CHAMPIONS OF VANCOUVER - Episode 7: "VIPER Paradox"

Cast of Characters:

Pyre Archer - Pyrokinetic Winged Archer.

Windsurfer - Mutant Wind Manipulator.

Lucky - Martial Arts with beating sticks, and a lot of Luck.

Krom - Mutant Metal Brick

Location:

Andromeda's Bar & Brewery

Previously on Champions of Vancouver: ...

VIPER's factional infighting has broken out into all out war between the Sinistter Samurai and Redstone.

The Bar Neutral Ground has cloed its doors.

Lucky and Pyre Archer battled VIPER on the UBC campus grounds. They discovered their Super HQ had disappeared, reappeared elsewhere, and then disappeared again.

They visited Drew Halister Lucky's Inventor/Gadgeteer who lives and works from his parents basement. He believes that the Heroes are from another timeline. That they are trapped within a Predestination Paradox. Created by the Flicker/Entropy Temporal War over the Orichulum Crown.

Here the President of the United States is Robert Kaufman, former Golden Avenger.

They follow up a lead from Staff Sergeant Chin. Apparently this timeline's Champions of Vancouver captured all the Crowns of Krim. Entropy is be held in a Maximum Security Mental Asylum. They use their influence to meet with him.

Entropy claims responsibility for bring them to this timeline. In exchange for freeing him he would be willing to help them return to their own timeline. They walk ouside to discuss it and decide to leave without giving him an answer.

They try to locate Captain Chronos and discoverr he has been sighted where they have been days earlier.

Pyre Archer learns that he now lives with his parents.

Lucky has a different appartment in the south side.

Krom is a cypher, he actually exists in this timeline, but never became a Superhero.

Windrider's life seems unchanged.

The next afternoon their Emergency Pagers sound off. VIPER has occupied Andromeda's Bar & Brewery downtown and is attacking Ogre and Powerhause.

The Heroes arrive to see Ogre come flying out of the front door like and human missile.

... "I'm all out of bubblegum" - Windrider

The Heroes charge in and a grand battle insues. Prye Archer wreaks firey vengence upon them, Windrider blows them away. Lucky lays about with his beatin sticks and Krom throws everything at them (Literally).

VIPER's tactics and teamwork surprise our Heroes and it isn't long before Prye Archer's fury is burned out and he falls unconcious. Windrider is blasted back through a wall and into the brewers vats. Lucky and Krom fight on.

Krom catches a full barrage of fire from VIPER's Superhuman Combat Specialist's "Thunderer". Knocking him out for the count. Lucky preforms a strategic retreat and lays down a flash bangs and smoke screens.

Prye Archer rejoins the fight and Windrider seeks a way to encircle the Agents from behind.

The VIPER Agents retreat, laying down suppression fire and withdraw behind the smoke screen. Lucky leaves cover and gets hit and knocked back. Pyre Archer shrugs it off and manuvers for a better position, but sees no one.

VIPER had blasted a hole in the wall behind them and retreated under smoke and covering fire. Through the back of the Starbucks and outside into a waiting escape vehicle.

Windrider chases after them, but cannot find the vehicle they used to escape. As the smoke clears and they gather their wits they hear a mocking applause from the stage. A figure dressed in costume with a Rooks Symbol on his chest smiles and continues to clap his hands.

... "Well done Gentlemen, it seems your reputations have not been exaggerated at all. VIPER has had quite enough of your interfearence and I have been sent to settle your accounts"

He cracks his knuckle and stands.

... "Shall we begin"

Again with a taunting grin

Loose Threads:

The Heroes discover they have been leaping through various timelines as a result of Flicker's and Entropy's Temporal struggle.

The Good:

Good fight, interesting quotes, and Lucky stays concious through a combat.

The Bad:

16 VIPER Agents almost took down the 4 Champions of Vancouver.

The Ugly:

Dice luck was with the NPCs

To be fair, those last two were kind of related. Plus, we got to learn first hand just how much invisible martial artists with Missile Reflection can suck when used against us.

