  1. Re: WWYC Team Up With? I'm going to omit the 2, 4, and 6 from here, for simplicity sake and I dont usually pay attention to the alternate universes anyway (although it would have been nice if Civil War wasn't 616...) Mr. Nonsense: Plastic Man, Howard The Duck, Captain Chronos. Threat: Time/dimensional travel or just plain WEIRD villain. Shift: Batman, Daredevil, Nighthawk. Threat: Hero killer/Rogue vigilante gone too far/Anything involving Hudson City Emerald Dragon: Black Canary, Spider-Man, Defender Threat: If it's not involving PSI or demons, it's up his alley. October Raven: Dr. Fate, Dr. Strange, Magnum Mage Threat: Mystical, possibly DEMON or tracking some obscure magic. Tetsuhana: Oracle, Wolverine, Diamond Threat: Street level crime, possibly martial arts based.
  2. Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted... Mr. Nonsense: Would barely even notice, and even if he did, he'd still go about heroin'. Shift: "Oh, so basically, I'm back in Hudson. Got it." Emerald Dragon: "I quit. Seriously. I may have called a demon prince a wuss once, but even I have a limit to how suicidal I'll get. Besides, Universal is looking for someone to play Dr. Destroyer. Having met the guy, I can pull it off." October Raven: See if there's a magical reason for this, and if so, use magic to change things back. Failing that, he'd keep on heroing. Tetsuhana: Wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that he's a husband first. He'd take the MMA route. As he's essentially a very VERY well trained normal, he'd probably be on top of the UFC within a year.
  3. Re: Your FIRST Super Hero Character I'd do a write-up for 16-Ton Man, sure. Might need to give him more than the standard points to reflect how broken and cheesy he was though. EDIT- Also, my first superhero RPG character... TT, it's Mr. Nonsense, who basically had a variety of bizarre powers, such as an indirect EB that could take the form of just about any object he could think of (such as a "Stop! You Idiot!" sign), teleportation, limited passive danger sense, the ability to 'rewind' and 'fast forward' time (basically looking over events in the past and future), as well as the ability to seemingly summon any foodstuff from his jacket (this isn't actually how his power worked, but it looked like that's what he was doing). He was also the embodiment of insanity, wearing bizarre clothing (once described as looking like a "Clown Pimp") and doing things that would make Deadpool say "man, that dude's nuts." In City of Heroes, it was The BDSM Avenger, who essentially looked like a Dominatrix. Besides her name (which was never changed by the mods!) and outfit there was nothing racy about her (her quips were nothing more suggestive than "Time for some punishment!" and "You can't hit harder than that?"). She was basically a Bat-hero power-wise, having no actual powers just being very very good at fighting and taking a hit (SS/Invuln tank).
  4. Re: Loved at home hated by the world. Mr. Nonsense: Possibly N/A, because he has a limited passive sense of the future and would be able to use his indirect EB to prevent such a disaster. Would have no idea how to react either, and would probably be committed. Shift: Might be N/A as he can 'tele-stretch'. If it does happen, would lose sleep over it, and would drop off the radar because he's got more important things to do than face a biased court. IF forced to testify (assuming he can be FOUND): "Paper (former group's leader) murdered about a hundred people, including PRIMUS agents, in one fell swoop in Uganda. And you're fixated on one accidental death. B.S." Emerald Dragon: Would also lose sleep, would consider retiring but PRIMUS knows his secret ID so if they wanted to find him they would, so would probably be forced to testify. Good news is, he can afford a very good lawyer. October Raven: N/A. His attack of choice is an NND STUN Drain based on EGO and has a CVK. So this would essentially never happen. Tetsuhana: Being a martial artist who uses nerve strikes and NND throws, there MIGHT be a casualty if he uses his Bullseye-esque object of oppurtunity EB. If this happens, he'll be wary of the courts. He would ONLY agree to stand trial if he was allowed to keep his identity a secret.
