Lucius
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct How could I forget: Hero Games Discussion Boards Rules of Conduct RULES Although the majority of the rules listed below may seem obvious, it is important that EVERY rule be documented so that it can be referenced when the rule is broken. Rule One: Respect Others. Do NOT directly insult fellow board members or their family members or ANYTHING about them personally. It is fine to disagree but DO NOT attack other board members directly or personally. Do not threaten other board members. Disregard for this rule will result in serious disciplinary action. Rule Two: No cursing. Do NOT use blatant foul language. If board member reports your thread for foul language then you will be asked to change it. Refusal to change it will result in disciplinary action. NOTE: There is no longer a filter in place for post content -- no swearing means just that: no swearing. Not "no swearing that a content filter doesn't remove for you." Rule Three: Take your medicine. If you break these rules and are punished and try to circumvent the disciplinary action by creating new accounts or logging in from different locations then you will receive the highest level of disciplinary action and never be allowed on the Hero Games Discussion Boards ever again. Rule Four: Respect the Moderators. It is okay if you disagree with moderators and it's perfectly fine to discuss your grievances with the moderators publicly. If the moderator feels that your behavior is becoming inappropriate or disrespectful you will be asked to stop the improper behavior. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action. If you feel moderator is being disrespectful, report him or her to the other moderators on the board. Rule Infinity-and-One: All rules are subject to interpretation by the moderators and will be enforced on a case-by-case basis. DISCIPLINE All infractions will be dealt with via the forum software. You will receive an infraction notice (Private Message) whenever a moderator feels that you have violated the board rules. Each infraction adds a certain number of points onto your total (depending on the violation). These points will remain on your account for a fixed time from the point the infraction is assigned (again, the time varies based on the violation/infraction). If your account accrues too many points, the forum software will invoke disciplinary actions on your account, beginning with moderation of your posts and ending with banning your account from the forums altogether. If you feel a punishment is unfair you can plead your case with Dan Simon by emailing him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RE-INSTATEMENT Members can have their banned status removed by e-mailing Dan Simon and discussing the situation. There is no guarantee that the banned status will be removed, but this is the ONLY way to get ANY banned status lifted from your account. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THESE RULES ARE SUBJECT TO MODIFICATION v1.5 - July 19, 2006 Posting Guidelines Due to legal concerns, the following posting guidelines are now being enforced on this site: 1. Do not post any pictures containing sexual content of any kind. We realize that 'sexual content' can be a nebulous term, meaning slightly different things to different people. If you have any doubt at all whether a picture or link constitutes sexual content, err on the side of caution and don't post it. Anything deemed sexual content in the opinion of the moderators is subject to deletion, and our determination will not be subject to debate. 2.You must have legal rights to all content that you post. 3.Links to sites dedicated to sexual content are not allowed. 4.No swearing of any kind. 5. Do not post inflammatory material. Posting a topic which is controversial is fine, so long as the post is made in such a way as to promote healthy, rational debate. Posting a controversial topic in such a way as to simply incite others into a flamewar will be met with disciplinary action. If you have questions or concerns regarding this policy, please email or PM Dan Simon. Lucius Alexander Code of the Palindromedary

schir1964
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct [Disadvantage] Codes Of Conduct: Views/Beliefs that a character chooses to follow. [Disadvantage] Group Member: Character is a member of group which he is subject to for any violations of membership rules. Lucius
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct So' date=' how many points is "Devoted to Hero Games Discussion Boards Rules of Conduct" worth as a Disad?[/quote'] The Disadvantage is in NOT following the Rules of Conduct. Then you get Hunted: Hero Games Moderators 8- (As Powerful (more or less) NCI (Can get you banned) Limited Geographical Area (Only on Hero Boards) PC has a Public ID or is otherwise very easy to find (As long as you keep coming to Hero Games) Watching) 5 Lucius Alexander The palindromedary wonders if railroads have a code of conductors.... Well, yeah, if you kill somebody, the police will hunt you, too, but that doesn't mean you have a Code Against Killing. Lucius
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct Well' date=' yeah, if you kill somebody, the police will hunt you, too, but that doesn't mean you have a Code Against Killing. I'm talking about someone who actually devotes their life to living the Hero Games Forums Rules of Conduct.[/quote'] Well, if one "devotes their life" I'm assuming they follow the same principles everywhere, not just online. Rule One: Respect Others. Do NOT directly insult fellow board members or their family members or ANYTHING about them personally. It is fine to disagree but DO NOT attack other board members directly or personally. Do not threaten other board members. Such a person would 1. treat all people with respect 2. never insult anyone 3. never threaten 4. never initiate violence (although self defense or defense of others is possible.) Rule Two: No cursing. Do NOT use blatant foul language. Fairly Obvious..... Rule Three: Take your medicine. For most adventuring types, this degree of respect and cooperation for authority would be extreme - it would mean never fleeing the police, offering full cooperation and complete honesty at all times, turning oneself in if wanted on any chargest whatsoever....it is these clauses that, if logically extrapolated to "actually devotes their life" that make such a Limitation vanishingly unlikely for any player character. And possibly crippling if taken.... 1. Carrying this over, I think it would mean modest dress and not possessing or displaying any erotica - at least, not in public. Possibly among consenting adults anything goes. 2.You must have legal rights to all content that you post. No plagiarism. So besides not insulting or threatening anyone or initiating violence, this forbids inciting violence or even starting an argument. All told, this should be up to a 25 pt Disadvantage if it's a Total Commitment. I would say at minimum it's worth 15 pts. But such a character would make a great neighbor. Captain Obvious
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct I think Dan Simon would get tired of all the emails complaining about the neighbor's dog, though. Lucius
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct Common Sense is a perk' date=' nowadays...[/quote'] In GURPS, Common Sense is the equivalent to a Talent, like Danger Sense is in Hero. Korvar
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct What are the game effects of Common Sense in GURPS? Lucius
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct If I remember correctly' date=' the GM occasionally tells you if you're about to do something stupid.[/quote'] Pretty much. I think there was an INT roll attached. It seemed the sort of thing that would be helpful if an impulsive player were playing a more thoughtful character, or if the gameworld is different enough that the players may not know what's common sense to the characters. Of course, if the player says "I shoot the guide in the back!" and the Game Operations Director makes them roll Common Sense and then asks "Are you sure that's what you want to do?" the player can still always say "Yes." In Hero terms I think it would be built as a Detect, something like Danger Sense. Or Sense of Humor, which someone has already written up on these boards somewhere. Guest Worldmaker
Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct It occurs to me that the following qualifies. The first rule of fight club is you do not talk about fight club. The second rule of fight club is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB. Third rule of Fight Club: if someone says "stop" or goes limp or taps out, the fight is over. Fourth rule: Only two guys to a fight. Fifth Rule: One fight at a time, fellas. Sixth Rule: No shirts, no shoes. Seventh Rule: Fights will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule of Fight Club: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
