Shared Mental Illusions

I need some help for a friend in my group that’s having trouble writing up a power. His character is completely paralyzed mentalist, kept alive by a combination of his own psionic power and an advanced life support system (basically a high tech iron lung). What he wants to do is create a shared Mental Illusion. That is, he and other participants will share the experience (he’ll have a normal body, senses, etc). Mainly it’s so he can actually interact with his fiancée (and at least virtually consummate their marriage). Can this be done with unmodified Mental Illusions or does it take modifiers?

Off topic: Wow, there's been allot of bells and whistles added since the last time I was here.

Re: Shared Mental Illusions

There's probably a couple of ways you could go with this. One would be Mental Illusions, probably Area Effect. I think a normal Mental Illusions would be fine (all the targets in the area are sharing the same illusion).

Another option might be to use some variation on Extra-Dimensional Movement, built around the idea that he's taking people to a sort of "virtual reality."

That’s how I did it for a PC mentalist. So far it’s worked pretty well. There are some technical, pedantic issues with it but nothing that can’t be handwaved. It actually worked a little better than Mental Illusions since it didn't require such a huge effect roll (+30) since with Hero mental powers you can't technically lower your Ego/ECV or forego your Breakout roll.

Might want that Mental Illusion to be Selective Area (or maybe only vs Mind linked targets so no one can be dragged in against the power user's will or against their own will), unless you want anyone who happens to be in the area to end up in that virtual reality (and details of your virtual life in the National Enquirer and on the Internet ).

Actually' date=' it just occurred to me that -- if you go the Mental Illusions route -- you'd probably want to include Mind Link for the group as well, so everyone can communicate. The Mental Illusions can provide the setting, but you'd need Mind Link for the "content." :)[/quote']

Goggles AND headphones. ;)
