Background/History: From Marvel Directory.Com

T'Challa is the son of T'Chaka, late king of the African nation Wakanda. When lawless ivory hunter Ulysses Klaw murdered T'Chaka in an attempt to possess the country's rare Vibranium deposit, a grief-stricken T'Challa swore vengeance and succeeded in thwarting the butcher's raid. In the process, the young prince destroyed Klaw's hand.

Educated at the finest schools in Europe and America, T'Challa returned to his homeland bearing a degree in physics and ready to assume the mantle of leadership. To do so required he pass two tests: defeat six of Wakanda's greatest warriors in unarmed combat, and obtain the secret heart-shaped herb that grants the country's chieftains their powers. Successfully carrying out the dual challenge, T'Challa donned the ceremonial garb of the Black Panther, totem of the Wakandan people.

Under T'Challa, Wakanda has become one of the wealthiest and most technologically advanced nations on the planet. After meeting Captain America, the Panther was offered membership in the Avengers. Taking a leave of absence from his royal duties, he served among Earth's Mightiest Heroes for a lengthy interval, acquainting himself with American methods of crimefighting. During his time with the Avengers, he met the love of his life: social worker Monica Lynne. Inevitably, T'Challa returned to Wakanda, only to find the country in turmoil due to his prolonged absence. The Panther subdued an uprising led by Killmonger, a revolutionary intent on assuming the throne. After regaining his people's respect, the Panther worked to bring his country out of isolation from the rest of the world.

Current Status:

King, Check, Married to Storm of the X-Men, Check, Love of his life? Well I dunno, I don't see what has happened to her.

Personality/Motivation: Nobilesse Oblige, Idealism, Altruism, Pride, and a healthy dose of Quiet Confidence. T'Challa is a real life Prince Charming. Though he has his foibles and passions like anyone else, and though he might be considered something of an Ivory Tower Leftist Intellectual; he is the responsible and noble scion of a responsible and noble King. The incident that lead to T'Challa becoming King of his homeland was tragic, but he's come through.

Quote:

Powers/Tactics: Taught a myriad of european, asian, and african fighting styles, and combining this with his keen intellect and enhanced physique, The Black Panther is one of the Marvel Universe's premier hand to hand fighters. I'd put him in the Captain America & Shang Ch'i range. To top that off he has a number of technological toys that make use of Wakanda's Wonder Metal: Vibranium.

Campaign Use: T'Challa has been long (too long?) overshadowed by other team members when on the Avengers and later the Fantastic Force. He's a first rate fighter, leader, and scientist. He's the King of his own country. He could easily sponsor a superteam.

Appearance: Athletic and lean, T'Challa cuts a dashing figure in the social circles. When fighting crime as the Black Panther he wears a black costume with gold trim and accessories.

Re: CHAR: Black Panther

Like Aquaman . T'challa got a crazy powerup so it may not be out of line but I'll always think of him and Cap as "peak human". Caps strength in the old marvel guide was almost a perfect champions 20 and that was just such a wonderful symetry to me. Enforcer makes super cool write ups but Stats tend to be a little high for my tastes. But then thats me the old guy.

Re: CHAR: Black Panther

Well, I'll admit Cap used to get a 25 (Hero lifting and Marvel lifting is different).

But then I went with the Champions "NCM/Legendary/Superhuman" chart. This gives me a bit of leeway between the Agent Types. Nightwing and Daredevil should be stronger than a Hydra agent.

Re: CHAR: Black Panther

I can see putting cap into the "legendary" range. So Hero lifting is different. It seems to mesh pretty perfectly at 20 for world records for weightlifting. I always figured "legendary" was just that greater than anyone in our mundane world. Tarzan, Conan, Doc Savage. To each his own. I still love your write-ups. Athena just showed up in my game and your interpetation was a tremendous success! Ares is busy working behind the scenes and the PCs know he's out there. What's so great is I can use then and not get called by the mythology geeks On A "Athena wouldn't act like that".My players also seem to really like the intergration with the Superhero/ sic fi world

Re: CHAR: Black Panther

Actually even give a limited pushing campaign it seems characters ST should be adjusted down 5 points to accomidate for pushing. Is hero lifting really that different?. It looks like a guy with 25 ST could throw 800 pounds 4" In that old timey marvel guide it said he could lift with "extreme effort" which sounds like pushing to me. Anyway you usually seem to have a really solid grasp of the characters you write up. Keep em' coming.

I see in another thead you referenced Ultimate brick. That explains while I couldn't find anything. Maybe I should pick that up as it seems like it pins down some of these questions better. About 1/2 would bump it up 5 points with out getting into the pushing issue.

Re: CHAR: Black Panther

I always got the impression that Panther was much more acrobatic than Cap, but I never saw him as displaying that level of strength. I haven't read any appearances in many, many years though. Panther used to be one of my faves as a kid. These days I see him as the actual half Panther from Earth-X.
