Hermit
Over the city/town your character calls home (or if your character doesn't live near any towns, then the closest one to it) a meteor shower, dubbed the Prometheus Shower (and soon that will turn to be a prophetic name) comes down. Astronomers are baffled when it holds together in an unusually tight packet before finally breaking up over a localized area (A mere 30 mile radius) when its exterior shell FINALLY burns up. The remainder appears to be a form of Kelvarite, that mysterious substance often noted for ties to superpowered origins. As the meteor ash sprinkles across the area below, fully 25% of the populace in that area gains super powers, chiefly high strength, high durability, and a movement power of some sort. About one out of five of those so empowered are at least as powerful as starting superheroes (350 points). It might be the largest instantaneous externally influenced mutation in humanity's known history. Chaos may ensue, or progress, or both. What Would Your Character Do? And, for that matter, how do you think the populace your character routinely protects would deal with it overall? Possible Complication #1- If your character is in the area, and unshielded by tech or powers, may end gaining either a power boost or new powers added on entirely! Possible Complication #2- If your PC or some NPC tried to destroy the meteor before it could land by using some form of energy, it may react with the Kelvarite and change the nature of the powers being granted to others. OctoberRaven
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) Mister Nonsense: Welcome Stan's new uprising of new good heroes for justice! But we don't want the trashcans getting superpowers. Better round em all up just to be safe. Shift (Who after leaving the group went back to Hudson City): ...Last thing this town needs is guys like Siddhartha having powers. Better call in some backup to try and... I don't know, divert the comet to somewhere not populated with homicidal gansters? If that can't be helped well... looks like I'll need to bring a bandolier of ammo or two. Emerald Dragon: Call Dr. Silverback! It's like in Asteroid of Doom Collides! one of my few non-kung-fu movies. The think tank's going to need to be worked in full force... and maybe get some mystics to help (as the PCs in my game are based in Vibora Bay). McCoy
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) Millennium will hit the airwaves, announcing what may happen, offering help with controling any new abilities, and expressing a hope that everyone would use their new abilities for the good of humanity. Cheeta and Iron Will will try to gather as much of the stuff as possible "to keep it out of the wrong hands." Snow Leopard will patrol, looking for new metahuman activies, trying to help the good guys and take down the bad guys before they get too much control. Dolphin "What part of 'Marine Biologist' is unclear to you? If there's property damage and you need someone who can lift a locomotive for Search and Rescue, I'm happy to help. But metorites and metagenic radiation are way out of my field."
FenrisUlf
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) FenrisUlf: probably put in a call to Doc Silverback or that new outfit in the Champs Universe update. Sorry, but he's more of a 'mystic defender', and this is somewhat out of his area of expertise. That and he's already got enough trouble with Hagalaz, Wallbanger, and Foxy Lady to keep himself busy. Worldwalker: considering that he got his powers from Kelvarite, he'll get involved somehow, even if it's only helping to teach people (especially attractive ladies) how to use their new powers and what to avoid. ("Drains and Kelvarite re-exposure are murder, literally. Avoid 'em and you'll live longer.") Scarlet Shield II: She's Detroit's version of American Dream(from A-Next), so she'd almost certainly follow in her inspiration's footsteps by trying to convince as many of the new metas as she she can to become heroes and work for justice. Of course, she spends a lot of her time doing the same with unpowered Detroit kids, so at least there will already be some sort of framework in place for her efforts. Hilal: In her heroic identity (which everyone thinks is male), probably support SS and Worldwalker in their efforts. In her private identity, engage in the usual charitable efforts as a good citizen and Muslim with about $200 million in the bank should. jkwleisemann
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) Void: Probably end up getting his energy absorption powers boosted sky-high, if he didn't know it was coming. Beyond that... dandy. The superhuman population just skyrocketed. It's a good thing he isn't dating anymore, or this would wreak havoc on his social life. Put Huntress and Darkchild on figuring out a solution, and the rest of the team on slowing down the new influx of supers. Scarface, on the other hand... this could get interesting in a bad way *real* fast. Gonna have to think about that one.
Comic
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) HighGuard: "A hero is a hero regardless of the power of the opposition, or of those the hero serves. Know HighGuard's protection is there for you, whether you can lift five ounces or five megatons." Oh, and grabbing up as much of that Kelvarite stuff as he can lay his hands on, while recruiting True Believers.
lemming
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) Spitfire: Knows a thing or two about genetic mutation, plus being rather strong and tough. She'd try to help out those that wanted help.
jkwleisemann
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) Having put some of the aforementioned thought into it: Scarface: Is now a very, very, *very* scary person. Not only does he have firearms (and a willingness to use them), but he's probably developed (along with most everybody else in the Underground) superpowers. Given his general attitude and appearance... probably related to meta-Presence. He's already a terrifying individual known to drive people to jump off of high-rise buildings just to get away from him. Putting full-fledged superpowers behind that would only get nastier. And his bodycount wouldn't get any lower either. His bullets might not work on people as well, but with enhanced strength and durability and his surgical knowledge, he'd probably just shift to more of a Martial Artist than a Gun Bunny. A martial artist specializing in Kelvarite-laced scalpels. Yeah... that could get *really* ugly. "What If Venom merged with The Punisher" ugly. Drhoz
Re: WWYCD: The Prometheus Meteorshower (Kelvarite) Vitus : Kelvarite fallout over Nebraska. Just effing brilliant. I bet the movement powers will somehow relate to the whopping great dimensional anomaly set in around and under Kingdom City. *migraine ensues* Is Kelvarite a crystalline form of raw theoplasm? That would certainly explain a lot. As to the result - encourage the formation of a United Space Exploration League, to get the newly superpowered as far from the planet as possible. As for himself, he has no particular protection against mutagens, so he'll probably be loooking at a 'Radiation Accident'. And a rather more extreme change than the Aurastorms of his homeworld have caused him in the past.
