenty he has been working under deep-cover, for a super-secret government organization. Known only as the Hound Dog he has been righting wrongs and using his “Fu†to bring the hammer down on villainy across the globe. But now he is retiring from the super-agent biz and making a farewell tour before throwing his hat into the political arena. The weird thing is that his story seems to check out; can it be the Elvis kooks were right after all?

But all is not well in Graceland strange esoteric signs have been seen above the mansion and both workers and visitors there have reported hearing the mournful spectral keening of a guitar, the source of which cannot be located. And some have even claimed to see a ghostly apparition, looking like the King himself, those that have seen the shade claim that he seemed to trying to desperately communicate with them. But if Elvis isn’t dead how can his ghost be haunting Graceland? Things get stranger still when a string of disappearances seems to be following the King’s tour. And then the King announces his bid for the Presidency.

The skies of Campaign City darken as dark ominous clouds form overhead. After a night of intense storms, the dawn brings a few new developments - a thin grey mist fills the city, any EGO-based powers are half as effective, and numerous four-story high black obelisks have been erected all over the city. Why are they there? Why are only mental powers effected? And, what connection does all this have with the storms?

Werewolves of New London

A sleepy Wisconsin town not too far from Green Bay is shocked when a number of first deer then cattle disappear, traces of blood and wolf tracks the only clues. A famous monster hunter shows up blathering about werewolves, which gets the case national media coverage (but still not as much as Sapphire's latest wedding being on hold again.)

Then the hunter disappears, again with only blood and tracks visible. Interestingly, none of the hunter's weapons seem to have been fired, despite the obvious struggle. Time to call in the player characters!

Is it a tourism stunt gone horribly wrong? One or more actual werewolves? Semi-intelligent mutant wolves, or some other force that's faking the wolf prints.

Of course the heroes are cast as the New Cast and must contend with the demented mind of Foxbat.

15 Minutes...Or It's Free!

Joey Camacho seems like your average guy, just an everyday Joe trying to make an honest living. But appearances can be deceiving. Joey has a secret, something that makes him beyond ordinary. Joey is a psychic, a man gifted with precognitive abilities. Well, sort of, it seems Joey precognitive abilities are very limited, he can only predict who is going to call him on the phone and what they are going to tell him and only some twenty-minutes or so before it happens.

For several years Joey’s tried to come up with a way to make a living off his gift, but Joey’s a scrupulously honest guy, so he didn’t want to do anything illegal or even unethical, he was also hampered the fact that while he’s basically a decent guy, he isn’t a very imaginative one.

This all changed one day when his cousin Louie called him on the phone, of course, Joey knew what the call was going to be about, and he was ready to take him up on the offer. You see, for years Louie tryied to get is cousin to help makes bets on the track but Joey would never go for it, but now Louie had come up with a way to make some money off Joey ability in way that he didn’t think Joey would find objectionable. Louie had a line on buying pizza parlor from some guy who was retiring, with his cousins abilities they could easily guarantee a pizza delivered in fifteen minutes, beating all the other places 30 minute guarantee.

For a while, things went smoothly, the pizza parlor was successful and even though Joey had to work long hours, he didn’t mind it, because he liked what he was doing. But as fate would have it, crime boss Vincent Gambini owned the other pizza parlor in the neighborhood. Now Vincent didn’t really care if business was down at his pizza parlor, to him it was just one of several place to launder his ill-gotten gains. However, he was curious how Joey and Louie were managing to deliver pizzas consistently in fifteen minutes or less. So he sent one of his boys to work at the place and before long, he learned Louie’s secret.

Vincent can think of a lot of better things to do with Louie’s abilities than schlepping pizzas around the neighborhood. So he’s pressed Louie into his service, forcing him to help with gambling, the stock market, and even reports on hit that have gone wrong. The usually honest Joey is being torn apart by all this graft, but there’s not much he can do, Vincent has one of his goons with at all times and to make matters worse he kidnapped his dear mother and is keeping her in a undisclosed location. And even if he could somehow notify the police, he knows that Vincent has several cops on his payroll.

But Louie has a plan; he’s been passing out coupons offering great deals on pizza around the neighborhood making sure some get delivered to the local heroes’ headquarters. When they call for some pizzas, he’s going to hide a message in the pie explaining their predicament.

But the heroes will have to be careful, storming the pizza parlor will just get Louie’s mother killed. Also, Vincent Gambini didn’t rise to be a crime boss by being a fool, he usually tries to steer clear of run ins with super-types but he’s has contingencies for when it happens, including a few low-rent supervillains in his employ. But his ace in the hole are two experimental guns, one which slow people down for a short period and one that lowers their defenses, making the heroes much more vulnerable to his boys’ guns.