  5. Re: WWYCD: You have 24 hours to release the innocent. Mr. Nonsense: Use his time powers to see who actually is innocent and who isn't. Let them go and protect the real criminals. Shift: Would be really tempted to use lethal force to prevent the jailbreak, but would instead keep guard as much as he can. Emerald Dragon: Same as Shift minus the lethal force. October Raven: Use clairvoyance to determine who was responsible for these threats and deal with them immediately. Tetsuhana: Can do little but guard the prison. He can go a year without needing to eat or sleep, so he can do that very very vigilantly.
  6. Re: Champions Babies Not the baby: Mr. Nonsense: Tell the tots a bedtime story about the evil trash cans... Shift: Hopes this is temporary and gets them to a daycare. Emerald Dragon: "...Please, PLEASE tell me we're in an alternate dimension again and this isn't real!" October Raven: Can probably magically reverse it. Tetsuhana: Leave them with his wife. Being the baby: Mr. Nonsense: Mr. Nonsense is the very embodiment of chaos and insanity. Give him an infantile mindset... hoo boy. Shift: Interesting... he can still teleport, and now that he remembers he can do it, anyone who is keeping him will have a hard time doing so. Emerald Dragon: Hope they get this fixed soon. October Raven: Was a pretty intelligent child, so he might be able to use his magic to fix himself. Tetsuhana: See Emerald Dragon
  7. Re: How would Stronghold imprison your character? Mr.Nonsense: All you really have to do is have trash cans just outside his cell. He will be happy to stay inside so they can't get to him. Shift: Take his gun and make his cell teleport-proof. Emerald Dragon: Really good ED should do the trick. October Raven: You'd essentially need an anti-magic field. Tetsuhana: He's actually just a really, really well-trained normal. A regular cell should be fine.
  8. Re: Your FIRST Super Hero Character I can't remember. There were so many, and they were all so so cheesy. If I had to guess I'd say The 16-Ton Man, c1992. Basically, he was all but impervious to conventional weaponry, able to lift 16 tons with minimal effort (hence his name), and when he covered himself in his cape he could withstand a 20 megaton nuclear bomb without a scratch. However, he ultimately lost to his greatest foe, literacy.
  9. Re: WWYCD "super" registration Mr. Nonsense: Oooh! Well, my name is Mr. Nonsense. Yes, that is my real name. I think. Would you like a cheeseburger, Mr. Senator? (He wouldn't be able to divulge his real name, as part of his origin involves him having no memory of his previous life). Shift: ...Registration, huh? Good for you. I'm moving to Canada. Emerald Dragon: Well, I guess it's a good idea. I'll go along with it. Heck, it might give me a chance to go back to movies. October Raven: I'd prefer not to register, and I'll vote against any measure put on a ballot. But if it passes, I'll be the first to register. Tetsuhana: Get a lawyer to see if he applies (highly-trained normal martial artist) as a superhuman. If he does, see if this registration act will allow for protection for families of superhumans. If it doesn't, time to move back to Japan. If it does, he'll register. Funny. I was pro-Cap for the Civil War, and three of my characters would register without complaint, four if you count Tets
  10. Re: WWYCD: Dead before your time... Mr. Nonsense: Oh, Stan, you crazy funster! *replays the battle he 'died' in* Hm. Okay, this time, I'll lean to the left. Shift: First: Get a new set of kevlar and a new trenchcoat. Then: get more ammo. After that: Get ready. This time, it's the villain's turn to die. Emerald Dragon: I...hate...almost...dying. Well, time to figure out what happened to everyone else... and where's my bike? October Raven: First, he'd magically mend his 'costume' (which, like Shift, was just street clothes). Spend as much time as he can praying for his friends, then focus on the big baddie. The Gods must have sent him back for a reason... maybe he had to die for the city again. Tetsuhana: Call my wife, repair my costume, get ready to face the big bad guy. Get a sword and knives as a lethal battle is expected.
  11. Re: Does your character keep a journal? I did for Mister Nonsense, and IIRC Shift had one as well, although it was more memoirs than an actual journal. Lost them both, though.
