Cardinal
Re: What Book Should I Buy Next? Hmm' date=' interesting. I never knew about 3rd-party HERO products until now. Are there any links to sites that compile all the 3rd-party products?[/quote'] The only 3rd party company that I have had experience with is Blackwyrm Games. They produce a range of supplements for Hero and MNM, including Gestalt which I mentioned earlier. If you are interested in learning more, check out their website or ping Dave Mattingly from these boards. He is the president of Blackwyrm. If you are looking for non-hero resources, I have two to recommend. First, Gestalt, as mentioned earlier. Interesting back story, good art, deep history... all in all, lots of goodness. The second that I would recommend is Freedom City for MNM. The book is stated for MNM, but it should be pretty easy to transfer back to Hero. In fact, the author posted his original notes from when he was planning on doing it in Hero (4e). I am sure if you do a search on the site you could find them. I am playing in a PBEM in Freedom City using the Hero System. I found the book to be extremely well done. It has a great Silver Age vibe (much happier than gestalt), with tons of well done homage characters to the typical array of comic book characters: Joker, Batman, Superman, Shazam, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, New Gods, etc. I found it impossible to read without getting inspired. I ended up doing a legacy character to Captain Thunder, an homage of Green Lantern's personality grafted onto Shazam's powerset. Lots of goodness. That is not to suggest I haven't enjoyed the Hero products as well. You just seemed to be asking about non-hero options. Cheers.
Cardinal
Re: What Book Should I Buy Next? Thanks Cardinal. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the book. Not to derail this thread into a Bennie Appreciation Fest, but I must say that one of my particular favorite aspects of the book is when you break down how various items worked in your campaign. It did a lot to (a) provide some ideas, ( make me appreciate you as a GM and © reinforce the organic feel of the world.

Are there any links to sites that compile all the 3rd-party products?[/quote'] I recommend Derek Hiemforth's online list of all HERO System books, going back to the debut of Champions: http://rhinobunny.com/derek/hero/herogameslist.html Essentially everything after "Iron Crown Enterprises" (which used to be the publisher of Hero games) is third party, although the "Hero Plus" electronic books listed at the end mixes them a bit.