The PCs are called to look into the disappearance of a geologist acquaintance who was investigating the supposed link between the appearance of floating balls of light called “earth lights†and earthquakes. Unfortunately, in this case the lights are a side effect of a villain’s Geo-Resonator. It seems that after the villain discovered his resonator has an unusually strong effect on silver, he bought a played-out silver mine that actually still has large deposits impossible to reach by conventional means. He’s using the resonator to both extract that silver and melt it down for casting into bars. Of course, while it’s doing that it also causes random localized earthquakes and undermines the geological integrity of the entire region, but the money for his next master plan has to come from somewhere, right?

I see one of two covers here: 1.) The villain preparing to drop captured heroes into a vat of molten silver, or 2.) The villain’s brick henchman overturning the vat, sending a wave of molten silver toward the onrushing heroes as the villain laughs from the sidelines. "Now, heroes, meet your DOOM!"

"Fist full of Fear"

Wizzing through space, along the same planetary orbit as the Earth, but a month behind, is a huge astroid known as Astroid-X. On Astroid-X is a super-advanced observation platform, built by aliens thousands of years ago, used to study life on Earth.

The alien species that accupies Astriod-X is an ultra-conservative logic-based egg-head type, that pretty much lacks any kind of human emotion... known as the Covenant. It is their job to make sure humanity gets a fair chance to make it in the Universe, without having to worry about being primaturelly destroyed by chaotic random astrological disasters: like the one that killed the dinosaurs, or the one that fractured Earth Mk. I, and created the moon.

Unfortunately, the Covenant has broken into two separate factions: The first faction maintains it's original directive... to protect humanity from afar. The second faction has taken a liking to humanity's many colorful cultures, and wants to participate directly in its developement.

Anyhow... open war has broken out on Astroid-X. The Covenant on both sides cannot come to any kind of agreement, and have arived at the conclusion that the other side must be wiped out in order to continue their goals. The power levels involved are pretty high, and the Player Characters become aware of the fire-works display, via some kind of space monitering computer they own. Soon after, they become aware that an unusual, and large, object is heading straight for Earth... a wickedly nasty singularity-string, hundreds of miles long, and only a week away from totally destroying the planet.

The Players need to get the Covenant to quit fighting long enough to save Earth from the singularity-string. After that, it would probably be a good idea to do something about the schism dividing the aliens, or they will eventually wipe each other out... and then man-kind will be defenseless against future dangers.

How the Players get to Astroid-X is up to them, I suppose. If they can't do it on their own, or they don't think to check the disturbances on the newly discovered celestial object... you could have one of the Covenant factions beam them aboard, and ask for help... though this IS kind of heavy-handed.

I see the Covenant as frustratingly uncompromising. I also imagine the Heroes being manuevered into performing jobs for both sides, before picking a side themselves, and fighting for it. Other solutions are of course possible... :P

"He ain't Mechanon, He's my Brother."

The danger alarm awakens the PC's in the middle of the night following a string of bizarre robberies. Several state-of-the-art components have been stolen from several local research facilities including a prototype Cold Fusion powercell, a next generation mother board with a processor capable of reaching speeds in excess of 20.0 Ghz, and perhaps most disturbingly, a black-box government funded device used to track, measure, and analyze temporal waves. (Suit the first 2 to the technology level of your setting. If that's just ridiculuosly far beyond the tech level of your campaign, don't use cold fusion, just some sort of power source that's more effective/ effecient than any currently existing standard technology, and trim the speed back on the processor.)

Reviewing surveillance cameras doesn't provide any answers, as it seems they all shut down right before the items were stolen at each location. In fact, after further review, every electronic/technological device in the entire building shut down at each site just before the items were discovered missing. (This may give the PC's a bit of a clue as to who they're dealing with. If they deduce that it is Mechanon, and know the location of his local base of operations, great. If not, continue.)

The heroes need to come up with some way of tracking the stolen equipment, either by following a hard to find trail of clues to be determined by the GM, or by scanning the city for unusual power spikes if they have the capability. Regardless of how they find it, once they locate where the items were taken, they discover (or confirm) that Mechanon was behind the whole thing, and he plans on using the components to travel back in time to the exact point where the first living micro-organism develped... and destroy it.

However, Mechanon had not yet adjusted all the settings on the temporal analyzer, and during the ensuing fight, the device is accidentally triggered, sending the heroes and Mechanon back in time...

...to 1976.

How will the heroes make it back to their correct time? Will they team up with heroes from this era such as Lyric, the folk-singer hero, or Disco-Doll and her sidekick Boogie Boy? Will they be able to find Mechanon and stop him before he finds a way to recharge his device and complete his plan?