  12. Re: WWYCD: The New Recruit. . . Mr. Nonsense- N/A, no CVK. He would call him a mean man though. Shift- No CVK, but he'd take DA's side. "Kid, don't worry about them. They don't understand that sometimes you have to do what needs to be done. Just remember that there's a fine line between killing to save lives and being a murderer. And if you cross that line, kid, I'll be the first one to go after you." Emerald Dragon- Also no CVK. October Raven- "You do what you feel is necessary, and I respect that. But I cannot allow you to be an arbiter over who lives and dies". Tetsuhana- No CVK, but won't use lethal force on someone not using lethal force. So he would have no problem with Dark Avenger, but will keep an eye on him.
  13. Re: [Project] Death Note Well another thing about the Shinigami Eyes is that you also see their lifespan, but this is mostly incomprehensible to most people. HOWEVER! If they don't have any lifespan, they're actually have used the Death Note (or is using it now).
  14. Re: Wwycd Oops! Mr. Nonsense: Have a bobblehead doll! Everyone loves bobblehead dolls! And by the way, if you take a swing, you'll miss horribly. I know. Shift: Take him under my wing. Mold his anger into a positive. Emerald Dragon: Kid, you got your whole life ahead of you. Don't screw it up by being a bad guy. Trust me, you'll regret it. October Raven: Show him what his life will be like if he becomes a villain, show him what his life will be like if he stays a hero. Let him choose. Tetsuhana: No good comes from thinking irrationally. Calm yourself down, pay respects to your fallen friends.
  15. Re: WWYCD: The Nightmare on Hero Street Mister Nonsense: Oooh! Look, a fashionable scarf! Shift: Huh. Maybe I do have a drinking problem. Emerald Dragon: Let's see... what did the people in that movie do... that's right, they got an Oldsmobile and a bunch of hi-tech super soakers... wait... no, that's Ghostbusters. October Raven: Pull him out with the bricks nearby. Tetsuhana: Get a monk to purifiy the entire building.
  16. Re: [Project] Death Note Granted, the Death Note is in of itself insanely unbalanced, especially with the Eyes. This was more of a 'how would Light/Misa/L/Ryuk/the others translate to HERO' project, not intended for actual campaign use. Here's a decidedly less powerful but also much more balanced version of the Death Note, still powerful, but not impossible to defeat. The Death Note: Killing Attack - Ranged 4d6, Invisible to Sight Group, Source Only (+1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Indirect (Any origin, any direction; +3/4), Attack Versus Limited Defense (Power Defense; +3/4), Based On EGO Combat Value (+1), Does BODY (+1) (315 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Turn (Post-Segment 12), Only to Activate, -3/4), IAF (The Death Note or a piece of paper from it.; -1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Conditional Power Power does not work if you write the target's name down incorrectly (-1/4) Real Cost: 97 And a more balanced version of the Shinigami Eyes: Shinigami Eyes: Telepathy 10d6 (Human class of minds), Reduced Endurance (1/2 END; +1/4) (62 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses about half of its effectiveness (Only to find the subject's true name; -1), Extra Time (Extra Segment, Character May Take No Other Actions, -3/4), Sense Affected As More Than One Sense [sight] (-1/2) Real Cost: 19, END = 2
  17. I've been working on making builds for characters in the anime Death Note and a couple major things were stumping me... How does one create the two major supernatural items, the Death Note, and the Shinigami Eyes? Now, obviously to create the Note's ability to kill anyone in the world, one has to create a special advantage, Does Not Require Line of Sight(+1). So how many points does a book that can kill anyone in the world in almost any way you can think of? I came up with this: The Death Note: Killing Attack - Ranged 10d6, Time Delay (+1/4), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Invisible Power Effects, Source Only (Fully Invisible; +1/2), Indirect (Any origin, any direction; +3/4), Based On EGO Combat Value (Mental Defense applies; +1), No Normal Defense ([Defense is not having your true name written in the Death Note]; +1), Does BODY (+1), Does not require Line of Sight (+1) (1125 Active Points); Extra Time (40 Seconds, Only to Activate, -3/4), IAF (The Death Note or a piece of paper from it.; -1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4) Real Cost: 409 The Shinigami Eyes have had a similar problem with range, so I added an advantage as well: Can Target Someone Via Image, also a +1. Shinigami Eyes: Telepathy 10d6 (Human class of minds), Reduced Endurance (1/2 END; +1/4), No Normal Defense ([Defense is lack of a soul]; +1), Can target someone via an image (+1) (162 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses about half of its effectiveness (Only to find the subject's true name; -1), Sense Affected As More Than One Sense [sight] (-1/2) Real Cost: 65 So, assuming your GM will let you spend 474 XP, you can kill just about anyone you can get a picture of. I'm using Equipment rules for the builds (granted, abusive, but it makes sense) so it's not like Real Cost is a big deal. Thoughts?
