Re: The New Champions (Marvel)

If I might note, I think that Thundra's defenses might be a bit much. With 25 PD/25 ED, 40 Con, and 50% Dmg Reductions she is almost impossible to stun depending on the power level of your campaign. As some others noted, I would suggest a 60 str though again it depends on the power level you use. The Thing would be a max of 70 str in my campaign (with Thor being the highest at 80).

I hope you don't mind the suggestions. Good luck!

Hm... some thoughts:

The Native American hero Red Fox as a mystic character (he has some enhanced physical stats now as well after a transformation) and Firebird who has been an Avenger. The latter is a EBer (Fire-based) who attributed her powers to God. The pair have worked together as a loose team in the Southwest and would make for some interesting discussions for religion and mysticism since Red Fox has spoken with native American gods while FB is a devout Catholic.

I'm not sure if I'd label Firebird as a second stringer though since she was an Avenger although then again neither is Thundra. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you want something like the Giffen League with the pros like Batman and Martian Manhunter rolling their eyes at the antics of Guy Gardner, Booster Gold, and Blue Beetle I'm not sure who to recommend. Speedball comes to mind but then again he's on the New Warriors right now. Impossible Man could show up every now and then as a member who doesn't seem to realize that no one else wants him around.

Re: The New Champions (Marvel)

yeah, I've got most of my roster and it's pretty big 8 members. I've got a lot of write ups that are started and what I really want is to find some good art for them. I'll post the skeletons as I get them near ready and then see if people can help me out like they did with Giant Man.

Re: The New Champions (Marvel)

Okay right now I think I have my team. There's a lot of them. 7 All the time members and 4 or 5 "reserves" who all work for their patron, but have other interests besides heroing and work when needed. The "Core Team" is:

Thundra

Giant Man II

Photon (though she may even be calling herself something else now...like Faser or something even less dignified)

Mockingbird II - Original chracter built off of some cool Storn Cook Art...

Blue Shield

Free Spirit - created in the pages of Captain America and filling my "Dedicated Martial Artist" role - I chose her because she's been really forgotton, and I can adjust her at whim without feeling guilty.

Jackrabbit - Semi-Original Character based on a Spiderman Issue I once read.

The As Needed:

Majik II (Amanda Sefton)

Doc Samson

Stingray

Peregrine

Arsenal (Fabian Stankowicz)

In her eyes, an intelligent, highly skilled woman who made herself an Avenger was a worthy role-model. She grew up planning to create her own costumed identity to emulate her heroine. When Mockingbird died in action, Caprice was taken aback. Suddenly, she felt vulernable, she knew that heroes sometimes payed the ultimate price, but losing her idol was so demoralizing that she abruptly changed her plans and began thinking of a safer career choice.

Bright and armed with an engineering degree from Empire State University, Caprice joined the Brand Corporation as a research assistant into Brand's forensics department, developing newer and more accurate methods and technologies to aid law enforcement agencies in the determination and capture of criminals. It was rewarding work, but there were nagging longings in the back of her mind to put her fears aside and become the heroine she'd always wanted to be.

Perhaps, if her superior hadn't decided to become a "supervillain", she'd never have acted on her heroic impulses. But he did, utilizing as much of his research as possible at the circumvention of forensic detection, Dr. Robert Clay became the Nightwraith; a crime scene specialist. He basically set himself up as a criminal security specialist and crime scene cleaner. After their FBI liason mentioned his department's frustration with a series of unsolvable crimes, Caprice began to suspect someone in her department was helping the criminals to defeat their own work and techniques. She went to her superior only to be told she was "over reacting" and "hurting morale".

That night, on her way home, three men attempted to accost her. Fortunately, the hero Spiderman was in the area and she was rescued. She told Spiderman her fears and he suggested she go to the Police.

The next day, several of Caprice's projects were found missing, an inquiry, including video surveillance showed her stealing it! She protested vehematly but was fired from Brand and told never to appear there again or face trespassing charges. Caprice left a defeated woman.

Or at least that's how she appeared to the Nightwraith. In truth she'd determined that the three muggers had been sent in retaliation for her suspicions. She contacted the FBI liason, Lillia Chen, and gave the agent her suspicions. She promised proof soon. Then went to work.