Need to learn some anti-invisibility tactics. Maybe get a heat-based (Non-sight group) detect. Even without targetting, I'd have something approaching a prayer.

We did try a few tricks, but no luck, sad to say.

Or, we could get something really powerfull with a huge Area Affect. Invisible or not, Megascale will level the playing field. Our new battlecry could be "Dodge blast radius, you villanous scum!"

Umm...Isn't that the sort of thing we were trying to prevent Krom from doing? Or are we going to a 'Sic 'em, brick!' combat philosophy? :)

'Champions of Vancouver: Fighting evil, one demolished building at a time. Also do parties and bar mitzvahs.'

Re: [Campaign] Champions of Vancouver

So, last Thursday went off OK, with a special guest appearance by The White Monk! Gentlemen, we've just hit holo-covered.

So, the group has a collective hit on it (Curse you, GMO Hunted!) We all nearly got gassed, and Krom's lack of a Code Vs Killing is gonna come back to bite us, I swear...

Oh, and sticking your head up near an AP turret? Not a good idea. OW!

Re: [Campaign] Champions of Vancouver

Afterward:

Well folks its been a wild and crazy ride. The Campaign had its ups and down (Mostly ups, unfortunately for Blitz's fear of heights ;) ). I enjoyed meeting everyone and getting together to game. Its now time to reveal the GM's Secrets.

The GM's Secrets

01. VIPER was the main focus of the Campaign, but rarely do GM's plans survive contact with the PCs ;). I managed to drag the players back to it near the end and wish we had had the time to get into it. Basically the Civil War between Redstone and The Sinister Samurai was over territory and resources in Vancouver.

02. CREO Industries was bought out by Duchess Industries. Founder & CEO Andrea Von Droit is an Immortal who reinvents herself as daughter, cousin, etc... of the Founder. She is also one of the founders of modern day VIPER. She used surrogates to get what she wants, but the Heroes meddling forced her to deal with the situation herself.

03. Entropy was the Hunted of Flicker powers over who manipulates the space-time allowed him to manipulate time, time travel, and teleport. He became a favourite adversary of the PCs and after acquiring the Orichalum Crown of Krimm became my Master Villain. Their battles through various time streams finally lead them back to their own, but not without a few changes. He also made an excellent tool to bring in new Characters.

04. VOICE of Doom was introduced during the resurgent interest on these forums about the Adventure/Organization. They also launched the campaign. Although the PCs did not pursue the connection between James Kuok and VOICE they did seem to enjoy being thrown into situations involving them.

05. The Steel Legion (Ankylosaur, Armadillo, Laser, & Scorpio) never reassembled following the drubbing the Heroes gave them, much to my disappointment.

06. Utility wants his Variable Blaster Back Blitz.

07. Mechanon was the Deus Ex Machina for combat sessions, but there was a growing fear among the PCs and rightly so that this Genocidal Robot would become more powerful than they could ever imagine.

08. DEMON never really flew not matter how often I threw them at the PCs, but they did have some fun.

09. I.H.A.'s Project Genocide Minute Man Robots caused havoc and fiercely fought battle for survival. Strangely the Mutants in the group never tried to Hunt them down. Its only fair. I did not get a chance to introduce the Human Sized and Appearing Upgrades. Too bad ;)

10. The Crowns of Krimm, defeats, depowered and in Dark Seraph's position dead. I loved sending these guys in and loved the look on the PCs faces. Too bad they never learned what they were planning or why. Takofane's the Undying was manipulating them to do his bidding to bring about the death of all living things on earth. Bringing Unlife to all.

11. Black Paladin and Molly de Morphant. Star crossed lovers separated by death and time, but not forever. The PCs failure to save her prevented the Witch's return.

12. ARGENT was moving in on VIPERs territory, but then decided against it after the PCs brought down their operations.

13. Neutral Ground Superhuman Bar & Grill. The PC never tried to discover who owned the place or anything. Did allow for some amusing locations. S&M Bar as cover above, the Porno Video Store, and a few more never explored.

14. More later

It was fun, but now I gotta run.