  18. A hypothetical character based on the events of the Champions campaign I'm playing in. Unbeknownst to most, the superteam then known as the Protectors were cloned by VIPER against their knowledge. While the remnants of the group and UNTIL believe they know of all the clones, there was one that never came to light, the clone of the teleporting vigilante known as Shift. Shift's clone, dubbed 'Venom' by his creators, was originally intended to kill Shift and infiltrate the Protectors to assasinate them. This fell through when Shift abrubtly quit the Protectors and fell off the radar. Venom was still used as a strike soldier, but for some reason the VIPER propaganda burned into the other clones from their creation didn't quite sink in to him. Eventually he saw the evil VIPER was doing, and abandoned the group. A year later, a VIPER nest was raided by a single person who killed everyone inside. All that was left as evidence of who was responsible was a note: "Courtesy of the Snake Hunter." Then a new teleporting vigilante appeared, who, like Shift, had a custom-made weapon. All that the public knows is that's it's probably not Shift, as the gun seems to have no nonlethal capabilities, not to mention that while Shift wore a trenchcoat to conceal the weapon, this vigilante simply keeps it holstered. He called himself Snake Hunter. Note: The campaign's character creation rules were 300+50, so this is how Snake Hunter is also built. 19. Re: Random Pondering: Istvatha V'han IIRC it is an exaggeration. The actual number is around 100 million I think. Anyways, interesting theory, and makes a lot of sense. I wonder how many Queen V'hans has a Foxbat as a court jester.
  20. Re: [Pet Project] Persona HERO As I've been playing Revelations lately, I think this is pretty awesome. If you plan to do a Persona HERO game via PBP or IRC, let me know.
  21. Re: Vehicle Disads? How about Susceptibility to Electro-magnetic pulses?
  22. Re: WWYCD: A Damsel Who Doesn't Want To Be Rescued... Mr. Nonsense: Really? You like it here? *to the warlord* What's your benefits package like? Shift: *shrug* Suit yourself. Emerald Dragon: Well that's anticlimatic. *sigh* By the way, dude... your guards SUCK. October Raven: Try to figure out if she's being mind controlled. If not, well, it's her choice. If so, we're saving her. My next, currently unnamed character: * to group* Next time, can we make sure the person we're saving wants to be saved?
  23. Re: WWYCD The aliens are here Mister Nonsense: We need a single weapon that can fire only one laser blast a time, and it can only move left to right. Leave the rest to me, my 2 liter bottle of Shasta, and my all-Rush mix tape! Shift: Lucky for me, my weapon is anything but normal tech. And there's two more like it. Give em to two people I trust and let's get down to business. Emerald Dragon: Dude, this is just like that movie. You know the one I'm talking about. Columbus Day. Oh, but we don't have airplanes, do we? Hm. October Raven: Interesting. Should we trust Doctor Destroyer? I think we can, after all, what good is the world to him if it's dead.
  24. Re: [WIYCT] Icons Mister Nonsense: Iconic of being very, very weird. Shift: The somewhat pessimistic vigilante (though without the same killing tendencies as most vigs). Emerald Dragon: The wisecracking super-agile hero. October Raven: The mystic.
  25. Re: Casting "Champions Universe: The Motion Picture" Actually, now that I think about it, Bulldozer is a lot like Bill Goldberg. Even down to the egotism and love of motorcycles. I'd buy Goldberg as Dozer. Also, Thomas Jane for Gigaton.