Adopting her costume she'd designed in her college days, Caprice began taking matters into her own hands. Though she'd intended to call her self Bluejay, Caprice decided to adopt her heroine's title and hit the streets as the new Mockingbird!

Her investigative skills, aided by her forensic technology, combat gadgets, intelligence and training allowed her to track down and expose the Nightwraith. She also cleared Caprice Janes name, took a buy out of her contract from Brand in lieu of suing for wrongful termination, and moved west to work for Malcolm Harper. Shortly after she started their she recieved an email requesting Mockingbird to attend a meeting. Surprised, but curious, she went.

Now she's a Champion.

Powers/Tactics: Campaign Use: The art, is of course Storn Cook. One of his commissions he's shared with us.

She wants humanity to grow beyond its current sociological standards and seek a higher cultural plane. Not that she's a new age lecturer or a politically correct busy body; she just envisions a world where we've managed to overcome racial, economic, and social tensions.

She also knows that as a "Normal" human adventuring with superpowered individuals she has a responsibility to "represent" mankind. She takes it as a serious responsibilty.

Quote:"I won't fail you."Background: Real name: Cathy Webster

AKA: Freebie.

Team affiliation: A shy honors college student whose overall GPA was being brought down by her lackluster performance in physical education, Cathy volunteered to participate in what she thought was a psychology experiment using subliminal tapes. In truth, the tapes were programming her mind to hate all men, while her body was being subjected to a ray that enhanced her physical performance to that of peak human efficiency. Breaking her brainwashing the first time she hit someone too hard, Cathy went hunting for the woman in charge of the experiment, Superia. Her search led her to cross paths with the Zemos, Diamondback, and her idol, Captain America. Taken on by him as a training project, she and Jack Flag inherited his network of computer operatives when the break-down of the super-soldier serum in Cap's blood forced him to cut back on his non-super-human activities.

When the Avengers were being destroyed from within, Cathy left to experience the world. For the better part of three years she found herself travelling in the company of a skilled kung fu fighter named Abe Brown. Brown, in the 1970's was one of the Sons of the Tiger. He'd worked with various costumed crimefighters of the day and had more than one adventure with his martial arts buddies. Now he travelled the world, learning, teaching, lecturing. Free Spirit, as Cathy Webster, followed along writing her experiences and some of his biography. The older martial artist taught her Kung Fu basics to go with her instinctive combat abilities and training at the hands of Captain America. She and Abe parted ways in Hong Kong where she met an older woman who spent the next 18 months instructing her in advanced Kung Fu techniques.

More confident in her abilities and more than a little homesick, Cathy came back to the states. She was unable to contact Captain America as the Avengers debacle damage control was taking his time. She travelled to Seattle to visit Brown who'd returned from his own journey and he introduced her to Malcolm Harper, who later inducted Free Spirit into the New Champions.

Powers/Tactics: Powers: Although not exactly super-powered, Cathy has been augmented to effortlessly perform at peak proficiency during combat. That includes an instinctive knowledge of advanced acrobatics and basic fighting techniques, the latter of which was improved upon by a massive training session with Captain America, and several follow-up sessions with her fellow Cap wannabe, Jack Flag.Campaign Use: A fledgling Captain America. Free Spirit, now that she's gained confidence and found herself, is showing leadership tendancies. She's idealistic and her confidence and drive are infectious. She gladly works with other "Code vs Killing" style heroes, but will be leery if not confrontational to the more reckless or violent vigilantes.

Re: The New Champions (Marvel)

By the by my fellow Hero Gamers. Someone wanna help me out here? I am running into the "I can't believe she costs this many points..."

Photon is a beast.

I don't mind making her 2000 pts if I have to, but anyone want to take a stab at her powerset?

is it a)

Desolidification - energy form -

plus

Lots of energy tricks usable while desolid...

or

High levels of Damage Reduction

Lots of energy tricks

a combination?

Desolidification and a VPP 75 active points Usable while desolid?

Perhaps a better question. Has she ever done anything besides Fly, Shoot, Walk through walls?

I've seen her pass herself of as a television signal, but I can't remember anything else. She's not a solid light, Green Lantern Style Energy projector is she?

Re: The New Champions (Marvel)

I believe that her main power was shapeshift any energy form with special effect of that energy like x-rays penetrating solids unless she has been powered down in the last few years.

So maybe desolid with variable effects.

I could be mistaken.
